Typically the Swedish artists that sing in Swedish don’t break out of Scandinavia and it’s not really their goal to ”make it” globally, they cater to the Swedish market. Some on the list has started out singing in English (ex. Molly Sandén, Danny Saucedo, Miriam Bryant) and they start of as ”typical” pop stars who want to make it globally but then decide that it’s not worth it and so they switch to Swedish. Then there are other artists such as September/Petra Marklund, Per Gessle(gyllene tider) who was part of Roxette, - Who rebrand themselves when they sing in swedish for the Swedish market and English for the more global stage. Those who partake in Melfest isn’t typically Swedens top musicians and while it’s a great platform for artists it can become difficult to break away from the Melfest association after and be taken ”more seriously”. For many of the artists on this list it would be a sign of their careers decline if they appeared on Melfest(as the appearance of already established artists comes of as an attempt to ”poach” new listeners and gain some easy traction) and not winning would be a massive blow.
