- Russian forces have launched a major military assault in Ukraine, with reports of explosions near major cities across the country.
In a pre-dawn TV statement Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia did not plan to occupy Ukraine, but said Moscow's response would be "instant" if anyone tries to stop this.
Shortly afterwards, reports began of attacks on Ukraine's military targets. Ukraine said that "Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine".

Breaks my heart to think there's an identical family to my own, with their own little 2-3 year old, who's looking at their mum and dad terrified of the sirens and the chaos around them. Wrong. The darkest day in Europe is December 25 1991. The collapse of the USSR brought the post soviet states to ruin. It destabilized the continent, over hundreds of thousands died due to the conflicts that followed it's fall. Eastern europe took two decades to fully recover from the catastrophe but some never did like ukraine, moldova and russia (belarus maintained a palatable quality of life)

It is sad that the aggression by Russia against Ukraine we have been waiting for has unfortunately begun today. My prayers are with the people of Ukraine. As a Somali, I know what damage war can do to any country or people but, I hope this bad situation comes to an end sooner,so Ukraine can and should live in peace.
The biggest tragedy is that the Americans knew the invasion was coming and abandoned us Ukrainians, refusing to send soldiers to fight with us, and doing nothing to evacuate the hundreds of thousands of civilians women and children from evacuating to the US. This was censored from most American or US-owned media companies.
They created and triggered this mess in Ukraine, the least they could do was help the people of Ukraine now that it has come to war as a result.

Most governments in the world are terrified of losing territory (money, votes and power, really) to independence movements (this includes Russia, the US, Ukraine, most European nations, etc.).
They won't take the side of independence fighters unless it suits their own interests.

As a Russian I could not be scared and angry more right now… I have Ukrainian friends and relatives and this is the last thing everyone wants. All 99% people I know in Moscow are against the thief and murderer who took the government by force. It’s sad to see how this affects normal Russians with our reputation just going down the bin. I wish all Ukrainians to stay strong and I pray for this to over with no harm. From my side I do promise you to go on streets of Moscow and protest. However, western people need to understand that elections and protests in Moscow are far from what they should be. You can find tons of video on how Putin elections were fabricated. Of course I am not saying that there were no people who did vote putin but this „people“ died ages ago in his propaganda and they are a minority. Why is it hard to protest with majority than? Watch some info on Moscow protests after Navalny poisoning. People were beaten up, fined and sent to prison for years just for throwing plastic glass at the guard. Who wants to go to a prison for 5 years? Russia is like one right now :-(
