I respect that so much more than if he was to talk about how he wants to dominate the internet. Tumblr seems much more concerned with its own identity than it does with appealing to absolutely everyone possible, and I think that attitude will make it much more sustainable than other social media sites (just look at Myspace for example).
It was such a simple idea, just a blog where you can post anything, but nothing like it existed at the time, like how did no one create something like that before Karp

It needs this type of mission and vision again. So many of the creatives have left tumblr, because it has lost some of the magic and spark that made it such a great place. The fact that Tumblr prioritized all of the browsing to happen inside the dash and makes you click multiple times to view someone's blog means that, effectively, most tumbleblogs appear only different from one another cosmetically... like Twitter accounts appear only different by the header, colors, etc. Tumblr blogs are now the same way when viewed through the dashboard...
