    4:29. The confirm that Vivaldi's "La Primavera" was a hit for a lot af time, despite the daring events suffered by Vivaldi’s scores over the centuries.

      @Divergent Integral "most of Vivaldi's scores survived" I wish to to live in your timeline, where most of Vivaldi scores survived. In mine timeline, sadly, most of Vivaldi's operas are lost :(

      Exactly. Most fine music aficionados only know Mozart's 'Laudate Dominum'. It's an added delight to know that Corrette used Vivaldi's 'Spring' from the 'Four Seasons' for his inspiration.

    Very cool to hear a well-tread piece be recontextualized. Makes it very engaging. This also exhibits the French knack for harmony the way he’s able to carve out so many additional voices that don’t trip over the originals of Vivaldi’s. Super neat.

    Wonderful piece! Thanks for posting. I did a double-take when I recognized the tune, but then I looked at the title and saw "apres... Vivaldi."

      "old fashioned" is a highly overrated term these days. It also stigmatizes. No need for that. Corrette was an excellent craftsman, his brilliant arrangement of Vivaldi's primavera gives ample proof of that assertion.

    If this really is written in 1770 it was extremely old fashioned and out of date. The style would fit better for Bach or Händel 40-50 years earlier.

    • @bartjebartmans
      @bartjebartmans  2 роки тому +4

      Corrette worked for conservative churches. His style made him good money. Composers needed to survive like everybody else, and he knew how to. That his style was out of vogue by 1770 is a no brainer. But, time periods aside, he was an excellent composer and arranger. That should suffice.

    • @olavtryggvason1194
      @olavtryggvason1194 2 роки тому

      @@bartjebartmans I have no intention to question Correttes musical skills. I just compared in mind what Haydn and the only 14 year old Mozart did at the same time. Quite a number of their works were also produced for the catholic service. Mozarts employer was archbishop.

    • @bartjebartmans
      @bartjebartmans  2 роки тому +2

      Not sure what Corrette has to do with Mozart and Haydn. He lived in totally different country and circumstances.

    • @olavtryggvason1194
      @olavtryggvason1194 2 роки тому

      @@bartjebartmans Of course, but the development of new styles crossed the borderlines also at that time, often surprisingly quickly in spite of the slow communications in old times.

    • @olavtryggvason1194
      @olavtryggvason1194 2 роки тому

      @@bartjebartmans But you can compare to the contemporary composer Johann Schobert, living in Paris 1761-1767. His style was much more modern than Correttes, and he also influenced Mozart.
