    I'd be interested in checking this out eventually, although I'm a big fan of the Elgato 4K60S+ since it records right on to an SD card so you can record anywhere without a PC, and their 4K 60 Pro that goes into the motherboard has been great too

    I finally got mine. It is very nice how well it works and having the 120 hz pass-through is SOOO good for letting me still play on my nice TV, while streaming. There is an issue with audio desync in OBS if you leave it default, but if you add a new scene for the audio and in-line the HDMI that way, it'll work.

    But how's it work with old consoles and 240p signals?

    Very important: This capture card does NOT support Dolby Vision, meaning Xbox Series consoles aren't fully supported, and AverMedia has not announced any plans to add DV support. People should know this before they drop $300 on it. EDIT - 48Gbps is possible, but you MUST manually set the capture card's refresh rate to 120Hz+ in Windows' Advanced Graphics settings.
    Still an awesome first-gen HDMI 2.1 capture card, and hopefully they improve this in the second generation.

    I get it that it's the first to support HDMI 2.1 pass-through. However, I find this product disappointing for 2 reasons...
    1. HDMI 2.1 specifications allows for 4k resolution at a maximum fps of 120hz/fps. The fact that it only captures at 4k 60hz/fps is very disappointing since it is only half the fps of what HDMI 2.1 allows.
    2. The fact that it only captures at 4k 60hz/fps is also disappointing because I have been able to capture that for years now from my "AVerMedia Live Gamer 4k" pcie capture card. Sure, it is only HDMI 2.0 pass-through, but I am still fully able to capture the latest videogame consoles at the same 4k 60hz/fps. So I don't really see much of an improvement here if you only care about the capture quality.
    Anyhow, that's my 2 cents.

    Not gonna lie, I've been using their Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus for my PC-free recording and streaming and I'm pretty impressed with their stuff. Might have to consider this once I build a PC!

    I've been using the Elgato 4K60S+ and that... was a nightmare that I was very disappointed in when I was using it with my PC. Now I have it in my living room, using its standalone mode that writes to SD card, its thoroughly impressing me.

    Can it really be called "real next-gen console support" if it can't actually record at 4K/120? Or VRR?

    • @mrshmuga9
      @mrshmuga9 11 місяців тому

      Yeah… it’s nothing new than what’s been on the market for years, at least as far as recording goes. And if you’re gonna get a plug-and-play version, it might as well have an SD card slot to record directly to as well. Otherwise, there’s no value in it being portable. Just use a PCIE capture card for your pc instead. Because if you’re recording 4k footage anyway, your computer is gonna have to be halfway decent to edit, which will be enough to use/power an internal capture card anyway. A higher pass through is irrelevant. Just play while watching the game through the native input instead of after it’s fed through a secondary device.

    I'm still using an absolutely ancient Hauppauge PVR2. It's still going strong, and it's certainly been good enough for my game recording, but I've been wondering for a while if I ought to upgrade. This one is a *bit* pricey for me, but the features are certainly tempting.

    • @mrshmuga9
      @mrshmuga9 11 місяців тому

      4k60fps capture has been available for years. If you’re tempted, just look at all the other options. They’re probably cheaper or have sales. I had a Hauppauge PVR 2, and while I miss having a physical record button and light telling me when it starts/stops, it’s much nicer having a PCIE card. Having another object in the way for basically no benefit was just irritating and pointless. It’s only worth it if it’s actually portable, as in it has the option to record directly to an SD card. But if you don’t plan on capturing footage at events or anywhere away from your computer, just go for an internal card.

    Hello, do you know if having this capture card will solve problem with obs stutter. I just have one pc and 4k tv with 120hz and vrr but my games runs at 90-100fps so when i record video on obs it makes video stuttering because of out of sync frames, but when i cap my games to 60fps I don't have video stutter anymore... I heard its VRR problem with obs...I want smooth video and want to play on more than 60fps but my videos to be 60 fps What should i do? How you manage to record 120 fps games without stutter? Thanks a lot in advance!

    I use an Atmos Ninja V for capturing console gameplay. It's technically for recording from cameras, but it works absolutely beautifully for capturing gameplay, and it records directly to a desktop SSD. Doesn't work for streaming, but for general gameplay recording I think it's the best option. No software needed at all.

      Ninja's are incredible! My partner uses them for her job and it's incredibly useful to capture in 4K whilst seeing what you're doing.

    Be interested to see how long this lasts compared to most capture cards. Most I've used don't last more than a few years before experiencing issues.
    Does this work with older systems or just current ones?

    Got excited until you let slip it doesn’t actually support all current-gen features. Not really next-gen if it’s been current for 3 years.
    Limited audio is fine for me but 120fps and 60fps HDR are what I was looking for. At least having full pass-through is a good first step.

    I want to get a new capture device, but I don't know what to go for, I don't record/upload 4K videos or anything. My main issue with my current device is that, sometimes the recording lags or glitches up if there's a lot going on in a game. Like a Bullet Hell type game or something....Tried a few other devices before and I just kept getting other random annoying issues. Even an internal PCIe type of card, it gave me weird audio issues. lol

    Very disappointing that it's limited to 4k 30fps HDR Capture, but it also cannot do 4k 60fps HDR Capture! Hence, waiting for internal HDMI 2.1 PCIe Capture Card!
