1,000 AIRCRAFT? - Delta Air Lines Fleet
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Delta operates one of the largest active fleets of aircraft and is a significant player not just in the global aviation industry but acts as one of the big three within the United States, as such it has an important responsibility to provide customers with adequate means of transportation, especially in the forms of the latest technology and cabin product. In 2023, what aircraft does the airline operate, what's in storage and what types are beginning to age more than others?

Shows how important a high quality maintenance department is to an airline. Older, and very SAFE aircraft still being flown by DAL.
and that came from North west
I don't know if we outsource any heavy mx. American does and actually ends up spending more money on fixing errors than if they just did it in house.
@@BobbyGeneric145most of it is outsourced
I flew on some of those 717-200s when they were AirTran planes. I liked them. Then Southwest bought AirTran and the 717s were sold to Delta because Southwest is all 737s.
I don’t think I’ve been on a Delta 717 ever, though Delta is my usual airline. Haven’t flown since 2019 though.
The Delta MD-88s were my usual rides on Delta for years, flying from Florida to ATL and ATL to elsewhere.
Actually not sold, SWA leases them to Delta.
You should definitely get a ride before they retire
i flew on the a330-200 and the 767-300 a few weeks ago and loved both of them.
We recently flew Delta on an newer Airbus. Very nice aircraft. Some of the aging Boeings are getting old interior.
Check your numbers on the A330 fleet. It's over 60 jets now with 11 -200s and 31 -300s plus the 22 -900s
I think delta acquired 4 717s a couple weeks ago, also delta said they are keeping there 757 longer than they originally said they would. I just don’t want that 757 to leave. So sad
I’d be interested in knowing where these 4 717’s have come from? I was under the impression that they were on the list for replacement. It’d be sad to see them go given that they’re not really Boering’s but MDD MD-95’s.
@@Sarid6-3 just did some research looks like it’s actually 8 717s they took from volotea airlines.
@@frrrfrrr9177 I'm surprised they didn't buy them from Quanta's.
they’ve acquired a few from Qantas i believe
@@markvolpe2305 I hear they will pick up some of theirs as well.
My favourite aircraft on the delta fleet is the A350 - 900 . Nice if it had the 1000 variant also .
There’s some buzz around delta getting the dash 1000 planes that Airbus built and refuse to deliver for Qatar because of the paint issue
@@HoolaaBaaloo yeah I heard that Qatar airways refuse to get and Airbus refused to deliver the 1000 s . But in think that the problem is sorted out by now and Airbus are beginning deliveries to qatar again and qatar agreed to do so .
Ty dj!!
I think that Delta shouldn't got rid of the 777-200. I was hoping that Delta would of purchase the 777-W or orders for the 777-X. Delta needs more widebody aircraft in their fleet. Hopefully the would increase the A-350 to the A-350-1000
Agree! The 777 is important for routes like ATL-JNB, HNL, CPT, and HND. The A350s just don’t have the range quite like the 777s do. I wish they would have just stored the 777s until it was time to lease them or perhaps lease them to a freight company and get them back when the lease is up.
I fly the 757/ 767 at Delta, and our maintenance team does an amazing job at keeping these aircraft tip top shape despite their age. We have the best maintenance in the world. Great video, It will be very sad to see these birds flying west someday
Im a ramp agent and the 757 is my favorite plane to work on so im happy they are still flying them around.
I Like Lockheed L1011 Iconic Delta Airlines Jumbo Jet From 1973 To 1993 Golden Age Of Jet Age
Am I the only one who’s extremely anxious to see how they are going to replace the 767? Like it’s pretty clear to me that the 321 will replace the 757 but what’s going to replace the 767? They have a large amount of them and there hasn’t been a wide body order that couple possibly replace them from my point of view. I can’t wait for your next video about their fleet!! Keep on doing a great job keeping us informed DJ.
The A330’s will replace the 767’s over time. The 767’s are the biggest trouble makers with us as of right now. I work for Delta tech ops here in Atlanta
@@dougmitchell20 wish we never got rid of the l 1011......especially the ones from eal back in tje day 😂
@@dougmitchell20 I’m a flight attendant based in Atlanta with Delta. We appreciate you all in Tech Ops so much!! 🥹🫶🏾🔺I guess time will tell how we solve the 767 situation lol
The 757s are being replaced with a combination of the 321 and 737-9 and 10MAX they ordered recently. Problem with 767 replacement is there is not perfect match in size to replace them. The 330 is larger.
@@Stevo422 I worked for DL at the time in their final years and they became notoriously unreliable with age. The L1011 became late 10 times out of 11 in the fleet because something was always breaking.
Very nice .. Thank you
Later this month at the Paris airshow I think an order for the A330-800 and A350-1000 are most likely, but a larger A220 order I can also see as likely. Having the 717’s, the A220-100 is the closest replacement for them, the A220-300 a good A319 replacement. I also wish like American and United they would order the A321XLR as there a 757 replacement.
Still miss the MD 90 had quite a few flight on them from Toronto sitting up front very quiet and with 5 abreast almost like the 220 but then i miss the L1011 also
In terms of fleet it always flips and flops between then and American Airlines. But not much between the 2 carriers in terms of fleet. I hope Delta try get A350-1000
The old A320s came from Northwest and some from America West (I think) ...
No America West in the DL fleet. That's AA
Ok...As we say in Columbia SC ...when we die we have to take Delta to Atlanta to our final destination. My wish list is: Retire the 717's and bring in the A220. Retire the 757 to Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and New Orleans which are my favorite regional destinations. I love the A320 series or 737's or perhaps the 787-8 or -9 for Southeastern U.S. destinations. I'm onboard with whatever Delta comes up with but please update your Southeastern U.S. fleet.
I love the 757
lol out all all A220-300 ive loaded and unloaded 5 of them XD
It will be a sad day when the last of the 767 and 757 aircraft are gone from the Delta fleet. These planes are longtime iconic staples of the fleet, and as DJ said, Delta won't be the same without them.
For my next flight, I made sure to book on a Delta 767. I love these planes, and want to get one last flight before they go.
Everyone said the same when we lost the 747’s and Md-80’s we wouldn’t be the same airline after that. It’s just a formality, every airline has to lose the baggage of older aircraft. Now the 757’s will truly be missed as they are the workhorse currently with us. Great aircraft to fly and work on as well. 9/10 of us technicians hate working on the 767’s. They are not maintenance friendly at all
Not sad, things move on. Many aircraft types have been retired from the fleet over the years. And both the 767 and 757 are showing their age. Won't miss them.
@@dougmitchell20better than working on 220’s
Not too small plans bigger please
All new purchases will be narrow body
Wow, they are completely pivoting to Airbus and getting rid of Boeing.
Not true. Delta says that they are going to order Boeings next plane whenever it comes out.
There's nothing wrong with that. It's actually a great move!
Love it. Would love to see a350s flying local transcontinental occasionally ❤️
They have 100 737 MAX 10s on order.
Given the current roster, it is amazing how huge a pivot to Airbus this has been. Prior to the NWA merger, Delta was nearly 100% Boeing. I’m sure this will be a topic covered in Dj’s upcoming video.
I wonder if Delta plans to expand its international service. Still very Eurocentric and Latin American, but American does better with Latin America United is stronger with Asia. I don't know of any American airline really focused yet on Africa or the Indian subcontinent.
Their bread an butter is still dometic and it's where most traffic revenue and profits come from. International is secondary really for them
@@johniii8147 interesting that United seems to be focusing on major international expansion with the big 787 purchase and new international routes.
@@davidsilver4339 United has always been the most internationally focused of the the big 3 and have the hubs in the right place to do it. But even they are greatly expanding their domestic network with more aircraft and upgrading of size away from regionals. UA's weakness was their dometic network and they are working on that. Hence the huge expansion they have don at DEN.
don't forget that Delta owns 49% of Air France, 49% of Virgin Atlantic, 49% of AeroMexico. They also own LATAM, though not sure the percentage, probably 49% again due to restrictions.
Not sure why Delta does not replace the A330 with the B787 as it is far superior to even the A330 neo. No one makes a replacement for the B767 or even the B757. Sad that Boeing didn't plan a replacement program for both.
How is it superior and how do you know? Delta, the world's most successful airline, I might add, obviously particularly like the A330 types and if they were any less efficient, why would Delta even bother, as they do have a history of ordering the best aircraft for their fleet.
Delta did have an order which they cancelled. It was initially placed by Northwest who were acquired by Delta
@@michaelosgood9876 I've been on both aircrafts and both are great. For me I love A330
@@michaelosgood9876 Its definitely superior and you dont have to be an Aviation Maintenance Tech like myself to figure that one out. Its more efficient, has better cabin pressure, and a wider cabin. 80% of A330ceo operators have replaced them with the 787.
As for the 787, Delta decided to replace the A330CEO with the NEO for fleet commonality, on top of the fact that they got an excellent deal which offsets the loss of efficiency. In addition, Delta is the only airline in the world that owns its own oil refinery so the extra fuel needed for the A330 is not an issue for them. In the long run they save buy already having equipment, maintenance know-how, and trained pilots.
I hate the a321. It's an uncomfortable plane with an emergency exit in the middle of premium seating. The NEO is actually worse than the CEO. Seats are thin on padding and poorly laid out. I wish Delta would find another way. Sadly, these are the planes that will replace the 757 right now. My hope is that 737max10's on order will fill the mid market, but that seems like a lightyear away.
The overhead bins are also among the worst. Delta spent years training passengers to place rollaboards on edge, wheels first to maximize bag capacity. Now these planes come along and boarding is delayed because the 321 bins wont close with bags placed this way. Its like watching a game of Tetris as FAs try and reposition bags just before the door closes.
The MAX 10s won't fill in the roles of the A321neo, the MAX 10 will likely replace the 737s, and boost the capacity of the routes that the 737 flies.
It is the airline deciding which seats they add to the airplane. So Delta will add the same seats to a 737 Max.
The most uncomfortable aircraft in the DL fleet is the 737.
Actually those seats are way more comfortable and have better padding. The Max 10’s are more crammed with the slimmer cabin so good luck
It's so disappointing that Delta is going to Airbus
You do know that delta has 100 737max orders right? So definitely they're not going all airbus
Delta takes me everywhere. Im grateful to live in Atlanta where they are headquartered bc their service un-real. Keep up the good work Delta!
What needs to be talked about is the fact that they are phasing out the A319/320 for the A220, A321, and 737 MAX.
The fact that they ain't is wild
deltav dont want the 737 max
@@dknowles60yes they want, and they already order 100 units from Boeing
319/320 are still being used heavily at some hubs
@@rkevic They are still being used heavily at all the hubs. The phase out does not begin until 2025.
I've been on a lot of them over the last couple years (BCS1, BCS3, A319, A320, A321, A21N, A339, B712, B738, B739, B752, B763). Hoping to get on their A359 sometime in '24. I am not excited for them to add the B3XMs, as I find their 737s to be the most uncomfortable in the fleet.
Before Delta and Northwest merged, Delta only flew MD and Boeing aircraft
Northwest only had Boeing 747s and 757s, the rest of their fleet consisted of DC 9s, and Airbus aircraft including the A330s.
The 717s came to Delta via the Southwest Airlines acquisition of AirTran. Southwest didn't want the 717s so they agreed to lease them to Delta, which saw this as an opportunity to shed some regional aircraft.
the Only reason North west Brough the A330 was to retire the DC 10
D.J. as a big fan of both your channels. I work for United Airlines here at IAH Airport in Houston Texas. Can you do a fleet video about United. Keep up the amazing work
Got to fly on a 757 from ATL to SJO last year. My flight to ATL was on an A321N. I've flown on several of their 739ers and one 738. Havent managed to catch a widebody yet or the A220 series. Definitely looking forward to doing so.
I once flew the A321 transcon flight from JFK to LAX and it was nice! Hopefully the ATL-LAX route gets an A321 transcon cabin one day
Makes you wonder if any airline will replace the smaller a319/18 and smaller 737 and just go all in with A220. It’s not a perfect match but will would work.
Fun fact, the a220 has the lowest pilot turnover and highest satisfaction at Delta amongst pilots.
Fun fact…it has the least satisfaction at Delta amongst mechanics
Im going to be flying on their 757-200 and their 767-300ER next month and im super excited! I chose less optimal times just to get on these planes because I want to fly on them while theyre still around.
Delta’s A320s are old because they never ordered them. They are all former NWA a320s
I still love the 777. Not a fan of the 787 or the A350. Yes shiny planes with bells and whistles, but when traveling long distances the 777 feels a whole lot comfortable. People say the seats are wider, more space for leg comfort on the 350 and 787. I just don’t see it
How is Delta waiting on Boeing to develop the 797 to replace there 757?
They are not any longer since Boeing shelved that project. It was actually the 767 they were hopping to replace with the NMA aircraft Boeing canceled development on.
No CRJ-900?
Actually as of may 2023 Southwest Airlines has more with 796 aircraft in active service with 435 on order. All 737s.
I was very interested in hearing about so many aircraft types were in storage. I always wondered how they could maintain service when a plane was unexpectedly pulled out of service. They must have a crew ready to take one of these planes to any place they have encountered a problem with a plane. I have flown with them, but now have extra confidence in their ability to get me to my destination.
Is Delta Airline retiring their last a330-200/300s or are they still keeping them
Rumor mill has it that Delta 🔺 wanted to originally get a deal on their 737 max deal but due to the contract the other airlines had they couldn’t get a deal unless Boeing also cut a deal with all the other airlines that had already purchased them so apparently they might be in talks about Boeing moving the “deal” to the 787 Dreamliners instead and that would be a great replacement for their aging 767. If it’s true then that would be nice to have the Dreamliners in the fleet.
Unfortunately the deal with the Dreamliners was cancelled they are going back to the max aircraft. They will be getting 100 737 max 10s
Recently flew on a Delta 31 year old 757. Couldn’t even tell it was that old.
Delta has 88 717s now!!! They put more of them back into service
Not all of them are active. Last count between 64-68 are actively in the fleet.
Where are the electric jets? Or is it ok to burn kerosene by the ton while people are forced and coerced to buy EVs?
Cheers
imo commercial electric planes will not work, or at least not well. Remember that conventional aircraft burn off fuel and this increases their range. Electric planes do not lose any weight as they fly. Maybe I'm a curmudgeon but we all have plenty of experiences of batteries suddenly dying. No thanks.
DELTA NEEDS TO GET RID OF THE OLD NORTHWEST 30 year old A-320’s !! The consistently break down these days!!
They are. They are phasing out ALL the A319's and A320's and replacing them with the A220, A321neo, and 737 MAX.
They are working on. Just a lot of delays in delivery of new aircraft so they have to make do for now.
Lol im a ramp agent and the amount of times one of those planes broke down after we finished loading them is spectacular
Hopefully they make their fleet all Airbus.
They do have the MAX 10 on order...
Never gonna happen so get over yourself.
Is not going to happen.
Let’s hope not
@@justing42 Thats never gonna happen lol. They have 100 737 MAX's on order and have already stated they will be first in line for the Boeing NMA (797)
the A220-300 should replace the A320-200 Neo in the long run . . . should AIRBUS launch the A220-500 it'll cannibalize A321-200 Neo sales . . . & then AIRBUS will have no choice but to suspend production of the base A321-200 Neo variant & continue with production & assembly of only the A321-200 Neo LR & A321-200 Neo XLR narrow body jets . . . diminishing demand of the A321-200 Neo base variant will in turn influence more sales of the A220-500 . . . Delta should start retiring it's existing fleet of A330-200 & A330-300 & replace them with brand new A350-900 & A350-1000 HGW wide body jets or A330-900 Neo for that matter . . . it's being said (unverified sources) that Delta plans to acquire no less than 113 - 118 brand new A350-900, A350-900 ULR & A350-1000 HGW wide body jets . . .
The A220 300 is the same size as a 319. The 500 if it comes out would be a close replacement of the A320 ,but will still be a couple seat shorter than an 320 The A220 would never cover the 321.
@@kylecampbell1444 your right my friend . . . thank you for the correction in my statement . . .
The A220-500 wouldn't canabalise the A321neo, the A220-500 wouldn't have the capacity or range of the A321neo. The A350 isn't a replacement for the A330, that's why they ordered A330neo, the A350 is a replacement for the older 777 models.
The A220 is a pile
