Hoyt Stratos 40 HBT review

- We look at the latest target compound from Hoyt Archery, the Hoyt Stratos HBT. We look at what is new, we discuss what has changed, how it compares with other bows in the market.
We then shoot the Stratos 40 HBT over a chronograph and shoot at 18meters to see what we think of this bow and how it compares with the other brands top target bows.

Nice work man! I think you're probably providing the most down to earth archery reviews on youtube right now. I hate hype and I never see that here. I'm not a like/comment/subscribe kind of guy but do all of that here because I want to encourage you. Thanks for the reviews.
Great honest review, thank you. You reviews of all the Flagship models helped me immensely in making my decision which Target Bow to get next.
Thank you. I hope to get to compare them with a target setup at longer distance.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale hello mate for your opinion between this model and the prevail what is the best.. thanks
Thanks for the review as always.
I think it is a Cerakote (ceramic) finish which is sprayed on like a paint, and not an anodized one. It's tougher than paint or powder coat, and is seen a lot in the firearms world.
Great review. 😊
Mine arrives next week. I cannot wait!
Nice review, thank you. Be aware the Stratos run about .25" long. Mine (SVX) measures exactly 29.25 on the 29 setting. That 29.25" setting is likely smack on 29.5". Totally agree about needing crossover between HBT cams in DL. I draw 29 3/8", which is slightly longer than the top of the smaller cam and exactly what the shortest setting on the larger cam should give with the 1/8" offset grip attached, but what a difficult choice to make? One bow is too short and the other too long! I went SVX for extra speed (unmarked 3D) and also because I comfortably fit within the SVX #3 cam. You're right about the bow feeling like a Supra Focus. The SVX feels like the SF XL with the EM cam on the shot: crisp. The Hoyt has much less hand shock tho and is quieter. The Stratos SVX has a smoother more linear back end (zero dump) and higher holding weight, whereas the short valley of the EM cam can feel rather like a 'notch'. The SVX is way smoother at the back end and IMO has a nicer draw cycle, because the peak is longer and it tails off a little just before anchor. The EM cam at 29/29.5" peaks right before anchor and dumps a little. Harder on the body IMO.
They don't necessarily run long, they're just measured differently for DL. Also, if you need crossover you should try the shorter/longer riser. Personally I think 36" was a better choice than 37, since people who don't need a shorter bow just get the 40 anyways, and people who need a shorter bow need something quite short.
You are by far my favorite reviewer
Thank you.
Surprisingly favourable review of the new Stratos, Steven. I personally thought Hoyt's previous Invicta was a very pleasant bow to shoot, whereas these feature some welcome changes, particularly a cam change after many years to now a binary cam. The older style forward limb mounting location was another real surprise, & certainly now is noticeably similar to PSE & Mybo, so no wonder a similar shot experience. Quite a different bow to the new 2023 Elite Verdict , so now buyers have genuine choices according to the features what they prefer with the new offerings.
having seen both the Stratos and the Elite Rezult, I would unhesitatingly go for the latter, it is a superior bow in multiple ways. the Stratos is a disappointment and a misstep for Hoyt.
@@ScottPankhurst We'll see how that works out for Elite on the Shooting Line I guess soon...
have heard some talk of having serving separation issues after shooting a while due to the cam design. this is with a few diff string makers also.
I was looking for this review, thanks!Overall it looks less adjustable than the Verdict, Dominator and Reckoning for a higher price. I have 29 DL and as you said, this cams sizing can be a big issue.
29" is an issue. On this cam it is a little long. But it felt ok. It would be nice for 28-5-29.5 so you are safer. 100% the Verdict is very adjustable a different feel bow. The Verdict would be more like the Mathews which is dead in the hand.
Hey, how do you compare it to the Gearhead B36?
do you plan on trying the reckoning gen 2? I
just placed a order for one. I absolutely loved it.
Yes they take time to come because the cost for air freight is a lot.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale awesome! Looking forward to it i have one on order in Canada ibwas told 3-6 weeks
What do you prefer? Elite Verdict or this one?
Do you prefer the stratos over the elite verdict?
Can you please give a chance to altus htb 2023 model and make video about it
hi, what is the peep sight on the bowstring made of? is it just a string, rope, knot? thanks
they are machined out of aluminium.
Most of them are made of metal material with a center hole and rim groove to attach to the string.
I'm Currently looking at a new bow, Stratos or reckoning gen 2, Has anyone had experience with either
The archery dealer i spoke to today said the reckoning has issues with the cable flex guard failing.
That bow shot 294fps at 29.5".... That is better than bows that were listed at a 330+ ibo with the same arrow. I would have liked to see some tuning options ie Elite, Bowtech, PSE, but seems like a nice target bow- just a little behind on tech
🤣. Behind on Tech .. Well all Be... When You make a good product You don't have to jack it around like others to hopefully get it to Perform... I bet Broadwater couldn't wait till the day his contract was up with them And Campaign Bows to get a Hoyt back in his hands...
I recently shot one through a chrono as was very let down by the speed, it was around 15fps slower than my 40" Stratos with SVX cams. Which is exactly what they are rated at by Hoyt, but I didn't know that at the time.
A lot of companies rate their bows >10fps too high. APA and Elite are some of the worst, but Mathews does it as well. With PSE it really depends on the cam and draw length, the closer you are to the max DL, the closer they are to their advertised rating.
The whole IBO rating system is nonsense. What you would really need to do to get an actual feeling for the bows performance is set different bows up to shoot the same arrow at the same speed and then compare if you would rather shoot an SVX Hoyt with 53# or a Elite or HBT Hoyt with 59.5#.
Hoyt could include all modules in the package. Mathews! Look and learn.
i hope mathews release new target bow with 65% letoff, cuz i feel TRX is too soft for me even with the 70v letoff
Mathews makes Bow's 🤔🤷🏻♂️.
are going to do a review on the new botechs
The Bowtechs take awhile to come in. But I may fly some in. For some reason freight from Bowtech via air is $500 per bow. So Bowtech tend to come by sea.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale Glad that it sounds like you will be reviewing the Bowtech Reckoning Gen 2 when you get them in. I was hoping you might do that to help me make up my mind between the Reckoning and the Verdict
If you should buy only one, which should buy between this and the elite verdict?
Try shoot them both and you will know which one you prefer.
@blizzbee not everyone has that luxury though...
@@liamboyle9199 i mean at the shop as the test shooting before purchase 😅😅
I'm in this exact same boat right now. Did you end up deciding?
I can't for Mathews Phase 4 review
So which one should I buy Hoyt Stratos or bowtech Reckoning ?
Move your nocking point to the proper position for that Bow and it will balance like any other Bow
What # was he shooting?
Probably 60lb
60#
Thanks!
😂😅 get whisker biscuit sponsored you at the bow Competitions you might win
I think it would be a fair contest if your competitors used a whisker rest and a $20 sight.
All Steven's reviews include these same accessories to compare. Check.
Actually I would like Steven to compete against them 18/m WA. Could be fun!
Arrow broken
Thanks
400 less than a title in chinada.. a bowrech rekonning are going for 600 dollars less... they are fn crazy...
Not a PSE man mentioning potential limb problems..... lol
For someone that likes the bow. You sure have a lot of complaints
lol
I see you are not realy 100% happy with the Stratos 🤔
I would like the crossover in draw length. I think tunning offered by other companies will be a thing Hoyt might look at. The grip is good, but I may prefer the Elite grip. But overall it is a very good bow.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale Thank you for your Answer. I have Hoyt Seven 37 from 2008. Im thinking to buy new Target Bow for Field and 3D, so.. hoyt stratos 36 HBT or Bowtech Reckoning 36 gen 2 ? What do you think?
About time Hoyt abandons their obsolete cam design.
this is the first time Hoyt have moved away from their fundamental hybrid Cam1/2+ design for many years and gone to a binary, and personally I think they have done a poor job of it.
@@ScottPankhurst what do you not like about hoyts binary cam design?
Not really obsolete. The svx/spiral pro has shot tons of world records including perfect 600s in world archery.
@@ScottPankhurst why do you hate it?
Obsolete Huh🤔. It's been winning on the line for how many years now? Don't fix what ain't broke
