Thank you for this video, explaining the options provided by Hulu. I currently have DISH, which I feel that I’m going to have to get a part time job with the continual price hikes. Given your insight, I will go with Hulu! Thank you so much!!😊
I went with Hulu after looking at others. So far so good. The streaming quality is real good. I found it even better, in some cases, better than the Spectrum service I had. Thank you for your info. Made me feel good about my choice!
I cut cable and installed Roku on my tv. I get all the content I need through streaming services and mirroring my phone on my TV. But I don't have any live TV. I want to watch Alabama and Georgia college football games, so I am looking at Hulu +live tv. But I read somewhere you can't get it with mobile internet. I have a mobile hot spot ,.so I read that as mobile internet. I get Hulu with Roku, so will I get Hulu+ live tv with Roku. Does anybody know?
I realize this is an old content but I subscribed to Hulu based on your review. After one day we cancelled. Apparently you can’t watch a program your recording from the beginning until the recording has ended. It’s been a known issue and they don’t mention this on their site. It’s also difficult to schedule recordings and favorites.
Great video 👍👍👍 Lots of good info. The only channel that Hulu is missing that I like is BBC, because they play a lot of good movies and nature shows. With this DVR upgrade Hulu has become a MUCH more attractive service IMO. Now, in addition to it's VOD library, and the ESPN+/Disney+ bundle makes Hulu an equal competitor for UA-cam tv for me.
I canceled when they raised the rates. I had the no-commercial version and watched all of Only Murders and Catherine, which were both genuinely fantastic but raising the rates is just too offensive. I also like the McCartney 321 and I briefly expanded to Disney for Get Back and the sequel to the Mandalorian, and binged all of Futurama, so I'd reached the point of diminishing returns. My girlfriend has the commercial version, which totally sucks. As the episode progresses they add more and more really annoying ads.
Wow, what a great review. I am so tired of my cable company. 1) will Hulu + Live TV replace our Netflix? 2) what is the picture quality, will it still be 1080p or do i need Apple TV in every room? 3) We have HBO max, Showtime, Disney+ app and Paramont app… can we get rid of all those streaming apps? I feel that we pay for a lot of streaming apps. Wondering if consolidation would save us even more money…and leaving the unsatisfying cable company. but we still need internet…dang! Thank you for your guidance.
1) Personally, I'm still subscribed to Netflix. Not that I watch it that much, but the original shows and series/documentaries wouldn't be on Hulu or Disney+/ESPN+. 2) I think I've read reviews where the picture quality is at least 720p with 60 frames/second. Disney+ looks a little bit sharper to me, but Hulu isn't bad. It just won't be 4K for every live channel. I'm actually more upset with the AUDIO/sound quality. I think it's only 2.0 or 2.1 stereo for a majority of the content. Netflix should have at least 5.1 Dolby Digital, right? And I know I've used 5.1 Dolby Digital for Disney+ (my receiver can't decode Dolby Atmos, which seems to be offered for newer Disney+ content). I'm not sure what your setup is like, but each screen or TV would need either a built-in Hulu app, or a "set top box" (like Apple TV or Roku), or some way to mirror a phone/tablet where the Hulu app is installed. 3) I know that Hulu lets you add the HBO and Showtime channels. That might be different from HBO Max or the Showtime app. Kind of like how ESPN+ gives you access to streams and on demand content that you wouldn't get with a regular ESPN subscription through cable/satellite. Paramount+ is its own thing. I would think you'd need to maintain a separate subscription. Disney+ comes bundled with Hulu + Live TV now. I originally signed up for the bundle, so I'm not sure how you transfer your existing name/password to log in with your Hulu account or don't get double charged for Disney+.
@@willr81680 Will, thanks so much for the detailed reply. I got to experience UA-cam TV at my brother’s house, and i really liked it. All my TVs at my house have UA-cam TV app on it. I am leaning toward UA-cam TV and keeping Disney+ and Netflix. I love your idea of using streaming services like HBO, Showtime and Paramont+ when we need them. For instance, our fall shows are on Paramount+, and we wouldn’t need that app till the fall. So, my last question is, would you put UA-cam TV over Hulu +? Is the picture quality and sound better on UA-cam TV? Thanks so much!
I'm searching for a new streaming service since getting the Fubu Notice of the price increase,. I'm considering Hulu Live Tv but my biggest issue with them is 1) NO AMC 2) you have to suffer through commercials even if you paid extra for NO Commercials . I HATE COMMERCIALS !!! so fast forwarding through them is important to me .
Much better than watching Comcast yes I am missing a few minor stations but for the most part I get everything I want for a lot cheaper price. And I don't have to keep adding on packages to get what I want.
I ended up hating Hulu live because they randomly cut off service when customer does not have in home internet. We streamed from our phone’s unlimited data plan. I spent so much time on phone with support explaining I could not link Hulu live with a home network because I did not have one (often still being told I just needed to link with my nonexistent home network). Then waiting while they refreshed by ability to have the service I was paying for. None of the other streaming services I have used had this issue.
I don't like how the guide defaults to Recent channels. It should default to All channels. Or just put the Recents above All channels so you can just scroll down into them instead of clicking over to the left and selecting each one each time. But my biggest gripe when I trialed it before was when I rewinded live tv and then tried to catch back up to live, it would force a commercial on me. Does it still do that?
Very good presentation but I’m still not sure what the “no-ads” version buys me. Does the “ads” version not allow you to fast forward through ads, but the “no-ads” does allow fast forward through recorded ads? Thanks!
So Hulu has two services basically that are both within the same app: 1) Standard Hulu. This is like Netflix. No live channels just on-demand movies and shows that you select from a menu on your own schedule (Only Murders in the Building, The Handmaid's Tale, Family Guy, etc etc.). You can get this on its own without the live channels. 2) Hulu + Live TV. The much more expensive service that includes live channels and a DVR to record those channels (ABC, ESPN, TBS, etc.). This service also includes everything from #1. If you get Hulu + Live TV, no matter what plan you have, the live channels will always have ads. If you record a show with the DVR, it will always have ads, although you can fast forward past them. When we're talking about "ads" or "no ads" this only applies to the movies and shows included with #1 (Standard Hulu). So if you get Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV, for example, an episode of "Only Murders in the Building" you select from the menu won't have ads. But if you navigate to the live guide and start watching ABC, it will have ad breaks, even though it's all in the same app.
Thanks for the great review. I was going to subscribe to Hulu Plus live anyway but you just reaffirmed what I already decided. Since I despise being interrupted with commercials with on demand movies it's worth it to me to pay the extra $6 per month. You're exactly right, with all the content available across the three platforms it's the best bang for the buck.
First off, great review. Seriously considering returning to Hulu due to Fubo's poor picture quality for live sports. However, what is with Hulu and their DVR cutting of the end of shows? They claim to be working on it, yet extending recording times has been around for 20 years. Is it just to force people to use their library? I asked them about this over a year ago, and their phony answer remains. Thanks.
Thanks, Rick! If I record a live event I always record the time slots after just in case because I'm paranoid. I haven't had any major issues with their DVR recently, though.
Such a great in-depth review. I just subscribed to your channel. Can you do more in-depth reviews like these on different streaming services (UA-cam TV, Netflix, HBO Max, Apple TV Plus, etc.).
Thanks for the compliment and for sure! I've actually already reviewed HBO Max & Apple TV+. I'll be reviewing UA-cam TV soon as well. I put together all my streaming service reviews on a playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PLH6D14ephVlV5AJzJlRXRzvWuQPOj3ZuV.html
July-22. Why I dropped Hulu.. Hulu added Espn and didn’t tell me, they said it was a gift. BUT my monthly payment went from $70 to $80, and Espn can not be removed. I’m using UA-cam live $65 a month
I am about to drop my satellite TV account and start streaming Hulu is already on my TV. Can you review think that’s the direction I’m going to go. What do you know about digital antennas for local channels?
With one account you can stream on as many TVs as you want. But you can only stream from 2 at the same time. If you want to get unlimited simultaneous screens, it's an extra $9.99/mo.
Is it possible to get the live tv without the Disney bundle? I already have Disney plus and I don’t care about espn plus. Thinking about getting rid of cable soon.
I started to research the streaming services a while back. UA-cam TV would be associated with Google, so that was a deterrent for me (yet, here I am commenting on a YT video?). Philo seems fine if you don't watch ESPN. Fubo might be the one where it's like, if you choose blue, there's no Fox News. And the other one has no ESPN. So, you'd end up with blue and orange for a similar price to Hulu, but no streaming library. I had the Hulu bundle by itself, and then I turned on Live TV the other day. I'm still getting used to the channel list being in alphabetical order (no numbers like with cable or satellite). So, CBS will be further down the list than ABC (CBS is channel 2 where I live). The on screen guide is kind of quirky (on Roku, I think you press the down arrow; Apple TV asks you to swipe up). I thought I had asked it to record "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune" on Monday, but I don't see them in My Stuff. It's possible that they were reruns? I'm trying to figure out those settings. The picture quality, I don't know. I guess not everything can look like 4K Blu-ray (or even 1080p Blu-ray). It's definitely high definition, though. Then, I'm not sure why they don't seem to offer surround sound (at least 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS like on a DVD). Maybe it will get better with time? Even on satellite, I'm not sure which networks are broadcasting at 1080i or 4K with 5.1 audio. Satellite still has more channels, but you also end up paying more.
i just have one question. when i had hulu plus live tv, the one thing i had trouble with is deleting a show from recording. i have deleted it from recording and it still constantly records. have you ever had this problem? if so, how did you fix the problem? thanks
I have a question.. if I was recording a Browns game and before the game was over.. would I be able to start the game from the beginning while it was still recording like a red DVR…?!???
I have an Android TV that Hulu Live TV does not seem to work on. I am considering both UA-cam Live TV and Hulu Live. Do you know what the best device would be to have the option to get either one of those apps?
I watch Hulu live through a fire stick. I do so because when I joined, I could change channels through Alexa. Not the remote, but through the echo device in my room. I never had to pick up the remote for anything. I don’t know how you’re viewing your Hulu app but my experience except for the very beginning when everything worked, Has been ultimately abysmal. I have to restart the app 6 to 7 times a week because it gets stuck Or cancels itself out and goes to my Amazon prime page. I couldn’t tell you how many times they’ve given me credit for the month. It’s that bad. My Internet speed is quite high and I keep it because my mother lives with me and we have no other way of seeing live channels. My God. I would recommend this only two people I dislike. Maybe not even then
how is the DVR on hulu? i've been using YTTV for several months and just wanted to drive something different. i'm just wondering about it's ease of use, and how easy it is to find the shows you've recorded. it's simple on YTTV and hoping it's similar. just really wish youtube would get history channel back. the only thing i would miss is AMC, but that would be manageable. think i might give it a go for a month, just to compare.
Both have "unlimited" DVRs now. The thing I like about Hulu is you can record individual episodes. Their interfaces are different and I know some people don't like Hulu's but I really don't mind. I made a video comparison here: ua-cam.com/video/TERHGvJ9GK0/v-deo.html
@@ShallIStreamIt I love the fact that you can record thousands and thousands of movies and tv shows on Hulu and it won't affect anyone in your household
All packages include the ESPN channels, ESPN+, the NFL network, plus the main broadcast networks so that should cover all your bases for NFL games, local or otherwise. The only thing missing is non-local Thursday Night Football games since Prime Video has the streaming rights to that now.
What's the best Modem to buy for this service?? If I have 2 tvs in the house with hulu on,, will my other devices (phones) be slow or not work because they're using the same home modem??
The main thing I would recommend with internet is a service with speeds of at least 50 mbps. The more devices you add and stream with at the same time, generally the lower the speed will be. Whichever plan you get from an Internet Service Provider, typically they'll include a modem that will accommodate your needs.
Great info. What is the video quality for Live TV. I use a Roku and it appears Hulu Live TV only streams in 720p per their support section. (1080p does exist on other devices.) Has that been upgraded for Roku? (I have the Ultra 4800.) Thanks.
Sorry for the very, very delayed response here but it's looking like for live TV there still isn't 1080p support for Roku unfortunately, although it does include up to 4K support on Roku for their on-demand movies and shows.
Will Hulu gift cards cover Add ons such as: . Unlimited Screens . Entertainment Networks . Sports Networks. Also, will Hulu gift cards cover Hulu Live TV?
I looked through their help website and it looks like the only thing ineligible would be premium network add-ons like HBO Max and Showtime. Here’s the page: help.hulu.com/s/article/gift-cards
So if I sign up for this will I just be able to type a sports team in search and it will record all games streamed by them automatically or will I have to look at each game to record?
We just dropped the video portion of cable and only have internet. Trying UA-cam tv. Like it so far. We also have Hulu with no ads and love it. The only hang up with Hulu live tv is you can only stream 2 devices. Then charging another 9.99 is a little ridiculous.
The main problem with Hulu, or any other streaming service is the user interface-they all suck compared to cable services. Convoluted navigation, stupid recording options/ability, etc. But on balance, even maxed out with no ads and with added features like HBO, Disney, etc, STILL cheaper than cable. Cut the cord today-you win’t be sorry. After all, it’s just TV.
The interface takes some getting used to. I find that Fubo and DirecTV Stream probably have the most similar interface to a traditional TV service but they are more expensive than Hulu + Live TV or the other streaming services.
@@ShallIStreamIt, it’s more than just getting used to it…it has some flaws that need to be corrected to make it more user friendly. Simple things like page up/page down capability when scrolling through channels, or being able to leap by day instead of having to scroll through every hour to get to the next day. Also, recording series is weird-interface allows you to record new only, but even when selected records every show. Seems some software genius could figure it out. Again, a small thing, and I’m definitely glad I cut the cord, but just nagging little issues need to be addressed and fixed.

how is the DVR on hulu? i've been using YTTV for several months and just wanted to drive something different. i'm just wondering about it's ease of use, and how easy it is to find the shows you've recorded. it's simple on YTTV and hoping it's similar. just really wish youtube would get history channel back. the only thing i would miss is AMC, but that would be manageable. think i might give it a go for a month, just to compare.
My thing that I’m worried about is football. Is it only local football? Or can I still watch the raiders even though they moved to Nevada 😔
All packages include the ESPN channels, ESPN+, the NFL network, plus the main broadcast networks so that should cover all your bases for NFL games, local or otherwise. The only thing missing is non-local Thursday Night Football games since Prime Video has the streaming rights to that now.
Thanks so much for all the great info
You are so welcome!
Do they offer ultra high def 4K on Hulu + Live TV they way they offer it on the streaming service?
Great info. What is the video quality for Live TV. I use a Roku and it appears Hulu Live TV only streams in 720p per their support section. (1080p does exist on other devices.) Has that been upgraded for Roku? (I have the Ultra 4800.) Thanks.
Sorry for the very, very delayed response here but it's looking like for live TV there still isn't 1080p support for Roku unfortunately, although it does include up to 4K support on Roku for their on-demand movies and shows.
lol $70 a month what a rip off. AppleTV+Netflix+Prime+Plex+Arcade+Music+Spotify+Satview+Freeview+Discoveryplus+Britbox IN TOTAL IS LESS by half.
The YTTV $19.99 charge for 4K really makes it a much less compelling choice. Nice review.
Will Hulu gift cards cover Add ons such as:
. Unlimited Screens
. Entertainment Networks
This service does not have PBS. That is a dealbreaker because no Masterpiece. I will compare an app for that vs paying for Disney plus somewhere else.
it does now
So only 2 tv can stream live example like watching the Hawkeyes play
Why do I pay for unlimited tvs then
I'm curious I still need a internet provider?
Yup. So when factoring out savings vs cable factor that in.
Do a how to get Disney Plus for free
what's free VPN it can accsess hulu?i'm outside US want to watch hulu
We just dropped the video portion of cable and only have internet. Trying UA-cam tv. Like it so far. We also have Hulu with no ads and love it. The only hang up with Hulu live tv is you can only stream 2 devices. Then charging another 9.99 is a little ridiculous.
Yeah I think they should at least do 3 at a time to match YT TV. But then if you want to do unlimited screens its $20 on YT TV vs $10 on Hulu.
how much?
Here's their current pricing: help.hulu.com/s/article/what-is-hulu-live-tv
The live guide isn’t on ipad
Will move over only when they add NPR/PBS
You could always watch it through the PBS app.
@@ShallIStreamIt Then I could not record.l
Great video.
Thanks, Jennifer!
So I have a very interesting question 🤔. If Hulu, Disney, and ESPN are mostly "on demand" why do you need an unlimited DVR? 😆 🤣 😂 I'm just sayin 🤷.
For the live tv service, if you wanted to watch something live later on you can record it.
I understand that I'm just saying mainly everything is "on demand" except sports so it's a waste to get unlimited DVR for that
@@franklinmcclain6995 nothing on live tv is on demand lol
Price is too expensive
Like bruh 54 dollars a month ?!?!? If it was like 30 then ya but 50 is borderline
@@armonbrown213 $74.99 staring in Dec
Does anyone know if the nfl network come with the Hulu live tv by chance and if so will this be good enough for Sunday nfl games ?
Yup. NFL Network comes with it. The only weird thing to be aware of this season is Thursday Night Football is a Prime Video exclusive.
@@ShallIStreamIt thanks for the reply..
NFL SUNDAY TICKET is on UA-cam TV. Not Hulu Live
I just want to watch WWE live events like raw and smackdown does any one know if they are available?
Great review ! 🎉 he nailed it
The main problem with Hulu, or any other streaming service is the user interface-they all suck compared to cable services.
This guy is good
It's 6.99$ a month right? Not 69.99$ a month?
Hulu on its own is $6.99. If you get the live channels with Hulu + Live TV then its $69.99.
$75 a month if you want ad free
I have Hulu & pay $69.99, but I don't see live tv. Why?
I guess spend money every week I just put it in the bank good stuff I want
did you mean Fox news Hannity and all?
Hulu + Live TV includes Fox News, yes.
How does it compare to xfinity/comcast?
