This is very common in India household... In south India, the pregnant mother wear glass bangles on her baby shower (7th month if pregnancy) which is to be kept until the baby is born...the noise made by those glass bangles help to develop the auditory pathway in the fetus...
Having always seen adults around me talking to kids I just thought that this helps you better understand their signs when showing discomfort or happiness. Never knew it even had such a reason. It's amazing how such seemingly small things play an instrumental role in a baby's development

Yes agree. So many times I keep telling the same thing, wait for them to respond. And some talk so loudly near infants. I feel these kind of basics should be made mandatory for all parents. Earlier in joint families there were old, experienced who guided the new parents. Now many are just clueless about so many basic things.
I talked to my daughter constantly from the day she was born in English and her babysitter did the same in Spanish. One day while bathing her I realized her jabber talking was not jabber, she was talking to me in English and I began to understand her words as she perfected her pronunciation. it was amazing!
