I see a lot of people asking if I am actually switching or just doing this for the video. I get that a lot of creators do that, but I am legitimately switching. I feel very strongly about my closing statements in this video. In order to maintain my credibility and honesty in videos, I cannot have brand loyalty or biases. Every year, I switch between iOS and Android, and this year will be an android year for me. The switch is so annoying (thanks to Apple's hurdles) but I am making it happen. Don't believe me? Check back in a month, or two months, or eight months :)
Also don't forget that you can switch to a magsafe case. Honestly the Peak Design is really good. Moment and Mous make good ones as well. So you've got options lol.
Like you, I switch back and forth because I happen to love tech and both are great choices with benefits from both of them. I often end up switching back to iPhone because my family is on iPhone and I'm the odd man out because of iMessage, Facetime, etc. I will say that I have grown to appreciate Apple Maps quite a bit and CarPlay. Google maps has become such a bloated mess that won't shut up I run it with voice nav turned off.
Making the switch is definitely more annoying going from apple to android. I had s7 then to xr and I think next year Ill go with the next pixel 8. I just want google assistant and the ability to back up my photos locally. You can technically transfer photos to Windows now but if you have 1000+ photos its going to freeze and not finish. It suuuucks. I ended up paying for more cloud storage and then downloading from there. Pretty annoying. The biggest loss will be facetime as my fiance and I always use it. She doesnt want me to switch because of that and the emojis and stuff but idk if its all that big of a deal. Google really needs to focus on video capture though. From what Ive seen it can be good to absolute trash. Pictures seem really good but they need to improve the video quality by a lot.
I'm doing the same this year. I had an iPhone 11, have a Mac, Apple watch and beats fit pro and will actually change for the Pixel 7 Pro because I feel the price is fair for what they ask and I can't say the same for the 14 since it looks like the same phone as the 13, but more expensive. Brand loyalty is a stupidity. High props to you mate!
sadly android world has no good alternative for apple watch, i dont own any apple products right now , but thinking of iphone for that nice watch. Samsung watch is not even in the same frame sadly.
@Damian Wójcikiewicz yea for Android Garmin watch is best, but then it's not really a smartwatch more like fitness watch. I have Garmin venu 2 and it's accurate. I don't own Galaxy watch but I have seen a lot of reviews and galaxy watches are not accurate. Apple watches though have less battery life but they are almost as accurate as Garmin watch and have so many more phone features.
You are totally right: Brand loyalty is non sense. All those brands have a job : taking our money. I use different brand products everyday without any problem. Wifi, Bluetooth, Cloud are here for that but a lot of people don't know how to use their products.
I went from a Samsung (used basically all Google apps though) and switched to an iPhone 14 Pro due to emergency SOS. One thing that surprised me, and really makes me want to go back, is how much better Google seems to be at being an actual phone. Spam detection is far better than on an iPhone, which is generally blanket blocking all calls from an unknown number, and the same is true for spam texts. I often get texts from vendors, one time passcodes, or coworkers and Google Messages is smart enough to pass those through to my inbox as opposed to in the unknown numbers folder which I often don't ever see. Other things that Google just destroys iPhones at are the keyboard quality (GBoard is just miles ahead of iOS keyboard) as well as the cross platform integration, especially if you use Google One.
emergency sos and crash detection ahave been on pixel for 3 years. you can even set a time interval, and the phone will check back on you. if you don't respond, it will call your emergency contacts and share the location. very useful if you have to walk in sketchy areas.
@@laurentiupopa5001 It's not the same. I often go to areas with 0 cell service. Emergency SOS on an iPhone will allow free satellite communication with EMS for rescue, or if a car breaks down. Pixel is limited to in range communication.
Gboard is great on android, but that’s a low bar because android has trash their party keyboards anyway. I would put iOS default keyboard at slightly behind gboard overall.
Both are great. I like to switch between both. It's really not the effort people think it will be, you just plug your android phone into an iOS phone and follow 1 minute's worth of setup screens. I think Apples ecosystem is unrivalled but Google is catching up and innovating more quickly. The Google phones are definitely more fun but Apple has a more clean feel to it. Just a personal opinion. Not sure why people get into one and are so defensive, they're just big companies. Move between them and make them work for your money rather than being blindly loyal.
I agree, I took the leap and just got the pixel pro 7 yesterday. Was there a way you moved your passwords over to pixel? Or did you have to do it manually?
but that's called a jailbreak and you will not get the same updates as an iPhone "unless the jailbreak makers of the OS updates it them self and to update you would have to go through the process again. Also, you may not feel like it different but there is no real way of knowing what they put in their software.
Such a good reviewer - not just talking through the spec sheet we already know, it's just like a calm conversation. I also like that it's your opinions on it not just what you think we want to hear. Great job!
Well done, well said. I'm on Pixel 6A now, and couldn't be happier. The whole Googlesphere works for me --- phone, maps, photos, assistant, home, docs/sheets, cloud storage, etc. Apple always felt too restrictive and constrained.
This was great all around. Totally respect your closing statement. I'm not brave enough to do the same (way locked into Android personally), but I love that you're willing to change things up to have a wider perspective.
Personally I own an iPhone 14 Pro Max, S22 Ultra, and now today just got my Pixel 7 Pro. I love every single one of them. The iPhone definitely has the better Speakers and Battery, the S22 is better for watching content on and is just fun to use (especially with that S Pen), and the Pixel just feels the best in the hands, has the better camera, and is just extremely reliable.
I also recently just switched from the iPhone 14 Pro Max to the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Clearly the iPhone has the edge on some features but there's just something about the way that Google Pixel makes everything fit together more. It's hard to describe. I used to think totally differently but now it feels like Android as overtaken iOS not just in the number of features but in the smooth and effective implementation of those features. Now the iPhone software feels like it's just trying to catch up to Android.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I've got an Android and an iPhone. To me the iPhone feels like a group of individuals, in terms of apps and general functionality, whereas the Pixel is just a little better connected and coherent due to the excellent Google integration.
I switched from a Galaxy S9+ to the Pixel 7 Pro. I know it's not a fair comparison seeing the age of my previous phone, but the difference in software 'feel' and how it works with the hardware is just super refreshing. My S9+ had so much Samsung bloatware, and what now feels like 'unnecessary' integrations with their features like Bixby. The Pixel just works and does everything really well. Its super smooth, very reliable, lightweight and gives a lot more user freedom which is what you want from an Android device.
It's sooooo nice to see tech reviewers take social media apps camera performace into consideration!!! Thank you so much for that, it's usually a deciding factor for me when buying a phone
Glad you liked it! I really think it is important. When I look at my camera roll, there is a large portion of my photos and videos that were captured with social cameras and saved!
When I buy new phone in 21. century I am not looking for performance, but for features and battery life... All phones, not Chinese cheap crap all perform better then 99% people even need.
pixel 7 pro sucks, iPhone is always the king of smartphone. The video quality is better, the fastest phone in the world, has the longest software support, has imessage and Facetime. Everyone change the iPhone because its better than Pixel, more like "camera pixel".😂🤣🤣
In Australia the price difference between the iPhone and the pixel is massive. The 128gb iphone 14 pro is $1749 ($1250USD) , whilst the 128gb pixel 7 pro is $1299 ($928USD)
You just earned my sub! I used to be android and went to iPhone, and now considering to go back to Android. This is one of the best most unbiased reviews I have seen and I like how you focused on real world usage and you really don’t care about popular opinion or being defensive. I might just switch back because I love the Pixels!
@@julien9197 Make the switch and give it a shot. I'm planning to get mine for Christmas. I used to always had Android till I lost my phone and someone gave me their old iphone and then been using iphone since. Idk, they both offers different stuff. I currently have an iphone 13 and kinda boring of iOS. I'm planning to keep my iphone in case I decide to come back to iOS.
@@julien9197 You're right. I've always had Pixel phones since the day Android launched. I bought a 13 Pro Max for Fathers Day and was really excited to try out the Apple software ever since iOS 15. I will say that 1. apps really do feel more polished on iOS vs Android. 2. the full s/w support of my Airpods Pros 2 is wonderful. 3. Siri/ voice commands has come a long way since the last time I remember it. 4. the battery life, and over all performance is just unmatched. The Google Pixel 7 Pro really is a great phone, but I do love my iPhone for now as well.
Just like you Mike, I have 2 phones I bring with me everywhere, the iPhone 13 and the Pixel 6. Both phones are incredible and I enjoy both equally, but I do prefer the Pixel devices ultimately because the software experience is so good! I got the Pixel Watch and gave my Apple Watch SE to my Wife who's rocking the iPhone 14 Pro and really enjoy Google's watch. I would say for me my struggle is getting everyone over to messaging and video calling me on apps like Signal or Telegram. Many people have Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp but I really don't like the quality of the video calling and my friends say the same. Google Meet is really the only thing that comes close to FaceTime so that's been an enjoyable experience so far!
I got a magsafe case for my Pixel 7 Pro and it works exactly like the iPhone. I'm on the fence about switching from the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It's such a hard decision. Right now I'm rocking two phones and I find myself really loving the pixel more. 😮
I have owned 4 generations of Pixels (Gen 1, 3xl, 5 and currently the 6 Pro. I am very happy with the 6 Pro. Android has matured and has gotten very refined. Other than the OS, I really love the Pixels picture capabilities and looks like they are taking video more seriously as Google now is making their own SOC. Great video!
I've also been with Google since the first pixels, and was still on Android before that (but didn't own a nexus). I'm thinking to switch this time around though to team apple. Google constantly fails at video. Even with side by sides at the store, I see that the 7pro stutters in the beginning before becoming smooth, yet the 14pro never has this issue. Every google phone I've had always has this stuttering issue, like a dropped frame, but I've never experienced it with Apple.
Excellent video and very helpful. I switched to an iPhone 13 Pro Max after using a Pixel for many years but I’m thinking about switching back to the pixel 7. There are two things that are never mentioned in any review which has me thinking about going back. One, there are many third-party apps where you cannot increase the font size on the iPhone. It may sound minor, but for me it’s not. UA-cam studio is an example. No matter what you do on an iPhone, the font size stays the same. Also, being able to text through my work PC is something that I used to do all the time on android. Doesn’t look like Apple will never allow your iMessage from a browser. That would be a game changer if they did.
@@eulehund99 there's nothing significantly more different from the 6pro other than battery life and the overall "polish" of the phone and corresponding features. This is the first pixel phone I've owned where it just feels like everything's been ironed out at release of the phone vs several updates later.
I agree about the apps not respecting the system text size. As someone with horrible vision, it means that I basically need to hold the iPhone a few inches from my face if I'm not wearing glasses. Given how common this is, I'm surprised that Apple hasn't made respecting system text size a requirement for all apps on the app store, save for maybe games where it's impractical. I also agree about the web app version of Google Messages. It's genuinely nice to be able to use whatever computer you want, and be able to text, check your calendar, etc without being locked to one vendor's hardware.
That’s exactly the move I’m making! Trading in my iPhone 13 Pro Max for a Pixel 7 Pro I have on order in Hazel with their super good trade in offers. I’ll let you know what I think, but for me, it comes down to a few things: 1) frustrations with iOS 16. UI bugs have become a norm here, and it seems to be happening to a lesser extent on my work cell (iPhone 12) 2) I miss UA-cam Vanced and Adaway; well, vanced is dead but revanced lives on. You could have a truly ad free experience on android. 3) I have a secondary work iPhone for iMessage/FaceTime related needs. 4) browser texting was killer! 5) google assistant. I legit cannot stand Siri. 6) iOS just feels so… lazy. I really don’t like having to wait for slow-as-molasses animations to finish doing their thing before I can tap on, and of course, there’s no way to change animation speeds outside of “reducing motion” in accessibility which makes using your phone feel like a windows movie maker project. 7) need. That. Call. Screening. I have to answer every call that comes my way in my current position.
Many people are shocked when they learn how many devices I have, literally phone/tablet/watch from each ecosystem, MacBooks, laptops, etc.. Having so many devices to tinker with and use daily, I’ve actually come to love the experience with Google Pixel devices and Chromebooks/Tablets.
i don't really see the problem with file transfer. as an android user who takes some photography on the go and who uploads bank statements and email documents on the phone, it's literally just plugging the phone in and transferring whatever files or photos you need. if it's on a google app, just log in on ur pc and it's there.
One of the best reviews, not focused on specs but purely on everyday use. Mike, you are a legend mate! I made the switch too albeit from the iPhone 13 Pro..
That's a lot of "in my opinion" even in objective comparison. When comparing 15x zoomed in photos.. it's quite easy to see what phone resolved in more details..
Will love an update video on the pixel usage. How are you finding the physical size different? Personally would love a pro Android device the size of the iPhone 14 Pro.
I also use both an iPhone and Android. The iPhone is a tool that I use Mon-Thur for work and my Ultra from Fri-Sun as my fun phone. I'm deep into the Apple ecosystem to the point I couldn't switch to Android 100%.
The transcription only works with people who mainly use 1 language. If you’re from areas that speak multiple languages, you often mix them. Software doesn’t understand mixed languages
For your photo & file transfer issue with MacBook/Android phones. I use Google Drive and Photos on my browser and it works really well and is not a hassle(at least for me). Good review, keep it up love the content!
@@ScottADunn I've been using Pixels since the first one and am considering switching from Windows to a Mac again, so Photos and Drive was my potential solution too. Google Photos' flexibility is so useful!
@@rick98765 I have a mac and android phone. Been having this setup since 2011 and never had issues especially since I have microsoft one drive and google photos
It's good that you added a camera test for social media apps. I've always leaned towards the iPhone when it comes to this specific genre because they integrated their apps well enough that you won't have to think your photo/video quality results will turn out bad. Hope to see more of this on your future smartphone comparisons.
It's literally night and day. The display on the 7 Pro is just incredible, miles away from the 6 Pro. Very pleasing colors and much brighter. But even the Microphone and audio experience is greatly improved. And the hazel color with the new camera bad design just looks gorgeous. It just screams elegance and style.
The changes are more than just subtle, and why do some people comment, "it is what that should have been"? No it isn't, the Pixel 6 is what it was supposed to be. Is the iPhone 14 Pro Max what the 13 Pro Max should have been? *NO!*
From someone who used an iphone for 5 years, starting 2017, I was surprised how android matured in years and now I enjoy using it. It just has all the features I need and looks different too. I am not saying iphone is bad but android this year is refreshing.
Nice real world review! I'll be switching back to Android. I just use Google for photos, contacts, etc. Makes it pretty simple to go back and forth. I prefer the fingerprint sensor to Face ID and no reason in this day and age not to have both. Way back when I had a Nexus 6P, used face unlock at home and fingerprint sensor everywhere else. Just set the location and it was seamless. Pretty annoyed with Apple's "We Know Best" attitude towards consumers.
Great video! Also if you account for international pricing (at least Europe, but I think other areas have the same) the Pixel is massively cheaper... The iPhone 14 Pro Max 128GB MSRP here is 1449€ vs only 899€ for the Pixel 7 Pro 128GB, so it's a no brainer really unless you're stuck in the Apple ecosystem
I need to change my phone soon and I really like the Pixel 7 Pro. But my issue with it is that I feel that Samsungs phones performs a bit better. I like the UI on the Pixel much better, but the camera (specially in the video department) is more rounded on the Samsung. I also use the Dex feature more than I thought and that also makes my decision tougher.
It does and goodlock rocks... they just added registar module to open apps or do things like taking screenshots or mute all sounds or access Google voice assistant or turn on or off live captions or more and you can also do it with side key...with Goodlock Navstar you can brink notification panel down or turn screen off or on or take screenshots by clicking a button on navigation bar
I stick with Android in general because of the ecosystem - my work requires Windows, so I use Windows at home as well, which means no Apple laptop and therefore no Apple anything. On the other hand, I might stick with Android anyhow because I have a real problem (and it is more a gut reaction than a reasoned out reaction) with the closed nature of Apple products. I guess I'm just a rebel at heart and never really got over the 60s lol. I stick with Pixel (I have owned a Pixel since the first generation) because I like getting plain Android, no bloatware from Samsung or others. Not that Samsung doesn't have some very nice features, but not worth it to me. The integration with the phone is why I will probably buy a Pixel watch for my next watch when it is time instead of sticking with Samsung (currently wearing Galaxy Watch 3).
Yes I agree! There is a rebel part to it, I like to be different lol and I like what Google's version of Android brings. The features are great all the AI and machine learning features and the Assistant are so helpful! And after using this voice dictation it would be hard to even switch to Samsung. One thing I noticed Mike mentioned though was 'hate from each side'. Android fanboys are primarily that way because of Apple fanboys at least most of them anyway. The hate mainly started because of the "high class" "I'm better than you because I have Airpods pods, and you're broke because you have android" people.
@@micahjohnson9184 the google AI is bar none the best and is even used in facial recognition for google photo and even in the nest outdoor cams. Nothing comes close to google when it comes to AI and that includes Apple and I own a mac and ipad. I also own samsung phone, nest and chromecast that use google AI
Thanks Mike. I am considering switching to a Pixel 7 Pro after using iPhones from its first gen to now a 12 Pro. I am finding that more of the services if preferred the past are switched from Apple to Google: browser, map, photo, storage, calendar and word processer & spreadsheet. The only thing I will miss is the booking keeping app (Banktivity), which will take me a while to find and migrate to an android alternative (scary). In the past, it has been so seamless to migrate data to upgrade to another iPhone, I don’t know what to do when transition from an iPhone to a Pixel. Can anyone help? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I have an unlocked North American Pixel 7 pro; a GREAT phone; BUT BUYER BEWARE. Google perhaps stupidly or in a self-defeating manner, blocks 5G connections to much of Europe and Asia. If you are a mobile warrior or professional who travels often.... AVOID this phone as well until Google addresses this outrageous issue. My friends with Iphones and Samsungs do not face the same issues.
Google photos makes getting your photos onto your laptop significantly easier! Also Google messages for web makes getting texts to your laptop and computer a breeze!
To your Magsafe point, companies such a Mous sell a magsafe case for the Pixel. I bought one for my Pixel 7 & and this allowed me to continue using all my magsafe accessories.
I like that in your reviews you actually do sound very impartial/fair and leave it to the viewer to make a personal choice. I was a Samsung owner for 7 years and switched to the iPhone 14 pro max. I am loving it so far. For me, the most significant difference is on how great the apps work on iPhone. They're just more refined. I only miss the 100x zoom of the Samsung, yet iPhone takes great video. Cheers.
pixel 7 pro has much better AI and transcription and translation plus better editing for picture and AI options for calling. Google beats apple when it comes to software imo but Apple definitely best in hardware and software to hardware optimization.
For photos on a Mac, I just set my phone to auto-upload to Google Photos. Just take the pic, click the photo in Photos on the web, then drag it wherever you want it. It's so easy, I do this with all my phones and devices regardless of platform.
As a owner of the S22 Ultra, I'd really like to see a good comparison to the Pixel 7 Pro. I personally think those are the 2 best Android devices currently
I have had an iPhone for almost 8 years now (6s then the 11), but I am thinking to go to the pixel because... honestly? I absolutely hate the iPhone's photo storing system. I remember an old Android I had years ago, and if I put a photo in an album, it would actually go into that folder and not show up on the 'camera roll'. We have thousands of pictures, screenshots etc these days and it's a pain in the arse scrolling through all of it to find something that you didn't duplicate into an album. I just want it to be organised. Plus I love Google photos, it's so much easier to get all my photos in one place rather than having to have a secondary app. Thanks for your review, makes me feel better about making the switch.
Objectivity, I like it Mike. It also gives you a chance to provide perspectives on & from both sides, i.e. Android & Apple & that it is nice to see. And I like & the fact that you acknowledge that you have tried & tend to switch back & 'n forth & that you are not a 'fan boy' of any one particular brand or phone is really awesome. I have always used Android myself because I don't want to get deeply intertwined into any 'ecosystem' & I just bought & will be switching over the Pixel 7 very soon.
Yeah I think it's important to not become too entrenched in one ecosystem or the other. Switching wasn't as hard as I expected. Even the eSIM wasn't bad
If I'd made up a drinking game of shotting every time he says "do/does a good/better/fantastic job" I'd be in an ambulance after the first half. Mike, you have to work on phrasing and using more synonyms to not be so repetitive.
I was an Android user for years and now the last 2 years an iphone user. The main thing for me has been the notifications. The way iOS handles these is absolutely horrible. I have never missed more notifications than since switching to the iphone. Always on now helps a bit. But it just stays really annoying as how apple handle these vs android. I really do miss android there.
I agree. Switched to iPhone and Apple Watch a year ago. The watch makes the notifications even worse. Got rid of the watch fast. My iPhone 14 Pro paired with a Withings Scanwatch reduced that notification pain a lot.
The only thing what still holds me into this love/hate relationship with Iphone is the extremely easy Face-ID authentification in all apps where secure authentification is needed - banks, social insurance etc. How does Pixel7 Pro performs in this field?
You're wrong. We have 2FA for anything. Just requires a pass code for Google authentication. If anyone ever can get my password and my email, along with my multiple devices yeah. It's impossible to lose or change anything in your account with android security
Hi Mike, great comparison. I've not been on iPhone since I switched to Google's Nexus then Pixel. I'm now on Pixel 7 Pro and the main reason is I'm on Google ecosystem everywhere even on my MacBook. But you forgot one important point, it's the resale value you sacrifice on Android. Even with the Pixel, it doesn't come close to the resale value of iPhone. Customers need to think about the actual cost of usage, like for a car, and not the initial acquisition price. If you upgrade phone often like every one or two years, the net cost of ownership will be far cheaper with iPhone even if you paid an heavier price when buying new; because the resale value is much better (or the depreciation is much less if you prefer). The real cost of the difference between initial acquisition cost and price of resale on the second market (minus also cost of maintenance but that's more for cars than smartphones). There's always a big demand and market for even a 3 years old iPhone. Not so much for any Android, including high end Samsung or Pixel.
Which conversely means that you can get a 1 year old Android for much less money than a 1 year old iPhone. My friend just bought a Samsung Galaxy 21FE for $350 very slightly used. That's a really good price for a phone that blows most $400 devices out of the water, save for maybe the Pixel 6A. Also, the overwhelming majority of the population does not upgrade every year or two.
I bought a Pixel 2, 5 years ago. Then I was able to switch to Pixel 3 then 4 then 6 without spending anything. I even made money every year by changing! The solution ? Buy second hand and wait for the best deals. This year, I won a Pixel 7 in a contest. I will make money by selling my Pixel 6.
Great video! Would love to see a video on your setups to switch back and forth between OSs so frequently. I too have both and switch occasionally, but have not found good ways to do so other than just cutting my loses (although I have found it's easier to switch from Android to iOS than vice versa)
I use a S22+ and it's great for my needs. I prefer the flat screens over curved, love the super fast fingerprint scanner, and fast wired and wireless charging. I switched from an iPhone this year and was afraid of the bloatware and other things mentioned about Samsung but I don't see any problem. If I had to be picky, I don't really prefer the oversaturated photos on the S22+. I much rather prefer the natural colors like you mentioned. As for Facetime, I still use an iPad/Mac so I haven't had problem connecting with my family :) I'm curious why you chose the P7P over the S22+!
I think there is something fundamentally wrong with our species if we feel the need to get overly defensive about anything let alone phones. It's like people really have this desperate need for belonging and way too much time on their hands. Sad. Great video btw.
Been stuck in the Google ecosystem since 2010/11 aside from me being not so big on apple, and how their earlier iphones were so limited in customizable features for the longest time. That's why I've stuck with android. I got the pixel 7 Pro, and it's the best android experience I've ever had, yes, that's including OnePlus, with my last two phones being the OP6 and OP 8t+ (still have that one, just it's my backup on a secondary line now)
I'm so glad to see this comment as I'm coming from a OP 8T as well! Any regrets at all from the switch (even though I know you still use both technically lol)
@Damian Wójcikiewicz my very first Android flagship phone was the Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant) i have fond memories of those days. Had a few other Samsung devices, like the S7 Edge. It was always a juggle between them and LG and their G line. Then i went with Oneplus with the 6 being my first. Of the three major brands before my Pixel, OnePlus was my favorite. But Samsung has always been solid, my only issue with them is their heavy UI over Android
How do you manage the switch with the cloud things? Photos, calendar, contacts. I tried to switch from years of Android usage to Apple several times. Always ending with using Google’s apps on the iPhone.
The Pixel 7 Pro is just a "smarter" phone. Magsafe is just a magnet and you can get that in a case or the adhesive rings for the Pixel. And, yes, the Dynamic Island is a cool feature but how can that be compared to an AI that keeps getting better?
Apple have put so many hooks in their ecosystem that it's a real nightmare to switch even a single device, like a mobile phone, to a non-Apple product. You lose the convenience of the MacOS photos app, iMessage, web form autopopulate from SMS, iCloud passwords, use of Apple Watch, and the list goes on. The only way Google, Microsoft, and Samsung have been able to compete is to build out their own comprehensive ecosystems, but they're still years behind Apple.

As a die hard Android user I must admit I prefer the rounded design opposed to the squared one. I know it might be controversial, but I still prefer rounded designs. Even for the iPhones I much preferred the iPhone 11 design as opposed to the squared off design from the 12 onwards. I hope Google makes a compact Pixel design like my Pixel 5, so I can replace it when it stops getting updates.
Agreed. People make too much fuss - it's a tool. Somewhere in there brand loyalty turned into a thing - neither are perfect, and some things one does way better than the other. I've gone back and forth between the two as well. iPhone's integration wins hands down - which makes sense because of the control over the ecosystem. The openness of the Android platform, and Google's specific control over its Pixels make them fantastic! Unfortunately, there's no mash up of the two cause that'd really be a perfect phone.
It's a tool, except you have to consider what platform you're choosing and how it affects the world's ecosystem. Have you ever considered why hosting a few MB of files costs developers 30%, or why HDMI adapters for idevices are $60+ (I get ~2 to 6 of them for that price depending on where I buy) Or that all devices and cables have to be certified (I find it hilarious that battery packs that advertise that they're for iDevices still use microusb/type C because of the "apple tax")? Are you okay with their outright lies in advertising (most egregious: the siri ads) and press releases (privacy? LOOOOL)? Or how anti-3rd party repair they are? Or how they're okay with slowing down your phone due without telling you why so you just buy a new $1000+ phone instead of a $50 battery replacement? Buying into them means you tacitly agree that all of these are acceptable behaviors.

The 15 pro drops a bit more over a year (92%). Still happy with both but the S23U is a revelation after owning only Apple products since the iPhone 3G >
Hello there, great video! I want to add a very big difference for who live in EU: the price for the iPhone 14 Pro here is 1339€ vs the 899€ for the Pixel 7 Pro. Also, Google mostly "gift" coupon and, actually, if you have a 20% off the price for the Pixel 7 Pro is 'only' 719€, that is like the half of the price of the iPhone, no way! 😀
the only problem here is... pixel performance is really poor... from the time you launch the camera, the app crashes, and os freezes... it is something you dont see so freq from an iphone... thats probably the biggest adv here. iphone performance is butter smooth... pixel is so annoying when it lags so bad. i am on a pixel 7 pro after a year... ill get now the iphone 15 pro max.... ill miss some of google editing tools and features but ill gain for sure a non nerve breaking phonewhen i pick the iphone 15 pro max.
Great comparison! I wish you also covered the best camera for people with shaky hands ...that's a big issue for me and would be the deciding factor between the two phones. I am using a Galaxy S10, I know it's pretty old, but I really enjoyed using it after I switched over from an iPhone. I am usually happy with the picture quality but I do have to keep very still. Husband had iPhone 12 and I had the same issue with that one too when it comes to taking pictures. Only people with shaky hands will know what I mean ...
4:56: Switching photos. -Regardless of whether you stick with Apple or Android phone, download Google Photos app for iPhone and have your photos instantly back up to google photos on chrome? In case you're curious, I use Macbook Pro for computing, but Pixel for photos/video, etc.
Great rundown of the two tech giants mobile platforms. Growing up on technology out west it’s hard for me to pick favorites. All these companies fostered a love and passion in my own will. You nailed it about diversification of what to use. I own multiple apple products including an iPhone for my personal use. I justified getting a GoogleFi plan with a new Pixel Pro to use as a business number for my LLC and also a way to utilize a back-up connectivity resource for my Google Home automation. Luckily I get the best of both worlds but you can’t go wrong with either. They both just want your business which is why the Apple/Android revelry will always restrict some cross comparable conveniences like airdrop and assist features. Cheers!
I have a Pixel 6a coming. I currently have an iPhone 14 Pro. I want to see if I can get back to a sub $500 phone. My laptop is MacBook Air M2 and I use my iPad mini M1 everyday. I like your reviews. I will be following your experience with your Pixel.
I'm currently using the 6 pro and waiting on my upgrade to the 14 pro max to arrive. I've always used android so I decided to finally give apple a try. Even if I don't end up enjoying it much, I'll take it as a learning experience as what not to get in the future. Heard a lot of positives though so I'm hopeful it'll do its job well. *edit* 1 month later and I’m regretting not trying iOS sooner. It’s lacking some of the Android features, but I never used half of them anyway. This phone does everything I need and does it better. Hearing about how good the battery life isn’t the same as experiencing it. It’s changed my daily routine for the better.
It's much easier to make that switch, for the first time, going from android to a more polished os. You'll need a few days to adjust, surely, but you'll love it, I'm sure. Worst thing for me was that "swipe to go back" option, I got used to swipe from left or right hand side of the screen on android, that I still am not used to, on iphone...
only thing bothering me with iOS is that I can't change settings in the app itself, i have to close the app and open the "Settings" menu and dive in there. Pretty much my only complaint. MacOS however, don't even get me started 😂
You are going to love it! I added as many good features as I could like my Google keeps and Google calendar/assistant. But I do miss my Google discover feed. I was an android user for the last 16 years and loved it. I made the switch to the iPhone 14 pro max after being plagued with bugs and signal issues on the P6 Pro. I’m happy with the switch. The Apple Watch is a thing of beauty and I’m really liking the dynamic island. It’s a smooth experience and the battery life is incredible. Like I went 22 hours off one charge with this thing😮. Maybe back to pixel at some point but for right now I’m enjoying myself.
@@garettlachance7353 you can still use google assistant and calendar on iOS. I use the calendar as a widget and use the assistant for my Philips Hue mostly.
@@_TrueDesire_ have they ever added the feature on iOS so you can say "hey google" to activate Google assistant on the iphone while it's in standby laying on the desk or whatever? A setting to switch the always listening from Siri to Google? Or do you have to physically touch the phone and activate the assistant so it's listening?
I recently purchased the iPhone 14 Pro Max and I’m a Android user .. this is my 1st Apple phone .. I have and love my iPad Air .. it’s wonderful .. as for the iPhone that is a totally different matter .. the 1 thing that I’m having the most difficulty with is gesture back .. on an Android it works basically whenever you swipe .. but with the iPhone it’s a hit or miss .. at times it’ll take you back but other times there may be an arrow in the upper left to take you back (just make it all or both) .. I do miss a fingerprint reader .. and I’m used to once my facial recognition has recognized me the phone opens up .. but NOT with the iPhone .. you have to swipe up (why? or just give me the option in settings to open or make me open it .. .. but I’m waiting for the delivery of my Pixel 7 Pro .. and I’ll pick between the 2 ..
Welcome back to the Android family. For transporting files and things between Mac and Pixel, while Android File Transfer is a surefire way to go, I think the app AirDroid would help. Also, there are cases like one from Encased, or the magnetic ring from Spigen that makes MagSafe technology compatible with devices that don't have it built in.
I was android user, I had in the past Pixel 4XL, until Iphone 13 where I was the change from android to IOS and I enjoy it a lot. I bought iphone 14 pro, and just past week I sold it to change to pixel 7 pro for very similar reasons as you explained in this video, I expect to receive it tomorrow. I 100% agree with you in all you explained here plus some more little extras based on pixel experience and how google is doing all. thank you for your video!
Props to you Mike for being so open minded. I think you've nailed it on the head; some people get really defensive (read: loyal) about their phone preference and you've chosen to rise above all that. Thanks for your unique perspective! P.S. I'm an Android guy.
This has to be the most unbiased review of phones that there is out there. I really like your approach of not trying to prove that one is better than the other when they are both superior pieces of technology that have their own features that they excel at which is one of the best reasons to base one’s choice on. I am an iPhone user because it’s what I’m most comfortable with and I like the design of the operating system and camera in general but there sure are some nice aspects to android that I wish I had. I think if I had the money I would consider owning the Pixel 7 Pro in addition to my iPhone 13 Pro Max and be able to play with both of them perhaps switching on different days or maybe sometimes carrying both but just experiment with the experience of enjoying the superior aspects of one of them some of the time and pick up the other one whenever the mood strikes.
Loved this review, the only thing that kept me from purchasing the Pixel pro was that it's lack of S Pen support. I actually love my S22 Ultra and the quick charge feature as well. Having a 45w USB type c is next to none when it comes to fast charging on the go. iPhone just lacks so many features in which I'm not willing to compromise on especially when it comes to multi tasking and customization. Also, Apple charges too much for everything, like apple music.
Who is forcing you to buy Apple Music? and it’s not more expensive than anything else, I don’t know wtf you’re taking about. Android is lame. Another middleman phone. I like my OS and hardware to be made by the same company. No glitches, lag, bs.
For what it's worth, Google photos works really well. All my photos automatically get uploaded to it. I don't even save photos on my desktop anymore, and I've had zero issues with it.
I want to give Android a shot(Galaxy S23 Ultra) or iPhone 14 Pro Max. I keep the Pixel in the back of my mind as well. The only reason I’m still keeping the 14 Pro Max in mind is that I love how it syncs to my MacBook & I don’t want to buy a new smartwatch to go along with a new phone. I’d love to try new features, but feel that if I switch to Android I’d have to change up everything I do. Good video.
Here's the problem. You're running Android with a Mac. If you think you're going to get any semblance of integration with "hostile platforms" from an idevice... you're not. A *MUCH* better and tighter experience if you use Windows. EG. Nearby Share, Your Phone, etc. etc. For Samsung, it's better, as they have things like DEX / Flow and other continuity solutions for Macs. Yes, you'd have to change up a lot... but Android in general is known for being better at tailoring to your behaviors. Better widget support and placement, better workflow than just "apps on a launcher"
You can use Google Photos instead of airdropping pictures to your laptop. It automatically syncs every photo you take and they're always accessible through any browser
Google Lens is also absolutely bonkers and something that'll become a killer feature for how you use your phone when interacting with the world in future. I feel like a lot of people haven't discovered it yet and started to really get something out of it.
The reason I stick with Google is simple :- 1. Google AI is Simply out of this world. 2. It does little things so well and makes life easy. 3. Small things like call screen, voice to text, hold for me and others are so customer friendly and make life a lot easier. 4. Plus the Camera is ❤️❤️ 5. Features like Magic eraser and other edit options really give photoshop for free on your phone. 6. Haptics (Amazing Haptics)
Great review, and the first person I've seen to bring up social media quality which is something that I feel is underdiscussed. By any chance, can you let me know if there is still the issue where sending Android photos on Messenger results in lower quality photos between Android and iOS? I know this is likely a Messenger issue but honestly it always bothers me when I try to send pictures to friends.
There are way too many helpful and cool features that make it difficult for me to use non-Pixel phones. Only the Z Fold 4 has managed to get my attention hence the reason I have it Now Playing Call screening Hold for me Wait times Direct my call Message transcription Assistant voice typing Recorder app Astrophotography mode Magic eraser Photo Unblur It's hard to appreciate these features till you use other phones. I used the Iphone 14 for a week and I had to return it cos it felt too plain and boring for me. Its high time Apple started putting all that bionic chip power to use. Year in year out, they keep showing us benchmarks with hardly anything exciting. Just shiny marketing ads and new colors with outrageous prices.
@@MikeOBrienMedia That is a good point I hadn't really thought about before. I guess I assumed that since Android came from Google, they wouldn't add stuff to the Pixels that wasn't also at least available to other Android developers and phone makers. Do you have any idea how much of the greatness that is on the Pixel 7 is just not available to other phones running the same version of Android? Not necessarily specifics, although if you know some, that would be great, but even a rough percentage of features would be interesting.
Hi Mike ! I used to be a fan boy for apple. Apple 4-7 But hen I had a problem with the 7+ and of course everyone found out that Apple was throttling the older Iphones and thats when I went over to Samsung and to be honest I've never been happier !
I too like you. With Android till 2017 and switched to IOS. In Apple world for four years till March this year. Then switched to Android. Switching is a little bit annoying but as I depend mostly on Google apps it's not that much a hurdle for me. I use Google Photos, Google Messages, Google Phone etc in IOS and Android so I don't loose any thing like contacts, photos, videos etc Only issue I had was with WhatsApp chat history but I think they are now providing official support for migration of chat history.
Just made the switch for my personal to the Google pixel pro first android since 2014. I do still use the iPhone for work use. 2 days in pretty incredible!
Nice, fair commentary, thank you! I have an iPhone 13 pro Max, which I purchased early this year, and I recently purchased a Pixel 7 pro: I love both of them and will keep and use both.
Hellow! Need a suggestion mate. I need to upgrade my phone. But i'm really confused which phone is really perfect for me! Especially for photography and battery backup. So which one i should to buy? 14 pro max or 7 pro??
@@rockersfahad4638 Greetings! To be totally honest, I really can't tell a difference between photos taken on my iPhone 13 pro Max and my Pixel 7 pro; both phones yield stellar results. I don't take a lot of videos, but the consensus opinion is that iPhones produce superior results, if that matters to you. Best of luck choosing a phone: I think with either I've discussed here, you can't go wrong for photography.
Well said. I've been on iOS and heavily invested in Apple's ecosystem since the 5s with a Samsung Note here and there, and I just wanted something different when it came time to upgrade. So far I'm loving the Pixel 7 Pro.
Great video! Personally I wish a Z Fold 4 because I really interested at or exclusives features + love One IU. Pixel products aren't avalible here in Brazil and Apple is just insanely expensive in here, like more than US$2000 for a 14 Pro, no bloody way.
Fold is overpriced and overrated...no dust protection, no WQHD+ SCREEN RESOLUTION DISPLAY, Gotta pay $60 for inferior S Pen with no Bluetooth and its very fragile...get a S22 Ultra
My first smart device was an 8gb iPod 4th gen. My mom had a 32gb version which I just plugged in and turned on as I type this. Anyway, my parents got iPhone 4's and that's when they gave me an iPod. At some point they got 5's and then I got one of the 4's. Then the 6 came out and we all upgraded. Then many years passed, and my parents upgraded to the 8 Plus, but I stayed at 6 because Touch ID, aux port, and I like smaller phones(foreshadowing). We kept our phones that way until 2020 when I upgraded to the amazing iPhone SE which kept the Touch ID but in the weird way like the 7/8 did. I got used to it and was very happy with my phone. Then just last week my mom starts talking about upgrades and switching because loss of fingerprint and etc. We all did our own research and picked our phones. My dad has an iPhone 14 Pro, I took the Pixel 7 Pro which came with a free pixel watch, and my mom took the S23 Ultra and a galaxy watch 5. I am liking the phone so far; I am sad to leave the apple ecosystem especially the Airpods open case thing unless that works on the Pixel phone somehow. I never used mag safe because nothing I own has it so thats fine by me. I like the new camera especially since none of my devices have ever actually had a good one. The size is a lot to handle but the resolution is great. I have about 3 weeks to get everything swapped over. Also, I just dug out my old 6s and its battery expanded and further cracked its already cracked screen. The iPods both still work but the 6s died.
As always....balanced and logical. I used the P6P as my daily driver last year and now am working the P7P as my daily driver. I think I will always be Android and because of that will always be Pixel because it is pure and clean. Essentially the iPhone of Android. I totally respect your approach. Well done. Solid review.
So youre basically saying youre switching because thats what you actually do every year.
Mike there are a TON of Magsafe compatible case maker options available for Android. Like PEAK Design, Mous, Moment Cases. Etc.
@Damian Wójcikiewicz enjoy the bugs, the lag, the shocking customer service and the 1 year of Moto updates. There’s more to phones than cold specs.
@Rohan Chandra Nagaladinne I understand that, but saying that a Moto is an equivalent proposition to a flagship is just silly.
I have installed gboard on my iphone and i switch between keyboards quiet frequently. But yeah I know how gboard is greater than the default keyboard
@@whenhen Only in certain areas when it's not cloudy and weather is almost ideal. In addition to that, the service is free only for a limited time.
Facts.
@@itz_syr0nix998 there is no jailbreak. You don't use any 3rd party or need to install any software to do so.
It's so refreshing to see someone bounce between android and apple , im an android user always just not really into apple
Too restricted. Only thing Apple is good at is updates and storage. Give me Android any day of the week
It's also less bloatware compared to other Android devices.
@Benjamin Jagun can you define ‘polished’ and ‘reliable’. I have a iPhone & a Z Fold 3 and I do not share the sentiments.
Googlesphere, sounds like you have issues

This was great all around. Totally respect your closing statement. I'm not brave enough to do the same (way locked into Android personally), but I love that you're willing to change things up to have a wider perspective.
Personally I own an iPhone 14 Pro Max, S22 Ultra, and now today just got my Pixel 7 Pro. I love every single one of them. The iPhone definitely has the better Speakers and Battery, the S22 is better for watching content on and is just fun to use (especially with that S Pen), and the Pixel just feels the best in the hands, has the better camera, and is just extremely reliable.
Such an underrated and professional UA-camr! My absolute go to for a quality perspective on new tech. Keep it up man 👌
Thanks! I'm happy you liked the video
I switched from the s22 to the pixel and couldn't be happier. I'd never buy another Samsung
It is hard to describe, you just have to experience it
I switched from a Galaxy S9+ to the Pixel 7 Pro. Its super smooth, very reliable, lightweight and gives a lot more user freedom which is what you want from an Android device.
that's what I noticed also with the switching, I feel more that iOS is the one which is trying to catch up
It's sooooo nice to see tech reviewers take social media apps camera performace into consideration!!!

Which case?
Or could it be you're loving the P7 more bc it's newer to you?
@@Ahkila_Reactsno, it's just a better phone
I went from a pixel user up until the pixel 5 and then switched over to iPhone, the pixel 6 brought me back and I just upgraded to the pixel 7 Pro.
@@jason84 how is your experience so far? Any noticable differences between the 6 and 7?
I’ll let you know what I think, but for me, it comes down to a few things:
1) frustrations with iOS 16. UI bugs have become a norm here, and it seems to be happening to a lesser extent on my work cell (iPhone 12)
2) I miss UA-cam Vanced and Adaway; well, vanced is dead but revanced lives on.
Not a word about the resolution/type of screen/nits/refresh rate? Would have like you talking about it, a tiny bit.
You need your own channel
i don't really see the problem with file transfer. as an android user who takes some photography on the go and who uploads bank statements and email documents on the phone, it's literally just plugging the phone in and transferring whatever files or photos you need. if it's on a google app, just log in on ur pc and it's there.
I just upgraded from the iPhone 7 plus to pixel 7 i am loving it i feel new phones are really heavy the reason I didn't got for pixel 7 pro

It's good that you added a camera test for social media apps. I've always leaned towards the iPhone when it comes to this specific genre because they integrated their apps well enough that you won't have to think your photo/video quality results will turn out bad. Hope to see more of this on your future smartphone comparisons.
The Pixel 7 Pro is a fine upgrade from the Pixel 6 Pro, despite the subtle changes, I think it is what the 6 should have been originally.
that just like saying the iPhone 14 Pro is what the 13 Pro should have been
Everything is what it should have been…😅
It's literally night and day.

I also use the Dex feature more than I thought and that also makes my decision tougher.

tech is so diverse and so good nowadays so why should we stick with just one specific brand... we have options and that's what all matters.
Pixel 7 pro is a bad azz phone you just have to try it if you haven't already
Pixel: Advanced AI and actually useful stuff.
iPhone: Charging and A Display cut out lmao
When you put it that way...

Totally agree. Android wins here! Notifications just horrible on iOS
@@jsdowling1989 damn the hostility. A big fat “your wrong” right out the gate
POV: You just studied a chapter of economics
Samsung trade in is fantastic
@@whenhen Fools Edition is not great but yes no need to upgrade every year

How's the telephoto portrait mode? I heard it's really grainy and like someone maxed out the clarity slider. Plus video call and recording softness

Pixel doesn’t wirelessly charge as quick as magsafe tho 🤭 & nobody cares about the phone being smarter if it overheats and has mid battery life.

I feel you. I love my MacBook Pro, but it's a pain with Android. But is it enough to switch to iPhone

Cheers!

You made me find the live caption feature which is absolutely useful for language acquisition!
Apple Music is the same price as all music streaming services?
It's trash
You look like a good reviewer! Im new to this youtube channel..suddenly i took your videos have lot of details about every single things,
The reason I stick with Google is simple :-
1. Google AI is Simply out of this world.
2. It does little things so well and makes life easy.
3. Small things like call screen, voice to text, hold for me and others are so customer friendly and make life a lot easier.
4. Plus the Camera is ❤️❤️
5. Features like Magic eraser and other edit options really give photoshop for free on your phone.
6. Haptics (Amazing Haptics)
I am a Pixel owner, but the iPhone haptic engine is honestly way stronger.
@@somtrip I feel like Pixel 6 and 7 pro had at least on par haptics with iphone, before that they were a disaster.
I made the same jump from the 12 to the pixel 7. Happy so far.
Thanks for that honest review. I watched one video, I subscribed.
There are way too many helpful and cool features that make it difficult for me to use non-Pixel phones. Only the Z Fold 4 has managed to get my attention hence the reason I have it
Now Playing
Call screening
Hold for me
Wait times
Direct my call
Message transcription
Assistant voice typing
Recorder app
Astrophotography mode
Magic eraser
Photo Unblur
It's hard to appreciate these features till you use other phones.
Yeah people like to call it a pure android, but clearly Google added their own brand of spices to pixel's UI!
Actually S22 Ultra has most of those features as well as goodlock
@@bonniew1992 almost all on Samsung especially through goodlock
It's because Crapple doesn't do anything much with power
Yeah really enjoyed you’re perspective man, feel the same way, use both and enjoy both like you
Hi Mike ! I used to be a fan boy for apple. Apple 4-7 But hen I had a problem with the 7+ and of course everyone found out that Apple was throttling the older Iphones and thats when I went over to Samsung and to be honest I've never been happier !
Samsung throttle older phones too 🤣
@@Gamer_85
Haha Exactly this!
(Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra user here, my device hasn't been throttled O/)
@@Gamer_85 My OLD samsung 9s+ hasn't been yet
I was waiting for a review like this from you. You made some good points!!
I too like you. With Android till 2017 and switched to IOS. In Apple world for four years till March this year. Then switched to Android. Switching is a little bit annoying but as I depend mostly on Google apps it's not that much a hurdle for me. I use Google Photos, Google Messages, Google Phone etc in IOS and Android so I don't loose any thing like contacts, photos, videos etc
Only issue I had was with WhatsApp chat history but I think they are now providing official support for migration of chat history.
Just made the switch for my personal to the Google pixel pro first android since 2014. I do still use the iPhone for work use. 2 days in pretty incredible!
Can I have your iphone 14 pro?
@@gisforfun Thanks mate. So should i go for 14 pro max?
Well said. I've been on iOS and heavily invested in Apple's ecosystem since the 5s with a Samsung Note here and there, and I just wanted something different when it came time to upgrade. So far I'm loving the Pixel 7 Pro.
super honest review, thanks so much man!
@Damian Wójcikiewicz :/ it's so strange, world have 193 country's and Google sale Pixel line in 20 (?). I'm think its absurd and disrespectful.
