Nice video comparison Anthony. I think your key points are right on. I would say that Hilton has the best cards. Hyatt has the best program. Marriott has the best hotels and resorts. The only point I would add is that if you are a Hyatt Globalist that one of the key uses for the World of Hyatt consumer or business card is to help qualify for Globalist because when you get to full Globalist, the program features such as waived resort and parking fees and Suite Upgrade Awards give you supersized value over an above the great redemption value of Hyatt points.
Agreed, the Hilton Surpass is a far better earner and of course the FNC is uncapped compared to the WOH card. Even if you value HH points at 0.5 CPP, getting 3% on groceries, gas, restaurants, 2% on online purchases, and 1.5% everything else on a points earning card is strong in of itself. Not to mention automatic Gold status given on the card that gives you daily food and beverage credits which drives the value of the card even higher. Paired with the Aspire, it truly is an unrivaled hotel card combination.
Well, if you spend $15k you start with 2 free nights and 11 elite nights... for me, that helped me reach 40 nights so it was worth it. I got 4 club access awards, a 3rd free night, guest of honor certificate and a suite upgrade award. Without those 11 nights I would have been at 29... miss 3 free nights, miss guest of honor, miss suite upgrade award. So depending on your natural travel patterns the card can work for you. But yeah it's definitely not for everyone.
@@druiz012 Thanks for sharing, that does sounds pretty good, but you have to be all-in on your spend on the card it seems. I just meant that regular earnings from a CSR gets 3X points on dining etc. it adds up quicker.
@@FreedomFinanceFun That’s if you pay for Hyatt stays, sure. The point is you earn more with other categories on a standard Chase card, and transfer points to book Hyatt which is where the real value is.
One of these days, I'll see something at Hilton that draws me in. For now, Gold status from the Platty is good enough. Hyatt is such a wonderful transfer partner and the spend required to earn free nights on the non-branded Chase cards is second to none. I honestly don't want to renew Marriott cards with the FNA hassles. Gimme my Hyatt point transfers and we're good.
I used my free night at the Hyatt House Shabuya in Tokyo... it was $547 a night cash... obviously thats not normal but Hyatts in Tokyo arr expensive so it was a good use of points and my free night.
CPP with Hyatt increases significantly once you become a Globalist; standard room point redemptions become suites and you can factor in free breakfast, free parking, and no resort fees.
Why have the Hyatt card?? It's not a very good card. bottle of water status. You earn almost the same with a saphire reserve and being a member of the hyatt rewards program . We currently are using the surplus to support our Aspire with the GC. Using 5th night free, we recieved 1.2 cents per point at a waldorf this summer Point earnings power with Hilton cards are unmatched in the travel game. For those who cant use them I used a gift card in a Hilton this month
Surpass is a much better points earning work horse, especially to $15k with FNC. However, Hyatt personal is not bad to $15k with the free night, milestone reward free night and the Elite night credits. I have both but prefer Hilton hotels over Hyatt. I think Hilton has more consistent brand stays overall. This is coming from a Hilton Diamond and Hyatt Globalist. If Hilton would have free stays on parking and upped the F&B credit to match inflation I think Hyatt would be in a lot of trouble.
Re: the bonus portion of the Hyatt SUB you earn 1 extra point on otherwise non bonus spend. Even if you get all the extra points, you're actually only getting 45,000 as a bonus since you earn 1 of those 2 bonus points regardless. Chase' wording is straight up deceptive.
@@LK_EBMnot really considering the break even factor between the Amex Gold annual fee compared to the Hilton Surpass annual fee. With a $175 annual fee difference and factoring in around 10 HH points as your max floor for the Amex Gold assuming you can time a transfer bonus, you'll have to spend over $5,000.00 more on the Gold to break even compared to the Surpass with a lower annual fee and an uncapped FNC with $15,000 of spend.
@@LK_EBM The Gold would not earn better for me given the annual fee and I would not organically use the credits. This is especially considering that, though I would not use the Gold’s credits, I would use the credits of the Surpass.
I only have Marriott boundless as hotel credit card since I find value more on flying than staying at a hotel. Maybe it’s just me😅. I usually just stay at airbnbs and once in a while I stay at luxury hotels but not sure if it is enough for me to get invested to hotel credit cards.
Hilton is .65 to me, but Hilton has the fifth night free on rewards bookings, so it can be much higher. I just like the card and the quarterly credits make the card a +$50 before you do a thing (can always get a gift card).
Nice video Anthony. I have the Hilton Aspire - best hotel card IMO and what works for me. Hyatt card while it gives you annual FNC Cat 1-4, you are seeing more and more Property Category devaluations every year
I'm new to trading, and I've lost a good sum trying out strategies I found in online tutorials. I would sincerely appreciate any recommendations you have
i have the surpass, but im considering downgrading it to the base version. simply because they took away the spending to diamond status. now it's only base pts that count towards diamond progress. multiplier pts are now considered bonus pts. then i plan to apply for hyatt simply for the free night to cover the annual fee. and at some point add CSP to transfer the UR pts from the chase trifecta im setting up now.
Surpass is good for two things. Churning out the SUB and upgrading to a second Aspire. It's okay for a card to use for Gas and Grocery if you have nothing better that transfers out I guess, but I think about the opportunity cost of not just turning it into another Aspire down the road.
Those food credits are cool for gold status, but they charge you extra for each person in the room so it is balanced out in the price. I just booked a room and if i had booked for 4 people it was $213 a night but if i booked for 3 people it was $197 for the night.
I don't have the Hyatt card but will once I am under 5/24. But already know the Surpass will still be the king in the wallet. Better earner and the $15k UNCAPPED free night makes it the easy winner. Both welcome offers get you pretty close though (even without the 2nd bonus level on Hyatt) to 2 free nights of stays which isn't bad. But the Surpass definitely has easier welcome to hit.
I really like both cards and they have given me great value. To me the Hilton Card gives you better value upfront and the $200 back in gift cards is great! Thank you Anthony!
Great video, Anthony. One thing that I believe that you didn't talk about much is how the Hyatt card can give you additional free nights when you spend above that initial $15K. This is somewhat useful. Oh, but I can confirm that Explorist status, in my opinion across three different Hyatt brands across three different countries (Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam) is almost meaningless in terms of room upgrades. You will get "upgraded" but it is nothing significant. Hilton Gold will get you upgraded more often and free breakfast as you have duly noted.
I would also like to add if it was unclear that I much prefer Hilton over Hyatt in terms of their credit card. I may cancel my Hyatt card sometime in the future.
Award availability with Hyatt has recently become very difficult. Even if you’re flexible with your dates, it still can be challenging to find availability. Hilton surpass is the better card.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it cheaper to book Hilton reservations via the non-refundable option they have online? The whole point of the gift card is to get the value back, but if the prepay rate is $20-$25 cheaper than paying at the property, it defeats the purpose of using the gift card at the hotel for your stay. How would you best use the gift card in this case? I have a couple of them via surpass credit as well and am actually having difficulty using them due to the above-mentioned reason. PS: Breakfast is free due to the gold status. On-site restaurants is something I avoid because I like to try out local foods. Plus, you can almost always get a cheaper meal from outside as opposed to ordering room service. In addition, not all properties have on-site restaurants. Do you have luck calling them and getting the non-refundable rate on the phone? Is it even possible to get it cheaper via the call?
As Devyn said, yes both hahaha. Coming up on 4 years soon so I’ll get a new CSP welcome offer again when that time comes! Thanks Mr. Hawaiiboy and Devyn!
Surpass mogs. WoH is a waste of 5/24 imo. Not getting the cat 4 cert in year 1 and the very weak SUB is tough. Discoverist status is so easy to get (if you aren't staying 10+ nights in Hyatts anyway, why are you looking at Hyatt credit cards?) and so low value it hardly means anything. Only edge case I could see where the WoH might be better is if you have a TON of personal spend and are going for Globalist. The milestone rewards are pretty good.
Two biggest points you missed on 1. Hilton is Amex meaning there are plenty of places they are not accepts so those multipliers do not matter if you cannot even use your card (especially overseas) 2. Hyatt points are so much more valuable. As one viewer pointed out a "nice" hotel from Hilton can be as much as 90K points while the same level of Hyatt is usually between 30-45K So the fact that you get all these large multipliers and points awards essentially do not mean anything since your points get cut by 2/3rds when redeemed.. Hilton is nice and it's all preference but again there is a clear winner.. only one of them is accepted literally everywhere and only one of them has a consistent cpp ration.
I have a $50 gift card and tried to use it 2 times, both times with no luck, so I still have the same card in my position, hopefully one day I will use it, or gift it to someone else.
@@MH_6160 First time they told me that I was billed already and there is nothing they can do, 2nd time was told now new procedure, have to call customer service first, than they convert it into something and forward to hotel and etc, in short b/sht like this. No more those cards for me, not worth it, downgraded my card, I have gold thru platinum, wtf I need to pay this card for?
