- If Queen were to release a "best-sounding bootleg" set, you can GUARANTEE that this will be in the top 3! The quality is A+ and completely free of clips, errors, and distortion. The band sounds great, and this is the best I've EVER heard Freddie sing during the "A Night At The Opera Tour" (and the 1975/1976 era). This concert contains an epic performance of Ogre Battle (maybe the best version), and an awesome version of the "Seven Seas Of Rhye!"
I know that everyone wishes Freddie would always hit the high notes that he hits on the studio versions, but I think I remember hearing him say in an interview that, if he were to do that, his voice would be constantly shot, being rendered useless the next day. especially touring and all of that, he kept the preservation of his voice in mind, which is seriously just the smartest thing to do as a touring musician.
great comment, totally agree :)
roger made up for it anyway with his falsetto
Unlike Robert Plant did, waisting and wasteing his voice
Spot on. Too many don't understand this and are too narrow minded to enjoy the novelty of a live performance. What pleasure they get from wanting to hear live the same thing they hear on the LP- i do not understand. Why not listen to the LP then, untill they drop?
Yeah it's great that he sang live with caution. Either way because of live Prophet's Songs he wouldn't be able to sing Innuendo or The Show Must Go On years later
I just love his vocal delivery in this song. The way he changes the agression/power in his phrasing - in all the versions (studio and live), it's just.... Amazing :D
Are you still an active queen fan?
I love how he starts singing the words to death on two legs in the chorus
Happy 40th birthday, Boston Rhapsody! :)
@queenandi Precisely why I love him so much. He wasn't just a technically gifted singer, he had a unique way of bringing songs to life and making you feel them. Very, very few singers can match him in that regard, if you ask me.
I'd love to see how 1986 Freddie would sing this, I feel like he would sing this song perfectly live! :D His voice would just suit it so much
I've always appreciated how Queen would distill their studio stuff for stage and give the song it's own voice and power live.
I also appreciate how Freddie could re-work melodies to conserve his voice and not have the song suffer.
THAT SAID - Prophet's Song live: It never worked for me.
Here, Freddie's "re-works" are more like bail-outs. Basically he just speaks the lead-in to the chorus - maybe Roger could have bolstered that part like he does in other songs. (their "secret weapon" live IMO)
And making the backing trio as continuously heavy as possible with the bar chords and guitar/bass unison ; it's less colored and dynamic than it could have been.
Don't get me wrong, Queen Live in the mid/late 70's is among my favorite music ever.
This is a rare interpretation that leaves me wanting.
Keep in mind, this is before Freddie hit his stride (AKA The News of the World Tour), so had the full version been on the setlist from then on, We would definitely have more versions where he hits the B4s and higher.
Most of their 70s sounds better in the studio honestly.
I agree. Sometimes, if you can't do it right, don't do it.
I love it when he almost growls in the last verse.
What occurs to me is that Freddie is bringing the songs in a very theatrical way. He uses his voice at the most expressive way. More than I ever heard before.
Beautiful perfomance and great phasing! For me, the best live version! Underrated Gig!
"Rrrrruning for to come"
I sometimes wonder what would have been had Queen actually released TPS instead of BoRhap as the lead single of ANATO. I heard they seriously considered it, but they would have cut the vocal improv section from the single version if they did.
Imagine Freddie singing this with his Crazy Tour or early Game Tour voice!
probably wasnt' a commercial song like bo rhap turned out to be, thats my opinion, but great verions anyway tof tps this was
I think it should've been "I'm In Love With My Car." That's a song that teenagers can shake their heads to.
His 1976 (or 70s General) voice is much better than his 80s sound. Even if it got technically more robust it lacked the supple musicality and nuance of the prior decade.
I think it should've been the b-side to Bo Rhap
@@noahcrews9149 i agree, that or love of my life
It just blows my mind how Queen were absolute masters of live performances. They copy the studio delays of Freddie by singing all together. Brian, Roger and Fred. 3 vocalists in fact. Outstanding
The beginning is great!
I hope that the audience recording tape of the previous concert will be released soon.
I dont think so
5:47 listen to that power!
Queen Fan Definite Stuttgart ‘84 vibes at that point.
I felt your upload of Queens show 03-03-77 at the Inglewood Forum ( I was there my first concert a week shy of 11 years of age lol) was the best non official live version till this on
EPIC upload!
The best version after the studio version
Jarred Knox it doesn't have to be close to the studio
@Jarred Knox Marc's live version is the best after studio version
AMAZING instrumentals! Incredible guitars, vocals and impressive backing vocals!
love the intro!!
Roger is ending the song perfectly with his high voice. Rick from QZ here btw :-)
I think you could day from a point of Freddie's voice this could be Queen's best concert ever.
I'd say this beats Tokyo any day, the acapella section is more creative here, his voice is in better shape as well.
I was several days listening to diferents renditions of The Prophet's Song... And I decided that the best version of this song is this one. The second one is the Tokio 4/4/76 gig.
Even the Japanese versions have great vocal delivery.
Thanks!
@Gregsynthbootlegs
Thanks :-) I was an avid bootleg trader once and it's been a while since I listened to this. The quality is outstanding.
2:03 Rrrrrroling R
0:41 Freddie kind of sounds like Brian in the intro!
5:45 man goes off 😩, too bad Brian messes it right after
4:26 4:31 'Death on two legs'?
Une des chansons les plus méconnues du groupe mais une des chansons les plus rock je trouve qui vient juste du meilleur album du groupe mais aussi un des meilleurs albums de rock au monde
Wow! They did't play the second verse! The first time ever i noticed that!
You just earned yourself a suscribe.
there are no great lives versions of this song that i have heard some interesting ones same with march of the black queen, and my fairy king acouple of others too hope great renditions are found and released
Gods
@tjrtherocksponge Yes I read that a lot of times. Wasn't it that on one occasion Queen were handed over the keys of the town by the mayor?
Greg, what is the best version of The Prophet's Song? I need to know!
0:55
At the level of the studio
Defintive version, Maybe Hyde Park? I'm not sure, this song had a 'unique" sound to it live.
@PicKPiT Do you think that's live? I think it's a tape-recording. You can hear Brian touching his guitar during that sound actualy.
Is that a Freddie Falsetto at 5:30??
Is there any chours of this song where he nails it? :)
***** At the Liverpool his voice cracks :(
Stipe Pavić He also messes up the lyrics
Ayy bu da mı vardı :)
Oha benden başka türk var mıdır diye merak ediyordum hem türk hem lgbt'li çıktı ayol :')
