- Political satirist and prolific author P.J. O’Rourke has died at 74. In 1996, O'Rourke briefly joined 60 Minutes as a commentator. About presidential character, he observed: “We don't want somebody in the White House sniffing paint and pawning the Green Room antiques.”
"60 Minutes" is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen's Top 10.

This one hurts. Became aware of PJ in the mid 70's when I began to read the National Lampoon. From there became a lifelong fan. Bought and read every book he ever wrote. Brilliant, insightful and incredibly funny. A huge loss. RIP 🙏

Somehow, Rest in Peace just doesn't seem appropriate for America's funniest political author. As a fellow New Hampshirite, a recovering leftist and someone who's been reading O'Rourke since he wrote for Rolling Stone, I will greatly miss his shrewd political insights, biting satirical wit and general understanding of the human condition.
From the UK at 49 years old, he was my go to humourist as a teenage reader in the 80s.

PJ O'Rourke inspired me to major in Journalism.
20 years later, conservative PJ O'Rourke would endorse Hilary Clinton over Trump.
Trump is that aweful and not a real conservative.Turned off several real conservatives like George Will, Bill Kristol and myself, just to name a few.
That's because Hillary Clinton is more conservative than Trump!

I would like to do a little survey: Since WW2, how would you rate the various US presidents in terms of character? Not with whether or not you agreed with their policies, but with the person as human being. Did anyone stand out to you in terms of their character, good or bad? OK, go!
Eisenhower probably cheated on his wife, but he stood up for Egypt against Britain and France in the Suez Crisis because he thought it was right. Also, instead of scoring points by embracing McCarthyism he worked to shut it down. Those were principled stands.

@@juniorjohnson5961 it's the right wing media's new distraction, since they have to take the heat off of Trump stealing classified government records and flushing some of them down the toilet. Trump thinks his claims of his campaign and presidency being spied on are vindicated, even though that wasn't what was revealed in the filings. The only thing the filing said was someone was charged with lying to the FBI (the same thing many members of the Trump campaign were found guilty of as well). Much like Arizonas Cyber Ninja Audit, conservatives and trumpers are setting their hopes way too high
