Nice video, really enjoyed this! I’ve heard horror stories about Solstice but never have given it a try. I am, however, a big fan of Gaiares, but even I’ll admit that it’s an absurdly brutal shmup. Super GnG is probably the easiest mainline game in the series, but it’s also my favorite. Did you manage to finish up your second loop? Still need to try out Spelunky…
I'd like Gaiares a lot more if the levels were either shorter, or had more checkpoints. Too tedious to go back what feels like 10 minutes just for one mistake! I always considered Ghouls n Ghosts to be the easiest, at least if we're talking the Genesis version. Spelunky is awesome, you definitely gotta check it out! Thanks for watching dude, always a good day when my man Chris drops by!
Oh and I never did beat that second loop! That attempt must've been almost 6 years ago! Playing the game for the video really made me wanna go for it again!
I remember the Spelunky stream! That was a fun watch. Just noticed some of our carrot BS made it into this video. 🤭 Great list, even if it lacks ALF! 💕
That Spelunky stream was fun! Lol I was looking back on the carrot stuff, have L give you some corn next time, corn is the bomb! I already talk about ALF all the time in therapy by the way
This is so awesome man! I really like this list. There is something about the mistique of finishing a crazy hard ass game. I always compare it to reading a book, because its a passive experience... but beating a hard game is like nothing else. I havent beat a single one of these but def put in alot of time in Mars Matrix, Soltice and Gaiares
There really is nothing like it, putting in all those hours, having to restart over and over again just to get a little further, finally seeing the ending is euphoric! Mars Matrix is one I'd love to beat one day, but it feels so much out of my league haha. I can't fathom how people are able to not die at least twice per minute!
Those shoot em ups that punish you for dying by sending you all the way back to the beginning of the level really grind my gears. Just respawn me in the spot I died and gift me a couple seconds of invisible frames, that's all i ask!
Exactly! It's already a fight for your life just to get that far, then one mistake and boom, gotta do all that again! At least in like Gradius you have quite a few checkpoints, and the levels are short. Gaiares has super long levels and only one checkpoint, so frustrating!
For me, the one game that I remember to have driven me absolutely insane have to be Celeste (anything after the main story) I'm at the last 3 levels of the game but I have been losing my mind just playing it. One of the levels that I completed Chapter 7B alone took me 8 hours to clear. 3 hours alone was spent on this one section just dying over and over again just to get the platforming right

NES did make many hard games but in my opinion, SNES and Sega Genesis were more difficult then NES but by a narrow margin
The Genesis had some tough games for sure! Mostly because they almost always had limited continues, which wasn't quite as common on other consoles.
I loved Solstice as a kid... I never beat it😂
mars matrix I had the pleasure of playing it in the arcade... typical quarter dumper lol
Quarter dumper is an understatement! The US Department of the Treasury could fund maybe ~3 hours of Mars Matrix gameplay at the arcade.

Wowee, yeah I wouldn't have the patience for that haha. 8 hours is pretty crazy!
Ive been playing NES games since the systems debut. I have been very little of them on my own without cheats or the game genie.
There are some NES games I'll probably never even try to beat! My blood pressure has limits, LOL
Are you the how to make warm dr. pepper guy?
No... LOL
