A friend of mine wasn’t so lucky - he was stabbed to death by two scumbags - the fatal wound was exactly what Michel mentions here - the femoral artery was hit and he bled to death while the ambulance was on the way …
If you ever see a knife, run like you never have in your life before! Think of how devastated your family will be if you don’t come home - I‘ve seen one family too many go through this.

Excellent breakdown! But this kind of triggers me hard.... I was in a similar situation years ago. I knocked down a guy who attacked a friend and turned away after he was down. . Didn't realize he has a knife out and got stabbed 3 times in my leg from behind. It was pretty close.... After month of recovery a started self defence/ combat sports. Hope this video will help people to avoid such horrible situation. Thanks michiel ✌🏼

Victim knocked him down with the punch, looked away thought it was over when he should have gotten or kicked that knife out of his hand. Stomp smash the hand. Head kick. Rib kick. Or get out of there quick. Use your bag as a shield. Not very helpful friends imo.

    Professor Dr. Stelios Bekiros:
I have lived in the Netherlands, working as an Academic at UvA and VU circa 2007, near Amstelveen area. Being a black belt Jujitsu, yet importantly a certified self-defense sensei, luckily saved me in a similar situation.
Please all kindly read this, I am just modestly conveying my experience ... REGISTER the School asap. FOLLOW teaching, sparring, realistic scenarios, drills. LEARN, LEARN, LEARN. I wish I'd lived nearby, I'd run tomorrow to enlist.

Luckily that guy had no idea how to use a knife. I can’t believe he wasn’t finished off when downed and then disarmed though. I’ve been stabbed before, in the lower left quadrant of my abdomen, and aside from the obvious potential lethality of punctured vital organs / blood loss, people don’t realise the very real possibility of life threatening infection (sepsis) from an unsterilised blade delivered deep into the body.
Edit : Awesome clip and sound advice as always. Thanks man. 🙏🏻

Michel, I love these breakdowns of video attacks that you do. The explanations are great and your advice for counters, etc. are of course, spot on. I think these videos would be 10x more valuable if they were linked to a video where you re-create the attack and demonstrate what to do in these situations; for example in this case, the victim did a good job of blocking the first knife strike, but what would have been the ideal defense/block and counter? Anyway, keep these coming please! Thanks.

Thanks for all the advice man, especially for that popping elbow. What he could also do is blitz guy as soon as he see that popping elbow. You have a window where atacker only has one hand available , the other one is stuck in his pocket or under shirt when he is grabbing the knife. That is what this guy could have done, because adrenaline hit him and he couldn't run away. He is lucky to be alive, and he lets the attacker stand back up. You don't have to destroy a guy with knife but even if he did he wouldnt go to jail in most countries because he was fighting for his life unarmed vs armed in most countries you can destroy armed guy no promblem , but never let the attacker with knife stand back up again Take conciousness or break the leg arm . That is just crazy that he turned his back and guy wasnt even knocked out

I also would suggest for having a equilizer on you. We can't neglect the fact that being at the wrong place at the wrong time can happen. Better ( chanche) safe then sorry. ...7:36, the reaction after the knock down is hard to understand! Maybe he took him not for serious? Maybe drugs in the brain? Normally, when someone attacks you this way with a knife, he has the intention to kill! something you actually can recognize in the subconscious... And of course you are right when you tell to kick the aggressor when he´s on the ground to avoid more attacks... Once a trainer of police told me: "Better get sued from three people (he meant the judges) than get carried from four (he meant the men that will carry your box to the hole)"

Loved your analysis on this. I practice a self defense system but I have no real life experience in this type of situation. But I disagree with you on 1 thing. At 7:38 when the guy knocks him down I wouldn't advocate for him to kick the head (I understand why you said it), I would just say that the guy should of taken control of the knife, using 1 knee to pressure the bicep and another to pressure the head, making it easier to take the knife away from the attacker.

You are extremely vulnerable when you are transitioning from standing to kneeling, your weight transfer is down and your legs are wide open, even if he is still in a daze he can blindly strike out with the knife and it could be game over for you. A stomp or kick gives you superior position and mobility. It doesn’t mean that you kick the guy 20 times. You kick him to render him dazed or unconscious or reduce his mobility allowing you to escape. If he is unconscious you remove the knife, put him in a recovery position, this will show law enforcement that you intent was self protection and not bodily harm ( hopefully)

Wouldn't it be nice if criminals obeyed the laws like victims do. Oh, right, they wouldn't be a criminal if they obeyed laws. Perhaps the laws should be changed to level the playing field, considering a simple obvious fact that law enforcement can't assure everyone will be disarmed. In other words, being armed shouldn't be illegal. Otherwise, only criminals will have the advantage.
