UGK + OutKast + Triple 6 Mafia production = Southern hip-hop anthem that'll stand the test of time. This song ALWAYS hits!
THE SOUF!
Triple? Not "Three"?
@@spr1nttt First mixtape they ever put out, they were Triple 6 Mafia and eventually changed to Three 6 Mafia. It's also an ad-lib/vocal sample frequently used in their songs. 🙂An example, Now I’m Hi (Pt. 2) by Koopsta Knicca.
came here to say this
Reasons why this song is a rap masterpiece:
✔Just the sample and the instrumental itself
✔The way the beat evolves through the song (just the sample for Andre, then the drums get added for Pimp C, then the bass for Bun B, then the main sample gets removed for Big Boi)
✔Each verse is its own story, but the song as a whole describes the evolution of a relationship - from Andre talking about how he's about to get married at the beginning, to Big Boi being bitter about divorce at the end
✔How the visuals in the music video go along with the lyrics, especially for Andre's verse
✔Cameos in the video, from T-Pain as the choir leader, to Chamillionaire as a guest during the reception
Fuck yes, the snare fill before Pimp's verse will never not get me bopping like a mf
Andre's verse on this song is one of my favorite of all time. This and his last verse on Aquemini.
Definitely. The wordplay is so, so good.
I'm sure I'll be downvoted plenty for this but I always listened to the version where they replaced Outkast with Three 6 Mafia (one of the bonus tracks on the CD) just so I didn't have to listen to Andre's verse. Personally I would've just had the track just go straight to Pimp C's verse. Like every single line of Pimp's verse has been sampled numerous times; legendary verse from one of the greatest of all time.
Even the music video was based around Andre's verse. Legendary.
I think pimp c didn't like Andres verse too. I like both
@@p45fanI like the verse but I just wish the drums were there cause it feels like a really long intro
Love it when those drums kick in after 3k’s verse. Just remember though boys - asking you to wear a rubber doesn’t make her a choosy lover.
that verse is clearly intentionally sang from the perspective of a douchebag, just like pusha t's verse on runaway by kanye
frrr that specific part of the song is crazzyy
Willie Hutch was one of the greatest musical minds of his era. I feel like his work was overshadowed by the other artists on Motown at that time, but he wrote, produced, and arranged his music. His compositions have some of the smoothest and melodic arrangements I've heard. And he had one of the most soulful voices. Add all that together, that's why his samples go so hard and have that soul/melodic feel.
Songs like "Int'l Players Anthem" and "Overture of Foxy Brown" that Jeezy sampled in "Don't Do It" show this. A personal favorite of mine is "Easy Does It". And a lot of people don't know he did the song "The Glow" that was in "The Last Dragon".
I share your sentiment about Willie, one of the most underrated Soul artists there is. His album Soul Portrait, in my opinion, is one of the greatest Soul albums ever made.
salute
@@exploitedmind I hadn't listened to much of it before. But I always liked "A Love That's Worth Having". But just listened to a few and it's some nice cuts.

Godly chop, and the drum programming on top of it is immaculate. Gotta be the final boss of Southern beats, or close to it...
If somebody ask me what’s my favorite chops of all time I always say these babies right here. So perfect and clean.
Never realized Juicy J + DJ Paul produced this, that's wild
Those hi hats are unmistakable
the beat was originally used for Project Pat's track Choose U, Pimp C loved the track and wanted to rap on it as well, and the rest is history.
There's a megamix version that has UGK, Outkast, DJ Paul, Juicy J and Project Pat on it. It's on UA-cam as well.
You would if you were a project pat fan lol

It's going to be a while before someone comes up with a visualization for sampling that's better than this. At this point this is almost iconic visualization for the art of beat making and sampling.

They should've just had Andre rapping over the sample w/o drums for the whole song.
The drums they added don't fit the sample and throws the whole beat off imo
