- Harry has an asthma attack on stage, which is the worst one fans have seen - One Direction in London on 6/7/2014
Despite Harry's health, he continues to entertain millions across the world. Asthma is a very common condition and affects each person differently, and is typically very manageable.
Everyone has challenges in their life, whether they are physical, mental, emotional, environmental, etc. I hope these videos help to inspire people to push beyond their limitations and pursue their dreams. Show kindness to others and make a positive impact on the world.

Oh my god! How can they allow him to perform in that condition!? I don’t have asthma myself but from what I know having an asthma attack IS NOT a pleasant experience. 1D was really hard on Harry’s health issues and it absolutely breaks my heart to see him trying to push through these things. The pressure Harry must have felt during that moment is unimaginable. From what I know you usually experience a great deal of stress and anxiety during an asthma attack and to add on to that he was suffering through this in front of thousands of people counting on him to give his best performance. Anyone else would be sitting down and getting a chance to catch their breath for awhile but in Harry’s case that just wasn’t possible. And if this happened to be a very severe event it would be extremely difficult to get him the help he needs as fast as possible. From what iv’e seen before he try’s his best to hide his struggles on stage most likely to not worry others, but in situations like this it’s important for people to be aware of it just in case Harry ended up needing immediate attention. So so so glad he didn’t pass out or need to be transported to the Hospital but it’s so upsetting that he had to persevere through these struggles.
Agree. I know this was an important show for them so he had to push through, but you never want it to be at the expense of someone’s health. Poor guy never seemed to fully recover and was consistently overworked. They all were.
Poor Harry, he should’ve taken vocal rest once it started getting bad, I was almost in tears watching this…😭💚
It makes me sad as well, mostly because I can see how hard he's fighting
Same 😭
I know same literally crying
Yall chill lmao, don’t pity him. Asthma is normal and he seems to be dealing with it.
vocal rest wouldnt have helped anyway. he would still be struggling to breathe.
Asthma attacks are so painful, speaking from experience. So to be having an asthma attack while still singing at a concert, honestly my respect for Harry just went up even more.
He is pretty awesome :)
@@MyMindMood If it's only asthma, why has he never admitted to suffering so badly from it?
@@desolationangel5136 He doesn’t seem to like talking about his health. Even when asked about his wrist surgery, he brushed it off as nothing.
When my asthma gets bad I can't even stand properly and battle to even talk... I cannot imagine having to sing and perform for all those people!!!! He is such a trooper and we love him even more for it... After all these stories have come out about how band the management was for the band Why Don't We, it is even easier to believe the awful things the management made 1D do...
Not sure how he made it through, but he did it.
I've had those attacks before too, they are terrifying.
This was not a "worst asthma attack ever" scenario if he was still able to move around like that. Bad, yes, worst, nope.
@@mimib8032 Agree that it could’ve been worse. But it was the worst I’ve seen of him on stage so far.
I'm a Directioner and a Limelight and I think it's so crazy how they were treated. no human deserves to be treated like that
I had asthma growing up and having an attack is horrific. Constant anxiety bordering on panic because you literally can’t get enough air and then the added pressure for H of people depending on him and not wanting to let the fans down. And there’s nothing wrong with the way he takes his medicine. Empty lungs, inhale medicine, hold. I took mine the same way and never used a spacer. It’s simply not common practice to use one here. My stepdad has had asthma his whole life and he never used one either. And keep in mind H was mid-attack and probably super anxious and stressed out.
Thanks for the perspective. Doesn’t sound pleasant at all. I didn’t realize spacers weren’t used in Europe. I’m sure he was just grasping for some sort of relief.
I have asthma since I was 5 its very hard to breath when it attacked. Oh I feel sorry about Harry 🥺 but he's trying his best to not to show it 😔 GET WELL SOON HARRY ❤
Yep, this exactly, I had asthma attacks in gymnastics growing up because we'd go running in the morning outside and i'm allergic to pollen. My coaches saw me wheezing and told me to stop being dramatic -.- fortunately I had a friend who let me borrow her inhaler the first time I had one. Obviously I now have my own inhaler, but you genuinely feel tight in the chest, light headed, and it feels like you're honestly going to die. It really sucks
What’s a spacer and what’s H?
@@midnights349 H = Harry; a spacer is a chamber you add to an inhaler to help the medicine get into the lungs better.
And even this way, he sounded amazing. He stops concerts for others well being, but never for his own 😢💚
He does always sound pretty darn amazing, even when he doesn't appear 100%
but he still sang for us 😭
He always pushes through
Hes so brave harry makes me strong and he still sung for us and even on love on tour h had to use an oxygen mask
You can check out the video here for the oxygen ua-cam.com/video/I2At4OrNzg8/v-deo.html
As far as I understand, he only had that in a high altitude city.
@@judithfurmston3731 Correct
@@judithfurmston3731 that's my city! it's a pretty common thing for artists to have them on hand whether they have asthma or not--it takes a few days to adjust to the altitude and typically artists only arrive the night before or day of and don't have the opportunity
He needed nebulizations. The inhaler might have worked the first 5 minutes when he started to feel out of breath. He is so hard working and he really wanted to give his best but this could have been very dangerous. Harry deserves all the love because the amount of work this man did and continues to do is admirable.
Yeah, not well-controlled here at all.
yeah it usually works better when I use my inhaler before I have a severe full blown attack - once I'm wheezing and coughing when I try to inhale is when I decide to use it... also a singer and an athlete, it really sucks to have asthma in this type of career
I have asthma and I know what he is going through and it sucks I almost had to go to the hospital once. Gym for me at school is painful. Stay strong Harry🥺
@Olivia Directioner - I’m sorry to hear that. Stay well ❤️
@@MyMindMood Thank you. Pray for me and Harry. 🥺
i’ve been to the hospital almost 7 or 8 times with asthma stuff and i was actually at harry’s concert and i had to pull down my mask and sit down. i didn’t even have my inhaler then
@@ameliac2008 Well lucky that you got to go to his concert and hang in there I know how you feel wearing a mask I can hardly breathe in them.
Onetime I had to go to the er when I was six from this… I didn’t know what was happening
The fact that his LITERALLY HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING and his voice is still incredible he’s so talented and such a sweet angel🤩✨😍😇
Pretty incredible!
Yea... he is a trooper!!
AND... even many years later as well. Dude... you are truly loved by MANY. BRAVO. 👏👏👏
❤️
I had Asthma out of an chest infection when I was around 7,8 years old and even though that was long long ago watching harry in pain made me remember the discomfort I had. He is so brave for performing while being this sick. This is why we all hate their management they never gave a fuck about the well-being of the boys🥺
Oh wow- that sucks. It’s too bad they were so mishandled.
You know I don't have asthma but I do have anxiety and having anxiety attacks is horrible because your chest is tight and tingly, you feel out of breath even though you know your not, you start sweating, feeling uncomfortable and being unable to relax and unwind. For Harry to continue singing when he was out of breath, bordering on anxiety and panic is just impressive. It makes me hurt that he was breathless in many performances yet didn't stop. I know from experience that all I can do is sit there and try expand my chest a bit so I have a huge amount of respect for his continuance even when he felt bad. Lovely, talented man
He def deserves credit
I knew he had asthma but seeing it is different. He really struggled.
I feel like if you see the whole story, it shows a whole different side of it
I didn’t know that. Wonder if he grew out of it???
@@iamangela1 It appears he still struggles with it
One more thing that i hv realised is that when he was in a band of 5 boys he had less portions to sing and had a lot of breathing space and time… if he was unwell sometimes the boys would be able to carry him in terms of vocals or the lack of it… but during his solo days its just him and he has to brave it through the whole show no matter how hes feeling… maybe thats why his breathing issues look more evident now… and the cameras always panned on him… during 1d days he was able to hide better… and i think hes been working really hard trying to build his stamina up … but theres only so much that can be done… he said in an interview that nowadays he isnt even gyming only low intensity workouts and aerobics like running and dancing etc… hope that helps him
@@sammylj3644 I thought I heard him say he works out “a normal amount”. He looks pretty good and in shape. Now that I’ve seen him dance at Glasgow and not get out of breath, I know what he’s capable of on a good day 👍
omg this really shows how strong he is, the way he keeps going just for the fans. I feel so bad i just wanna hug him and tell him everythings going to be ok
♥
Harry is so devoted and dedicated to his fans he would force himself to carry on for them😢. So sorry for Harry, asthma can happen at any time. Anxiety, Weather, Rundown, Overactive. His lifestyle is all of this and more.😢. Very hard to tolerate and unpredictable.
The fact that Hazza still sung for us makes my respect for Haz is on 100 new levels
❤️
Holy cow…he’s a trooper indeed u said it…every single concert hes been literally struggling on stage and we didnt even know…i almost had tears watching this… hey btw just curious does water help in asthma? He always keeps drinking water … bless my H …he gave us so much and we must give it back to him… he deserves all the love
Yes water does help as you become slightly acidotic from being alkalotic but that’s end stage as the attack progresses and very thirsty with asthma; you can still get the note out singing with asthma as you use circular abdominal breathing but don’t have the air in your chest to sustain the note long and it bloody hurts
@@saschamacph wow I had no idea…I seriously can’t comprehend how it would actually feel like being so out of breath the whole time…man hats off to all asthmatics in the world
Actually, asthmatics are alkalotic during most attacks; the rapid breathing causes that. They can become acidotic if they develop respiratory failure from a severe attack, causing carbon dioxide to build up. This is usually a life-threatening situation.
@@kajakonieczny4244 yes but i believe as the asthma attack flares up and exhaling co2 becomes harder and co2 starts to build up one would actually become acidotic…most asthmatics dont wash out co2 as you would expect
@@sammylj3644 absolutely correct! But you’d need fairly significant bronchospasm to have difficulty exhaling the CO2. In mild-moderate attacks, this usually doesn’t happen
this is so sad but he is so cute towards his fans and just singing for them even tho he's strugling
0:23 his face is so cute
Any time he can't sing, the fans always jump right in - it's awesome
@@MyMindMood ikk its so cute
as someone who’s gone to the hospital for asthma purposes multiple times i can’t imagine singing during as asthma attack
Seriously- he’s dedicated
Although the video is years old but I still get my eyes teary, seeing him suffering 😔💚❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤️
I'm not a medical professional (just a fan), I remember reading this in one of 1D's book that Harry suffers from hay fever, does that explains all of his symptoms? It's heart breaking to see him in pain, I really hope he gets better and better.
@Marvelite - Hay fever is essentially seasonal allergies. Allergies and asthma usually go hand in hand. His body has a reaction to both internal (virus) and external (smoke/fog, pollen) elements. They may very well be calling this asthmatic response more of an “allergy”, but he clearly has a respiratory component, which in my part of the world is called asthma.
he still sounds SO amazing, this is so heartbreaking to watch
🙁
I have asthma since I am three and I hate those attacks… I can’t speak during my attacks and singing is definitely impossible. I’m so happy that Harry has survived this attack. That could have been worse…🥺
How he sang all night is beyond me.
He didnt sing most of the night… they had him on playback during that entire run of 8-10 shows… he could sing only a couple of songs… cuz when he was asked to speak to the crowd during his bit u could tell he was struggling
Me too. Agreed.
Poor Harry, he is a fighter for being able to go through the WHOLE show without medical attention.he should have been helped and brought medical attention as he showed clear signs of discomfort
There were many shows that he was so unwell. But it had to be a tough situation with a lot of people depending on him. At least he’s more in control of his career now.
❤always professional…the show always comes first with him.
He needs to also look after himself
i’m in tears. poor H
😞
I can't believe Harry still sang for us he is so generous
❤️
I've nursed asthma attacks in which the sufferer looks petrified and pathetic, hopelessly trying to breathe as theophylline is being pour into their veins for days on end. It's scary but nurses need to remain poker faced.
When I stopped working in hospitals as my neuro condition worsened, my own asthma got worse. With the worst attack I had trouble speaking for two weeks after, as my throat was hoarse. Luckily I did not need ro go on a drip and have only had one or two nebulisers in my life. However I have ended up in hospital from choking episodes, where food gets stuck in the spasms and the scar tissue in my oesophagus.
How Harry Styles can even think of still singing while being short of breath on stage is beyond me!
Yes, it's always scary to see people (or patients) in dire situations. I can imagine not being able to breathe well is a very scary feeling. Harry definitely has some will power. Hope you're staying well.
Nah its the fact that he still tries to sing for the concert like I was actually about to start crying
♥
Poor Harry. ❤️
He was pushed so hard and pushed himself too hard... I'm glad he seems better these days.
I don't know how he struggled through he's a true professional.
Something about Harry just love him can't stop watching him he's so cute and handsome. I'm old enough to be his mom too 🤦♀️I'm 50!
Harry has fans of all ages!
The second his asthma started hitting him even if it wasn't bad he should have walked off stage got his inhaler straight away and not come back on until he was absolutely ok. He did not deserve to go on like that. We love you harry you didn't deserve that ❤️
I get the impression that he does this a lot - where he just continues to get through the set and maybe takes care of things when they have time off-stage. He's not the type of person that's just going to leave the stage mid-song.
no he really put his everything into performing for us
He does!
I’m so so sad that Harry feels like it’s his fault that he has it and he still wanna try more and more to give people the good show. I want him to know that we won’t be ever mad at him for not doing so much when he don’t feel like it or when it’s obvious that he’s not able to do anything. His health is as important as our is and he shouldn’t ever feel like he can’t take a break. I really hope that he felt better after that show.
He just keeps going! Luckily we haven’t seen him this ill in his solo career, but he’s still having some issues.
I don't if the place they were at was cold at the time but cold could be ONE of the reasons that it's worse (anxiety, cold, chest infection, heat, thunder laughing are some reasons and causes for asthma attack that not alot of people know). I have asthma and it's worse in the winter and spring sometimes summer because of the heat and it's crazy that laughing can cause a coughing fit and an attack. Also hot tea or coffee can help if you're able to drink during asthma attack which is hard.
@N I A L L E R - He was actually sick with a virus a few days prior, which set off his asthma. You will often see him drinking a hot drink when he's not feeling well on stage.
@@MyMindMood yeah i noticed, him and the other bandmates drinking tea.
Omg poor soul yet he still sung for us (get better soon)
He never lets his fans down!
awww i feels so bad for him the boys were treated so badly i love him sm 😭i get this i have panic attacks sm i use a inhaler but sometimes that doesn’t even work
♥
I feel so hurt inside. This was terrible for him. He should ok have taken a break poor guy. ❤
Yes. Luckily this was long ago and he’s better now
Harry is very professional.. he always perform despite of having unwanted health conditions..Though he's struggling but still manage to handle the situation and that makes him very much adorable..
Yes, he always figures how to manage himself somehow.
Louis looks so concerned all the time checking on him so often🥺 zayn too tho
They probably all had concerns for each other at some point in their time together.
MY BABY HES SO BRAVE
He's a rock star!
Yoh Harry is strong with asthma he still sings and when he is struggling to breathe he still sings
He’s dedicated!
The slightly watery eyes make it even worse 💔😭
Poor boy…
😔
Poor lad, I don’t know what it’s like to have asthma but I had a panic attack mid 20 min final year dance performance with my group and it’s scary because you feel like you can’t stop and look after yourself because people are relying on you but you feel like you are dying. He did so well to carry on for a full show. Glad it didn’t get dangerous (or more so)
He did well in the circumstance!
I have asthma like my dad and i can't even talk when it comes Harry is amazing and profesional, I hope he's ok now
He’s a rock star. Hope you’re doing well and staying healthy.
I m crying Harry be healthy be safey😭😭
❤️
I knew he had asthma but I never realized it got this bad. He does such a good job of not showing the fans that he's hurting but we would let him rest if he just told us what was going on. He's so perfect. He doesn't need to strain or hurt himself just for us. This vid makes me so sad. 😞
It’s crazy how no one in the audience would notice unless they really paid attention. He’s always entertaining!
How he's trying his best not to show it and keeps on trying to sing and entertain the fans makes me so sad, I feel so bad for him! I would've done literally anything to help him :(
He’s an amazing performer no matter what
It’s sad that no one of his team got him off stage for a while so he can rest. Poor guy
I wish they had given him a break so he could medicate better. He was in such a rush with his inhaler on stage because he wants to hide it.
can hear you " howling till your lungs hurt"😢💚💙❤️

i feel so bad for harry,it must be scary. But somehow harry still pulls through!!!i hope he ws okay ❤
I can’t imagine the anxiety he was experiencing.
These boys needed more care physically and mentally.
100%. They needed more support.
Where’s the medic?? It’s a little bit scary that the person capturing the video got it and the rest didn’t. It makes me sad!
I wonder if they had one backstage? I don't know enough about how the entertainment industry works.
Venues should have medical staff available and as for the guys own touring medical staff I am not sure
So sorry I know how feel been fighting this most of my life take care of yourself
Hope you’re doing ok. Asthma sucks.
Poor harry I’m crying
😞
As a mom it was hard for me to watch him struggle on stage, I would have pulled him off stage and made him rest. It’s not worth risking his health, his fans love him and would totally understand. The stage manager should of pulled him aside. 😠😢
It is unfortunate how he had to perform that week while he was feeling so ill.
Poor Harry! 😭
😞
Sometimes I wish I could give harry a big hug whilst he is suffering on stage
🤗
Harry should've left the stage for a while until he felt better. The rest could've carried on fine and the fans would understand. Never suffer like this for anyone. I have asthma like so many others and know what it's like, it's not nice at all and it can feel scary when you're struggling to breathe properly. Bless him 💖
He probably should’ve taken some time off stage. Glad he was ok. Hope you’re doing well and staying healthy!
@@MyMindMood Well I besides other health problems have very sensitive asthma ,the slightest thing can upset it , but ok for the last few days, but seeing this you can really feel what he's going through. He's obviously got better help since and got in better shape so maybe it was a good thing he's now on his own as maybe less pressure for him , plus other members as let's face it girl and boy bands have a lot of ridiculous rules in their contracts and don't get as much freedom as they would if they're on their own.

Anyone who's actually had a real asthma attack knows this is more likely allergies. Asthma would have stopped the concert.
There are different severities of asthma and it affects everyone differently.

The coughing is not just to “get the trapped air out”, asthma attacks also cause a build up of sticky mucus that we have to cough out unless we want to literally drown/suffocate on it

It looks like he had fever, he couldn't breathe well and just struggle to finish the show. The way he touched his forehead shows how much tired he was. I think Harry is more sensitive than other members, because I rarely see them in trouble with theirs health, except him.
He does appear to be a bit more fragile for some reason. The other boys did have some mental health issues though from the instant fame and demanding schedules.

Ok so I'm a respiratory tech and it bothers me so much that he doesn't take his inhaler correctly 😅😅😅 I'm sorry but it's not gonna work if you take it like that 🤷
And where's the spacer?
@@MyMindMood exactly !! If I see him in concert I think I'm gonna make a sign about it 😂
Most adult patients in europe dont use spacers i believe and moreover in public when hes trying to be as discreet as possibly a spacer seems rather unlikely
@@sammylj3644 I mean..... Still not an excuse 😅 he might as well not take it because it's not effective AT ALL. (it's what I do for a living please excuse me 😂😂)
@@vanraymond441 yes u do have a valid point but im really telling u people hardly ever use a spacer in this part of the world… but yes they should cuz that way the meds would be more effevtive…but his technique isnt that terrible either wouldnt u say
Why ,why doesn't Harry always have an inhaler with him at all times. He should never be far from one. 😢
It’s maddening that he didn’t have it on him
Who the hell are his bosses? They needed to remove him from that stage stat! A bad asthma attack can cause a heart attack. What kind of people are running that show? Plus, just a mild attack feels horrific. Looks like he's going through much worse than that. I worked in health care for 38 years as a nurse's aide. I spent years working on cardiac units. A rescue inhaler is not enough in this situation. Hopefully he has a pulmonologist. He needs to see that doctor & make sure he's on the right asthma med. I know a little about this cause I'm also a new asthma patient. It took doctors almost 2 years to figure out what caused my breathing problems. Multiple trips to the E.R. & multiple hospitalizations before they figured it out. Now I only use a rescue inhaler on very bad air pollution days. I use an asthma med twice a day and all's good. I know there are some people with worse asthma that have a harder time controlling it. I just hope Harry is getting the right medical care. And following the doc's orders.
I believe he's getting much better care and taking care of his health now that he's solo. I don't think he'd have a "heart attack" though - that is a separate issue from asthma and not related. Although, his heart may beat very fast trying to oxygenate and/or from the bronchodilators. Never something to take lightly. Hope you're staying healthy!
I have asthma too and oh my God it's pretty bad
Sorry to hear. Hope you’re staying healthy.
