I had the privilege of meeting Phil Lynott on the Renegade tour in 1982 at the Oxford New Theatre in England. It was 4pm and Phil walked up to the stage door. Gave me an autograph and then said in his thick Irish brogue, how many are yers? There was six of us and he let us in and we watched Thin Lizzy sound check. As I 17 year old I was in heaven and 36 years later I still am at 53. God he was a gentleman and god he looked like a rock star. RIP Phil Parras Lynott xx
Hi man I was room service waiter at the Randolph Hotel just round the corner from the Gig, the Band stayed with us for 3 nights he was a real gent a great bloke,I was in phase 3 of rehab at the time and phill wanted to know,R.I.P. Phill.
I could listen to these guys talk about Lizzy, all day long. Eric's accent is really unique. Robbo and Scott are the best guitar duo ever. Brian Downey is very underated as a drummer.
I play guitar and Scott is my hero. I have cancer and it would make me so happy to meet him while both of us are still alive. I wish I could have been alive back when Lizzy was touring 🤯
So sad to hear Gary talking about Phil‘s issues knowing what would happen to him in the years to come. He seemed so relaxed and at peace with himself here.
I'm disappointed in Gary, hearing him talk about Phil's addiction, then drinks himself to death 6yrs. later, the disappointment lies in Rory and Gary not taking care of themselves, the guitar glory of Ireland will never be the same, those two exceptional guitar players were great then put alongside Phil's interpretation of the Blues-priceless, Thin Lizzy will always be remembered as rivaling anything from England
@Stewart Wallace Agreed. I don't have a dog in this fight but Moore adequately explained it. He even said he should not have left during the tour. Didn't sound arrogant or hypocritical to me.
Seeing Phil's Mum reach up and touch the face of Phil's statue was very touching. The pain that poor lady must have been feeling then. Also the joy at her son being honoured in this way, a day of mixed emotions for sure.
In high school they were pinnacle for the incredible harmonies they produced. Easily standup to the test of time. Snowy White did the colossal solos on China Town. Not sure how much he played in the band in the later years.
Prior to my leaving for OZ Phil and I were really great friends from the 60's and Brian too,we practically grew up playing music around Dublin Phil even joined up with me in Some People for a few months before Thin Lizzy started and later on I played with Eric Bell in a band with John Farrell on vocals and Andy from the Editions on Keys.We all had great times then and i really miss them all.PC www.wallyandthegators.net.au
Phil Lynott - bass, & Lead Vocals (1969-1983) Brian Downey - Drums (1969-1983) Eric Bell - Guitar (1969-1973) Scott Gorham - Guitar (1974-83) Brian Robertson - Guitar, (1974-78) Gary Moore - Guitar, (1978-1979) Snowy White - Guitar (1980-1982) John Sykes - Guitar (1982-1983) Darren Wharton - keyboard (1980-83)
Not forgetting Eric Wrixon on keyboards at the very start. A few others that did stints without recording were John Cann, Andy Gee, Dave Flett and Mark Nauseef. Sorry for being a nerd!!
Robbo: "Good songs don't go away." He is right. That's why we are still listening 50 years later. Today's studio generated shit doesn't come close to what these musicians created and performed.
I had just finished watching some videos of some famous rock bands, and comments about who was the better member of the band, how some replacement members were better or worse, etc, arguments about this and that.. And then I started watching some videos of one of my favourite bands from the time I was growing up, Thin Lizzy.. And you know what, I thought, "Now, this is another level" a much higher level. This is not just for rock lovers, but also for good music lovers. Loved Thin Lizzy then, love then now and I always will.
Been cool had they had one of his Bass Guitar's at center stage and a mic with a spot light on it! Just my idea! He was the 1st Frontman n Bass player that I recall..
I met the band after jailbreak. Couldn’t have been nicer. But Scott was so down to earth. Phil was trying to come onto two girls but answered all my questions. What a gentleman
Yeah it’s weird. Gary obviously didn’t regard them as “main guys”, despite Sykes fronting the band as it was around that time. Like Gary, he played on one album, and White had recorded two.
So sad seeing Gary Moore in the early part of this footage holding and kissing his young daughter (?), in the background just after unveiling Lynott's statue. Peace...
I always thought it was a tragedy, Robbo's hand being sliced up, I'd be so gutted if I was him, haven't heard much of him since those days really, probably alcohol related oroblems but the band was never the same, not for me anyway...
I saw thin Lizzy in Auckland New Zealand about 78ish, Snowy White and Scott gorham on guitars i think, lots of drugs in them days, met phil and brian downey after the show at a night club, with Living force the main act, Anyone that was there let me know, Cheers Barry
Snowy White was longer with the band than Gary Moore and recorded 2 great albums so doesn’t make any sense that he not on that gig with other guitarists, John Sykes should have been on that gig also, it would have been so much better a gig but was still fantastic I was there myself.
Scott was the most good looking and attractive of the lineup, he still is!! I just watch him on stage with that long hair and he is was sex on legs. Also he was and still is a fantastic guitarist
@@taraalan1131 And also...the "life" is so difficult. many seek to feel less pain . @Stewart Wallace Ah no, I probably would still have Gary sing, just disappointed that Robbo & Scott could have been on stage at the same time but never happened. All 3guitarists plus Eric Bell could have jammed at the end.
It's rubbish to say that there was no gig planned to celebrate the unveiling of the statue. A gig was planned way in advance for Vicar Street, but Gary's management stepped in and it turned into the Gary Moore show. Gary lived as a hypocrite and died as one too.
@Stewart Wallace Brian Robertson's manager/booking agent, Soren, emailed me and asked me would I do Still In Love With You and a couple of other songs with Robbo at the gig - which WAS booked for Vicar Street - until Gary stepped in.
@@seanandben I have no Dog in the fight except for the Truth. I am saddened to hear that the story was changed for some sort of personal gain (it seems). I LOVE Garys Rock Career..but there are many talented people who make errors in dealing with people. I will never understand why Gary dropped Neil Carter. Maybe it was mutual.
@@georgebarry8640 I played with Philip and Lizzy many times, and I don't wish to speak ill of the dead, but I met Gary many times and while he was a very good guitarist - (he would have been better if he knew when not to play and if his main amp didn't have "all controls on this amp up full" written in tape across it) - he was not a nice person and difficult to work with, unlike Philip who was always a total gentleman, and knew how to treat people even in his darkest days.

Scott Gorham seems really down to earth.
What a great upload! This brings tears to my eyes. We've lost so many of the "great ones" :( Thank you for posting this.
Scott is such a cool guy
So sad to hear Gary talking about Phil‘s issues knowing what would happen to him in the years to come. He seemed so relaxed and at peace with himself here.

Joe Small he obviously meant 6 years after the interview
Yeah Moore was a hypocrite tbh
@Joe Small
He ment 6 years from this interview sir.
Sorry.
Both great talents who died way too soon 😥😥😥

Thanks Phil & Gary.

One of the best Tribute Concerts Ive Ever seen Awsome concert. RIP Gary Moore. Awsome Guitarist.

The love for Phill really shines out from the boys .
The tightest guitar work I've ever heard. Rock & Roll baby.
In high school they were pinnacle for the incredible harmonies they produced. Easily standup to the test of time. Snowy White did the colossal solos on China Town. Not sure how much he played in the band in the later years.
For me Eric Bell's guitar solo on 'The Rocker' is best of all time..
My mate Scott Gorham....awesome!!!!!! miss this group..and certainly Phil........those days...I am grateful to have been part of that era.....
+Joseph Bush You know Scott? Awesome man!!
These guys had pure chemistry and Phil was the Glue.
