I have heard a similar story to this before. The lady has a mole near her genital area and two of her husband died. I respect her decision to divorce her husband to give herself peace of mind. Maybe this was the thing that actually made her better and cured her from her cancer? We may never know.
I don't agree with some of the Hmong practices related to shamanism and some of the rituals but I do think that there's truth behind it. I may not agree, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I think everyone is entitled to do what makes you feel better. Religion is based on faith, based on not knowing and needing some validation-- an understanding of how life works and I wouldn't discredit Hmong shamanism, it's our parent's way of life. Sometimes it gives answers that modern medicine can't, sometimes it gives spiritual strength to the needy and sometimes it truly works. I think instead of calling her backwards or the practice backwards, maybe we should think about the times that Hmong shamanism has been right so we can understand why she did what she did.
The only thing that I was a little frustrated with was the (ex) husband, why would you not want to try and figure out what you can do better? I understand that one shaman lady stated, there is nothing you can do once you've descend down from the heavens.. but at least just help yourself to help the situation. He really only sought out a saib yaig person after the third wife left, but why didn't he believe the 2nd wife and if he believes that the current 3rd ex wife can be "reborn" so can remarry her.. why doesn't he just try that?
