Where in Genesis or in the Old Testament as a whole is Adam’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden described as the cause of universal human sinfulness and guilt. Inherited sinfulness is not one of the curses on Adam.
I struggle to make any sense of the creation story. So, god made Adam and Eve, to have free will, and yet have no knowledge of good and evil. He then told them “do not eat of this tree”, but how can they have made a free willed decision, without understanding consequences? It’s completely paradoxical.

Adam is not blamed for Cain’s act of murder.Likewise, Adam is not blamed for the flood. What does the Bible say about original sin? Original sin is not a phrase which appears in scripture anywhere. St. Augustine coined the term to refer to the first act of disobedience to God, e.g. God tells Adam and Eve to not eat fruit from the tree of knowledge and then they do it. They disobey God and that sin leads to death being introduced to humanity. Original sin is not a “thing" in Judaism which is interesting on account of Jesus being a Jewish guy (not a Christian). Most people who are big on "original sin" would do better to not call themselves Christians and go with the more appropriate label of "Augustinians." It was Augustine who led the church in the 400s to adopt the whole original sin hangup. Also it was he who got christians so uptight about sex.
Wouldn't you think an all mighty creator could have made things more simple to understand. Example, thousands of religions and none can agree. Paul wrote that God is not the author of confusion. But scripture/Bible is absolutely confusing and interpreted hundreds of different ways.
But Ezekiel 18:20 literally contradicts this idea. How can the children of Adam receive the sin of their father when in that verse it says "The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them."
@@shoutinghorse you are another person that doesn't understand the spiritual things, God forgive everyone that ask for forgiveness, through Jesus Christ, but the blasphemy of the holy spirit is not forgiven, that includes damming the holyscriptures
One can trace it back even further. Sin “miss the mark” as in archery. Sin was roughly translated originally from non alphabetic cuneiform language. It was originally the idea of living out of sync. This aligns with the origins of all religious foundations were more for survival and being able to succeed on this planet. Time and seasons are incredibly important for such ancient modern humans as the need to be prepared for winter was critical in societies that relied on living in one place. The term sin has been more correctly translated to “missing the mark” or not living in time with day/night and seasons. Cool huh?
further, there’s many mistranslation or added dramatic fantastic stories that were added to contemporary religious books. The first line of the Bible for example ought to read more appropriately “so there is light”. The origins of that context was simply meaning the sun and no creator was implied whatsoever. The concept of adding or creating a god or gods to religious practices can be traced back to social evolutionary situations where more populated communities existed. The people who took charge of these groups to ensure best survival created the concepts of gods and then later one god. The reason being that if one is led to believe they are always being watched by a powerful entity, they’re less likely to steal food supplies and other such anti-social behavior. Another aspect of such creation of the god concepts was to simply control a population and this was absolutely the most powerful way to use fear mongering or dramatic rhetoric to sway or manipulate a large population to act on a ruling parties behalf. Of course the Greeks and other cultures then used the multiple god concepts to add a symbolic aspect to particular topics or concepts. The animalistic mind we as humans have are very apt to symbolic importance or comparisons to known things. The same processes in the mind of animals or humans that for example seeing a silhouette of a bear instantly means danger are evolutionary and instinctual even today. The way we see a white tailed deer get spooked by a falling branch and then lift its tail to notify others in the herd to run is the same brain process we humans use to connect meaning to symbolic ideas. It is instinctual and therefore can be or feel emotionally based such that religion becomes accepted by humans. As we know there is no proof nor will there ever be, it’s a psychological emotional need or want to have answers to rely and simply injecting the concepts of religion at some point, it then becomes a cognitive bias to help a person gain the illusion of knowing. It’s incredible humans still fall for such ancient low level thought manipulation where religion is accepted as truth today. Fascinating nevertheless
Put even more simply, we all fall short of the glory of God. A man’s original sin is their proclivity for evil and state of imperfection that can only be healed through God. Adam and Eve’s original sin was believing “we shall be as Gods,” to rule the land without His wisdom.
@@timothyseals3791 Sure it is. Living in a broken world where no one is perfect is sort of the whole thing. Being without sin is to not need God and a central part of the whole things is that we all need God for salvation, that we cannot save ourselves alone. What do you mean?
@@timothyseals3791 People are born with a nature that is sinful. Just as Jesus was born with the nature of God, we are all born with a nature that falls short of the glory of God. if god created adam and eve as perfect people, they would have not disobeyed and if they created as imperfect people they still made the decision to disobey but being imperfect people they would have done something wrong at some point because that's what imperfect people do. you cannot say here is an imperfect person who never did anything wrong in the entire life that absurd so if it wasn't the disobedience in the garden of Eden it would have been something else at some other time now why did God get so angry so god made them imperfect which means he shares in the responsibility god shares in the responsibility what Adam and eve did. he did not warn them by the way kids if you happen to meet a talking serpent don't listen to him because he is evil and will try to mislead you god never said anything like that. so adam a has no experience what so ever in good and evil in obeying disobeying and making moral choices so they made a mistake and incidentally. so why did go get into such divine fury at this one mistake which was likely to be done at some point because they did not have any prior experience to guide them?
I am a Christian but not religious. May I just say that is a good take away. And As far as I know in the book of Genesis Humans were created in God’s image. But I think the word “perfect” is something that throws us off. We are perfect in God’s image but not perfect as “ We will not make mistakes” because when you say perfect, that it God for you. Almighty ,and well, he is God. Humans aren’t absolute “perfect” as you described them in your statement. As you are aware, God gave us free will, to choose our decisions. In the Book of Genesis he also did tell Adam & Eve not to eat the apple from forbidden tree.
It doesn't say it was an apple. Also, Adam and Eve were mortal before they at the forbidden fruit. They would have become immortal had they eaten from the Tree of Life which was among the trees God told them to freely eat from. Who want to live forever? Do you want to die?
Come on man how can a baby make the decision to get baptized?? It's a decision to make an outward expression of an inward change.. a baby cannot make this choice..
Isn't the story of Adam and Eve a parable? You're talking about this as if it's a real event that actually happened. How can Original Sin exist if the story of Adam and Eve is just that, a story?
It's a true story. Adam is spoken of in the new testament as a real man, the father of us all. And Eve is spoken of in the new testament also as a real woman. Paul talked about how Satan deceived Eve. He also talked about Adam in Romans Chapter 5 for one example. Study every time they are mentioned in the new testament and you will see it's a true story of them in Genesis. The genealogy of Jesus in Luke goes back to Adam.
We are not born under the original sin, The first Adam brought sin to the world, under an old testament, But Jesus Christ came to take all sins of the world , Christ became the second Adam under a New testament , now we are Born under Grace , not under sin, because we become sinners as adults, but we must be born again and consider ourselves not sinners according to the book of Romans, Now we have a new ADAM and a new testament now we are Born under GRACE, if not then Christ die in vain..
Every single person from Adam to now are in need of Jesus as their Savior. It took the sacrifice of Jesus to save those under the law just as much as it takes the sacrifice of Jesus to save us. Just as God could forgive Abraham for believing in Him and count him as righteous, He was able also to forgive babies and little ones and count them innocent even before Jesus went to the cross.
This is why I stopped going to church. The Original Sin is about only God having power over Man. The sycophantic nature of men is that they want power over other men. So they created a story about a man who can undo what God has done. God's hands are unchanging.

If what you believe was true, it really wouldn't make any difference, because after you die, you wouldn't even know you had ever existed. It would be better not to ever have been born if this was the only life we had. This life is full of trouble and sorrow. God gives us the hope of eternal life where there is no more suffering.
There is no original sin! We are not innately bad, but the opposite, we are innately good; but we have an ego that causes us to see ourselves separate, lacking and at odds with life and others; at odds with Love, so we behave badly. But we are not bad! We are mistaken, we misunderstand life. Everyone has an ego, and it is not of Love. The ego is also not evil, although it is behind all acts we would consider evil. The ego is not a thing or an entity, it's just programming to take care of number one. This programming causes us to be self-servicing, self-centered, fearful, distrusting, defensive and aggressive. The ego is a sense of self, not something real or true. A sense of self is nothing tangible, nothing that can't be fairly easily overlooked, if its lack of realness is pointed out. The ego is programming that causes us to see life, ourselves and others through a particular lense; one tainted by fear, judgment, limitation, smallness and a sense of lack. The egoic programming creates a sense of being under attack or threatened by others and by life. The ego is in fear much of the time, and therefore divorced from Love. This fear is an illusion, an imagination of something fearful in the future; not based on an actual threat in the here and now. When we're identified with this very primitive part of ourselves, we believe in the ego's fears and try to protect ourselves any way we can; usually by trying to attain more wealth, comfort, power, security, control, success, popularity and admiration; all things that make the ego safer, at least temporarily.

Your beliefs in "good and evil" obscure - CLOUD OVER - all that God has in store for you if only you will believe in UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! You judge your todays and expect of your tomorrows what you have experienced in the past. Therefore, are the ills of your yesterdays continually repeated in the future. You are enslaved by your memories and your undeviating beliefs that what was past must return again and again to burden and wound you. You do not need to heal your body or try to make your life better, you need to heal your beliefs! Jesus has told you there is nothing solid under the sun. So if you could heal your beliefs, bring your beliefs into line with the true Intention of God for you, the wrong beliefs governing your body and life, will dissolve like mist in the sun. Your every circumstance will immediately come back to the Divine Intention behind all creation. You will find that for every difficulty, for every lack of every kind, there is always a means to end the difficulty, there is always a filling of your basket to meet your need. What did you think happened when the sick came to Jesus and he laid his hands upon them? Was Jesus thinking about the illness? Was Jesus wondering if the person will be healed? Was Jesus afraid God may be sleeping or is so far away he cannot be heard? No! If these were the disbelieving thoughts of Jesus, there will be no healing. When a person approached Jesus for healing, he immediately rejoiced because Jesus knew that the Power which is God is within him, ready and waiting to heal the moment he asked. Jesus gave thanks because he knew that the Will of God is health, not sickness. Therefore, Jesus prayed that the Will of God be done in the sick person. As Jesus removed the beliefs in sickness from the body of the sick person and KNEW that the Will of God of health is flowing into his system, so does the appearance - the appearance - of sickness change into health and the body is made whole once more. Sickness is nothing more than a lowering of vitality - a reduction of LIFE - within the affected part. Restore life to the true Intention and Plan of your system and the entire system functions as it should. You have been told that God sends sicknesses, plagues, famines, destruction to nations when they do not keep his laws and that you yourself are punished by the wrath of God for sins you have committed. What is punishment but evil-doing under the guise of goodness? Therefore I say unto you: evil does not come from God. How can God be of two parts - good and evil? It is only in your mind that you conceive good and evil, only in your heart do you think and feel it. These thoughts and feelings have nothing to do with God who is within you, bringing you every good thing if you will but believe this is so. It is your beliefs in good and evil, and the good and evil in your heart, which brings you sicknesses. In reality, we live within the Kingdom of Heaven, and the Kingdom of Heaven is within us, and we are governed by God, but because you believe in the punishments from God, believe that a blood sacrifice saved you, believe that you are heir to sickness, poverty and misery, you create with your mind, the very things you do not want. But be not downcast - rejoice and be glad and know that those who experience lack, far from being "punished" and "abandoned" by God, even though they have "sinned," are truly blessed.
In charismatic Christianity, babies are not baptised, but rather dedicated to God-This is because God gives us free will to choose whether to be His disciples or not; it's a personal decision that can only be made when a person is old enough to understand- parents cannot make that decision for their child.
John 15.16 You did not choose me but I chose you. Matthew 19.14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Acts 2.29 The promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. You do not baptize children because you deny God’s Word and elevate intellect above Jesus. You are half correct though, we do have free will to deny Jesus and reject baptism.
@@nathanyamaha465 - Well, baptising babies doesn't guarantee they they will grow up to follow the faith or even believe in God- I remember having a discusion with a work colleague who told me he had a friend who was quite resentful of his parents for baptising him as a baby- he made the same point that it should have been his decision. The Bible also says: "The Lord is the spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Cor. 3 v17. Baptising a baby is not giving them a choice, but forcing that decision on them, and that is not God's way. In charismstic christianity, we have a saying: "The Holy Spirit is a gentleman"- i.e. God doesn't force his spirit on anyone- he will only come and dwell in a person when that person invites him into their life. (This is the opposite for evil spirits, which possess people by forcing themselves onto them)- I remember this ringing very true to me when watching a (true life) documentary years ago, a guy who had been reading a horror book, suddenly became aware that a spirit had taken control over his little finger- he (unfortunately) approached a medium to try to get rid of the spirit, and asked the medium how she had got her 'powers'. She explained some spirits had come to her when she was young, and the guy commented that he thought it was: "very rude of the spirits to do that, since she hadn't asked them to possess her". Like I said, we don't baptise, but we dedicate chilldren unto God, which means to be "set apart and consecrated to God"- Jesus was dedicated as a baby (Luke 2 v 27) - so that doesn't mean 'keeping children away from God' - I mean, was Jesus "away from God" during his childhood?? - Parents are supposed to show children the way to God, until they are ready to make that decision for themselves and any parent who steadfastly brings their children up in this way- to love and have a reverential fear for God and His ways, and leads by example will find that their children want to follow the faith and be baptised later- I am a product of this, and I also know many people who are. (And I can tell you, although the parent's don't make the decision for the child, many are obviously very keen for their children to follow the God they serve and encourage the young person to do so - mine included). In contrast, there are millions of people who were baptised as babies, whose parents are only nominal christians and never go to church, or only go at Easter and Christmas, so the children haven't been bought up have any real appreciation of the chrisitan faith, and do not see the point of it, or even profess to being atheist- are they still 'chosen' then? (baptising a baby is not proof of being 'chosen'). "Many are called, but few are the chosen." Matt. 22 v14 "But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, to those who believed in His name" John 1 v12. - A baby hasn't had the opportunity to hear the gospel and believe (or not). There is an appreciation in catholicism to an extent that baptism is a personal decision, which is why the baby has to be confirmed later - so why not wait until they are old enough to be baptised? (I do not actually appreciate you telling me I'm "denying God's word" (in effect I am 'not Christian') or 'worldly minded' just because we have different theological beliefs. I am not catholic, but I've subscribed to this channel because I am interested in how catholics and protestants are similar in our beliefs and how were differ.
@@Summerbunny15 I am not a papist either. Infant baptism however is not something that the Roman church has incorrect. It is a modern phenomenon of some Christian sects to reject infant baptism and baptismal regeneration. This is because many protestant theologies stem from the age of reason. Decision theology is a product of the enlightenment and elevation of human reason above the clear testimony of Holy Scripture and against the efficacy of sacraments (mystery of faith). Sacrament in it's truest sense as taught according to the Bible is a means of grace by which our Lord Jesus Christ creates, sustains and seals our faith. Jesus has instituted certain sacraments for the Christian Church so that our faith would flourish, these are marks of the true church and those who reject them do deny God's Word and are not adhering to Christ's own teaching. The sacrament denied here by you is Holy Baptism which is commanded by Christ in John 3.5 "unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." Many will claim that's not "water baptism." Water baptism is a made up term meant to obscure the truth. Every Baptism in the New Testament involves water, (remember the Ethiopian eunuch? here's water what prevents me from being baptized.) Water and the Spirit (Triune Name, Word of God) that is the normal practice, baptidzo means after all 'to wash'. The problem with your theology is that you do not believe the fullness of God's grace, salvation is for the whole world, babies are not excluded. Holy Baptism has its OT counterpart, circumcision and shows that God is in the business of saving babies them even on the 8th day after birth. Jesus fulfilled all the Jewish Law and the New Covenant of His innocent Blood is greater than the Law which cannot save. You also belittle God in saying babies cannot have faith. Jesus obviously had faith even as a baby. John the Baptist leapt in Elizabeth's womb as Mary spoke about Jesus in his presence. The psalmist teaches us that we learn to trust God at our mother's breast. Ps. 22.9 "now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." Galatians 3. The Scripture does not say you are all sons of God [except your babies, they need to make a decision for themselves]. Granted, as you have noted anyone may deny their baptism rejecting the Faith, but this does not nullify God's faithfulness. If we are faithless He remains faithful. The promise still stands. and the Promise is for you and for your children... Acts 2.42 You are not a product of your decision to follow Jesus, Jesus is Savior, He raised us up from spiritual death (even as He will raise us physically on the Last Day) and He gives us His life giving Spirit. Dead men make no choice to follow God. In fact before God's Word the unregenerate are not only dead but hostile to God. Monergism means that God is the doer of saving, not you. Claiming you chose Jesus is stealing glory from our Heavenly Father and boarders on semi-pelagiansim. We were chosen before the foundation of the world. Ephesians 1.4-5, Romans 8.29 "baptising a baby is not proof of being 'chosen'" You have things backwards. You think baptism is man's work, an outward act of obedience to show one's dedication to God. But Baptism is in fact the opposite, it is God's work, His sacrament given to us to create and sustain faith. We must humble ourselves before the mighty Word of God and believe what Christ says. I pray you will begin to appreciate what a gift Holy Baptism is. Baptism is proof of being chosen, God puts His seal upon us, the Name, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and we are claimed as His. Just as you name your child when they were born and you gave them your last name claiming them as your own so also does God choose His children and it is not dependent on our choice. Though indeed as we mature in the faith we confirm God's great work on the Cross that Jesus is our Savior and confess the same before the world. Did you decide to be born when your father and mother had you? If we don't choose to be born into the world how can you even begin to think that you choose to be born from above?
@@Summerbunny15 See also Psalm 71:6 "Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of you." And Galatians 1:5 "But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace,"

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.
No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet, death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it, and that is how it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It's life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.

Psalm 6:5
Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave?
Ecclesiastes 9::5For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
7 ¶ Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Most people who are big on "original sin" would do better to not call themselves Christians and go with the more appropriate label of "Augustinians." It was Augustine who led the church in the 400s to adopt the whole original sin hangup. Also it was he who got christians so uptight about sex.
As always amazing. Congratulations
Wouldn't you think an all mighty creator could have made things more simple to understand. Example, thousands of religions and none can agree. Paul wrote that God is not the author of confusion. But scripture/Bible is absolutely confusing and interpreted hundreds of different ways.
People don't study it enough and most people believe what they want to believe.

Great answer! Sounds right. What was God's plan for Adam and Eve? What did they do that made them, and all of us forget who we are?

God said: "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
Therefore I say unto you: because, daily, you live in fear of "good and evil" and believe and expect these more than you believe that God is abundant LIFE and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE within you, supplying you with all things necessary for health and well-being, it is your most feared "good and evil" experiences you attract into your life and body.
John 15.16
You did not choose me but I chose you.
Matthew 19.14
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
Acts 2.29
The promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.
The Bible also says:
"The Lord is the spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Cor.
"But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, to those who believed in His name" John 1 v12.
Ps. 22.9
"now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. Acts 2.42
You are not a product of your decision to follow Jesus, Jesus is Savior, He raised us up from spiritual death (even as He will raise us physically on the Last Day) and He gives us His life giving Spirit. Ephesians 1.4-5, Romans 8.29
"baptising a baby is not proof of being 'chosen'" You have things backwards.

@@knowledgeispower2787 People die because God did not make our bodies to live forever. Our spirits can live forever if we are saved.
@@timothyseals3791 Our bodies were made to live forever. Or do you think that if Adam would have eaten from the Tree of Life he would have lost his body? No.
Our bodies were made to live forever and become immortal. But the natural body of flesh and blood is first, then it was meant to be transformed into a heavenly spiritual body of flesh and bones, like the one Jesus was transformed into upon His resurrection.
The natural body is like a seed which "dies" first and then is sown in the ground. Afterwards it is transformed and raised to long life as a glorious tree. (Please read the entire Chapter of 1 Corinthians 15 to see what is explained.)
God bless!
@@knowledgeispower2787 Where does the Bible say our bodies would live forever without the tree of life?
Gen 3 says that is one reason God kick them out of the garden. So that they would not live forever.
@@knowledgeispower2787 You even just said that the natural body is like a seed that dies. It was not meant to live forever.
pure bs
sounds like you've carefully thought this through
