Great vid as always. But I have a good video idea. You should make a video talking about famous graffiti artists that got arrested and how it happened. For example Rosy One getting her phone pinged while taking a picture of her work, KonQr getting caught tagging a tractor trailer in the middle of nowhere, and an upcoming artists blur who did a piece that said "Emilia" for a girl he liked on Valentine's Day and got snitched out by Emilia.

I've been doing this for a while.
Honestly, this is the first time anyone told me about the "Graffiti is letter-based public art" definition.
I guess I learn something new every day. I'm happy to call most what I do with stencils as "Street Art" but not necessarily "Graffiti".
I would add "unpaid", "undirected" and "in some way illegal" to my personal definitions of both Street Art and Graffiti. Still, there is a bit of wiggle room in what I would ask other people not to call Street Art.
For example, Tiger Woods signing his name on the 2019 Presidents Cup mural in Melbourne is cool I guess, but it is not Graffiti or Street Art.
Banksy writing "If graffiti changed anything it would be illegal" in 2011 on Clipstone Street in London next to a stencil of a rat, is Graffiti in my book.

It's been hard to get up with my kid and my work. Hopefully I can get the pipeline flowing a bit faster soon.
I bought some books because I need to know more of the history and culture.
I've been reading "Subway Art" by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant.
Can you recommend any other books?

@@BoxHillAbo I guess I'll think about it. "What is graffiti?" can be a rather esoteric question.
When a Roman in Pompeii carved “handle with care” next to a drawing of a phallus, sometime before 79 AD, that's definitely graffiti for me.
The tools may be different but there is something about the intention that seems to be eternal.
You explained it well. If you want it to be seen like on trains or by the road/track side then make it easy to read with big bold letters. Keep the complex stuff for the chill/legal spots where you have time to do it and for people to appreciate it more.

I think the border is graphism if the graffiti is readable it can be use a typography or if it’s unreadable it’s more about abstract art

tbh i just feel like it loses alot of impact when its not readable at all, like it just feels more like a blob of stuff (sure that looks cool) but it kind of loses its point of it being your name thats valorised

I'd like to see some videos where you look at different graffiti styles but focusing on one style per video,a video about throw ups or one about wildstyle for example. I always considered the difference between graffiti and street art was that if you had permission it's street art and if you didn't it's graffiti,I've seen some character based stuff that i would consider to be graffiti which kind of comes back to the legibility question,where you're recognising someone based more on their style. Keep up the good work dude ✌🏼

It really all comes down to who you're trying to be seen by. As mentioned, short viewing time places like highway signs are best for easy plain letters as everyone can read it at a glance, but anywhere you can stand and appreciate something for a long time is better for more details
