Wow, my daughter inherited a Husqvarna 1060 from her grandmother. Reverse was stuck and before this video i was convinced that the silvery part wasn't suppose to move. But after your instruction I managed to tilt it slightly, and a little more and a little more. Now the machine is as new again!

Wow!!!!! Thank you so much. I was asked to have a look at one of those machines that had been donated to a local charity working with refugee women. They were so disappointed when it was not working, that I felt I had to try to fix it. Your video was perfect. I followed your instructions exactly and all stitch lengths and reverse stitchng are now working. They will be thrilled!

    Hi John,
This video was very helpful to me ! I was lucky to obtain this beautiful Red coloured Husqvarna 5710 machine second hand last week for a real bargain, I guess it hadn't been used for several years, it had the exact same problem that the reverse button was stuck. I cleaned the machine inside and outside and applied your trick with the heardryer and some sewing machine oil lubrication and within 15 minutes the reverse button was free again ! This machine now is in perfect working condition ! It is a lovely and strong machine that easily handles several layers of heavy fabric while the machine is not too heavy and nicely compact. Thanks and regards from the Netherlands !

Hello John, thanks so much for your explanation and video. We just bought one of these machines secondhand for €25 in France. Your instructions enabled us to fix the reverse stitch which had seized, thanks so much! It's a great little machine.

The Viking Husqvarna 120 I'm using had feed dogs but no reverse and wouldn't change stitch size. I couldn't figure out what was wrong until I found your video and you pointed out the silver block. This fix worked on the 120 as well, so thank you!

You save me John, I had exactly the same problem, the aluminium block was trip in down position and my machine was only sewing in reverse mode ! It took me 2 days to find this video, but only 30min to solve the problem when I saw it. In my case, I used a soldering iron to localy heat the mettallic bar (shaft) and then heat the aluminium block by conduction. But first my advice would be to remove ALL the grease/wax with Alcool (Ethylic 90°) this was the key to speed up the process, and recover the full speed of reverse feeder button functionnality. Now my machine (Viking Optima 180) sew right. :-)

Dont DoThat sorry it took so long to find it. I'm trying to figure out why the search does not pick it up. Great idea on the soldering iron and solvent. Sad to say I lost all in a hurricane and am restricted to what is on hand. I did do a Necchi BU with throttle/choke cleaner (was on sale at 70% of the price of 90% alchol) and it worked great for getting 50 years of lube off the machine. Glad it helped you. That was the only reason I posted it. Glad to be of service.

Sometimes you just got to love the internet. Trying to fix my mom's sewingmachine. It wan't working right. Opened it up and figured out that something around there wasn't right, but I had no reference of how thing should be in there.
Started searching the web, found this video and learned that it's a reverse and that the silver block indeed should move xD Thanks alot for this video! I guess my mom's machine was "stuck" in reverse, explaining the issues.

Fantastic. a big thank you, I was able to restart, with a simple hair dryer, my mother's sewing machine (Husqvarna Viking 5610) which no longer carried the fabrics and whose reverse button was inoperative: Machine not used for at least 20 years the fat had hardened and caused blockages. Thanks very much. I just recovered two great old machines with this tip. A 3610 and a 3600. I use a bit of brake cleaner and lots of pivoting back and forth on the blocks to free them. Then I worked in some machine oil and they work great. The 3610 was so solid I would UK Kent have known it was meant to move with out your video. Thanks again.

So glad it helped. All this new technology can be used to help each other out. Glad it helped. On a prior machine I used carb cleaner (spray) . If possible get Sewing Machine oil as it's designed to evaporate before it clogs up with lint. Glad you got the old machines running. Tonight I'm going to try Gutterman heavy duty thread as my machine will not use V69 which is used on sails. I tried everything. I have the tension all the way to 9 and I still get loops. Wish me luck. I don't think the machine is designed for heavy work. I love this little machine.

@@capedoryus the old singer sewing machines are the best from what I’ve read for heavy duty sewing. I have just recently discovered Husqvarna and tried to rescue a few. I was sewing Joey pouches made from woollen blankets with another pouch made of flannel which I had to sew together the old Husqvarna sewed through all them all no worries where my new pfaff passport struggled. I just watched this one but have you got a video on how you undid the machine?

Arturo congratulations, you are going to love this machine. It's smooth and powerful. Why it does not get more love is beyond me. It reminds me of a 70s Volvo. It has special feet in that the shaft that holds the feet is slanted. The only time I found that to be a problem was when I purchased a walking foot that claimed to work on this model. I even contacted HV and they said No Walking foot for you. Your gonna love it. I think it's one of the most unusual machines ever made.

Thank you very much for this video! I just got a Husqvarna 3600 sewing machine and it suffers from the same problem. In addition to that, the grease on the plastic gears and the stainless steel rod which does the Zig Zag and other mode selections went waxy as well and all the mechanics were stuck.
The internals look very similar to your machine. I managed to fix the latter problem by adding silicone oil multiple times while moving and wiping all the parts again and again. The stitch length selection mechanism and reverse button is still stuck though and that silver block won't move a bit, even when pushed hard. I will try heating it up next. Disassembly is not possibly because the screw cannot be accessed while the part is rotated as it is...
Does anyone have a recommendation regarding the lubrication of the plastic parts? I'll have to clean off all the old white grease and replace it. Can I use Castrol Lithium Complex grease or will it degrade the plastics?

Thank you for this video, John. My 5710 sews in reverse fine but in forward mode its stitches are short, even at the setting of 4. Reducing the setting to 2 does shorten them further so I believe the knob functions OK. The funny thing is, the reverse stitches on setting 4 are exactly twice the length of the forward stitches on setting 4. Why would that be, any idea? Thanks again.

    • @cheryl9131
      @cheryl9131 5 років тому

OK, the reason it doesn't sew backwards during the overlock stitch is that the little arm isn't clipped to the stitch-length/reverse block and since it sits on a roller ball socket, it swivels out of its housing when reverse is engaged and then hangs uselesssly. I can see in your video that there is a little clip on it. I will try to find one!

This can be replaced if hubby or friend is an electrical handyman, can buy an appropriate one at any tech store. If needed I can show you a picture of my Husqvarna...which is the 5610...in this day n age you can actually just remove it and machine will likely work without it.

Šicí stroje opravuji celý život. Zatuhlý olej je problém. První krok - použít nevysychavý olej a rozpohybovat. Zpravidla pomůže. Druhý krok. Použít nitro ředidlo. Pozor na poškození plastových součástí a laku. Pokud tyto kroky nepomohou je nutný rozbor, zaschlý olej odstranit v lázni rozpouštědla, provézt zpětnou montáž a seřízení. Tento stroj miluji. Je tam přístup jako k penězům. Ovšem horší je Rumunská Niloletta.

Hay Kay I don't have the machine in front of me. It's going to be a walk in the park. All the back pieces fit together like a toy. Romove the screws that are holding on the brown piece (think it's 2) and that piece will slide up. So the screws don't hold it on but keep it from sliding off. There is another piece towards the bottom that slides sideways once you remove the screw. I hope this helps. By brown piece I mean the main piece that makes up the back of the machine. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. I should be reunited with my machine soon as I'm in Phila w/family and machine is in Indianapolis. Happy to do Google Duo or Zoom if you need it. When I get back to the machine I'll take a few photos of key pages
Keep an eye out for a Google photos link. The manual helps in knowing how the bobbin goes in and the threading for the needle. With your machine there really is no question. I'll look it over when I get back to Indianapolis. The 3760 and 5760 (not sure if I have the models right)were smaller runs. So there's not a lot of info. I purchased mine because I loved the look of this portable. Forget about getting a walking foot for this machine. That's how I discovered it was a different kind of HVerna. The shank is different and nobody makes a walking foot for this shank. Now you know. I still love the machine. Google link to come! Did you check manuals lib.com. they have tons of free manuals.
