That breakfast looked so good lol. I know I'm late. Catching up on your great videos.
Upstairs neighbors are the worst. Right now my neighbors decide to have smoke breaks outside my bedroom window at night while having long boring conversations and they always wake me up and I just hate them a lot.
Also your joy while reading it during the vlogging scenes was so infectious, I loved seeing you go through all the emotions! I have only read Name of the Wind and Wise Mans Fear once each but I agree that Rothfuss is something really unique. His writing is really on its own level from what I can remember.
lol I didn’t realize I’d been making those faces until I started editing 😂 Rothfuss really is a wordsmith so if he needs 20 years to make the next book perfect I’ll happily wait ☺️
@@LienesLibrary I hope you lets himself extend the trilogy if he needs to. I know he has so many other things he wants to write in this world too and I am excited for all of it so I hope he ends up finding a way to get those amazing stories to us!
You should check out “captured in words” KKR videos, as both of you are massive fans of the series I feel like you will really love his vids!
thank you for the coffee inspiration! am going to right now to order some samples :)
From Bones?? Yaaaaas 🙌
@@LienesLibrary yup!
@@DontHaveaDegreeinReading psssst I think they still have Wunderbones 😉
Thank you for your thoughts and the great vlog! Happy Reading!!! 😁📚
''He deserves people hurting him'' OH MY GOD NOOOOOO
I get that you are joking and (also we have the same taste in books I've noticed) are talking about when he's at the university but we must remember that this is a VERY VERY VERY traumatised person. His intelligence is perfect yes and he is cocky with it but it's so much deeper than that. To say his emotional wellbeing being damaged is an understatement. His childhood was ripped away from him at the age of eleven. He was a child and walked in on the corpses of his dead parents and everyone he loved. That scene makes me cry so much because the thing with Kvothe when he was kid, he was always seen as 'wise beyond his years'. Because of his gifted intelligence, he certainly understood things on a deeper level than most kids his age and having Ben as his mentor certainly advanced his years more than it should have. But that scene reminded us that he is A CHILD. A child trying to wake up his dead mother so she can hold him again and his father can sing to him but they don't. And they never will.
What makes me cry so much is when we cut back to Kvothe as Kote as an older man and he manages to go off by himself just so he can cry by himself. He cries silently too which I think was intended to emphasise how alone Kvothe is. He is a true survivor. Its easy to think of yourself as strong with a loving family who will aways support you and guide you and who is there to pick you up when you are down. Kvothe lost that. There is no one to guide him. Not really. No one who will love him unconditionally and tell him off when he makes mistakes but never abandons him. He has to pick himself up time and time again because no one else ever will. He has friends sure but they don't actually know him. I get why he doesn't tell them, especially at that age. It's fear of abandonment, he has so much paranoia and has been shown the harsh realities of the world at a younger age than he should have been that he doesn't trust that they'll stay with him. He loves his friends but the thing is even if he told them. they wouldn't;t understand. They've never been through that. They don't know that loneliness. I honestly think that would be worse for him.but if he lost them, I think he wouldn't be able to cope. You realise that he is quite a fragile person . He is aware of his intelligence but I actually think he is ignorant of his emotional strength to bear so a burden. And to be judged by people who just assume and who do not understand him and don't for one second even contemplate this is a boy with no family support or network, who is in extreme poverty and who will never recover from the suffering that led him there and the suffering he received as a result.
He then spends the next few years an orphan and homeless. Growing up on the streets, still just a child, crippled by grief, loneliness, vulnerability which will never go away. Being kicked and chased and spat on, barely able to survive. Those rare moments when we watch him receive kindness from a stranger (for instance those two young men who pick him from the snow and put the coat around him and give him money for warmth and food on a whim ) are so powerful. *Trigger warning coming up but I am so impressed that he hasn't committed suicide, he has so much strength. NOT the Mary Sue kind but rather this kind of inner strength that I don't even think he is aware of it really.
I get why you call him a shit but at the same time, maybe its just me. I don't have a problem when he is cocky and arrogant and gets rash and impulsive at times. He has so much anger and rightly so. It doesn't justify him lashing out at times but wouldn't you do the same? I think he is allowed to be cocky. It is the ONLY thing he has. Everything else was ripped from him.
Trauma does not excuse behaviour I know but then again, if you've gone through all of that and are still living in that trauma, I don't think anyone can really judge. Yes, Kote is an innkeeper now and is away from that life but at the same time no he isn't. Since this is medieval fantasy and therapy and support obviously don't exist, I will let him off. We would all be the same if not worse.
I love him when he is arrogant actually. Those moments are quite shallow in comparison to what has been done to him. And what he has witnessed. It never bothers me because I see a little boy in so much pain and who is so deeply alone. The self-destruction, the loneliness, the grief, the loss, the anger and rage over what's been lost, the regrets. The world isn't against him but it feels like it is and may as well be given the amount of trauma he's gone through. We see him work so hard to gain so little it breaks me.
I love the way he thinks. It's so realistic to what he has been through. The scene during his admissions into the university and he reveals that he cheated was GENIUS. Not only because of his intelligence but he is a survivor, he thinks with a survivor's mentality. This is someone who thinks 10 steps ahead because they have had to. I love seeing how much he applies it, it's just heartbreaking how much he suffered to be given that advantage over the others.
I think that is why he can be really cocky and rude to others at times. He is not a bad person by any means but when he snaps, it seems to be against those of more privilege. Who have a home to go to. Who grew up in luxury, never worrying about when the next meal will and if they will be woken up suddenly and have to run for their life so as not to lose their life.
I think he really resents (and understandably so ) those around him sometimes.
Sorry for the rant, I loved this video and am so happy that you loved the name of the wind as much as I do but that sentence triggered me somewhat😅😅😅😅. I feel so protective of Kvothe, he has gone through so much and is still going through so much. He needs such a long hug and a necromancer to bring his parents back so they can hold him again. If you read The Wise man's fear, that scene when he is in bed crying his eyes out and calling for his mother left me a broken mess GOD I LOVE THIS BOY SO MUCH. PROTECT AT ALL COSTS
I also subscribed to your channel to apologise for the defensive rant.😅😅 Sowwy!
Love watching your reading vlogs! Keep them coming
Glad you’re enjoying! 😋
First Law is a series I feel like is really lived in as well, been wanting to read this for awhile maybe one day lol
Love your vlogs and your channel please stay safe and congrats to you when you reach 5 k love from Australia 🇦🇺 xxx
Liene and the crisis of not knowing which coffee to drink. I guess that is the struggle of having too much coffee in the house. 🤣
There’s no such thing as too much coffee in the house 🤪
@@LienesLibrary 🤣
Funny, I had just stopped reading The Name of the Wind to watch your video, Kvothe has bought the luthe and played a tune. I'm not that invested, it's no problem to put the book down and do something else.
Amaretto candle
It smells fantastic
I don't drink alcohol or coffee, and yet I still enjoyed your discussion of both the mead and the copious amounts of coffee.
Also, I love name of the Wind. I read it the years ago in my last year of law school and I'm pretty sure it's responsible for my GPA taking a small dip.
The first time I read it I was reading it during my work commute and I missed my stop nearly every day 🤣
I too hate Denna very much. The story just ANNOYED me so much when it had anything to do with her.
Awww poor Denna 😅
@@LienesLibrary How does she not bother you? XD
@@lesyablackbird I like her well enough and to me it’s just important that Kvothe is really into her, it doesn’t have to make sense to me cuz love rarely makes sense from the outside
@@LienesLibrary For me it was how the book changed around her. The story warped around her and he become SO into her, so I heard about little else, but about her. And its not that its not realistic, but books are not that realistic. One chooses which bits too focus on, even tho life is full of all the info that is unimportant to a story line. As to her portrayal, of it being the only way she could possibly live, how good and special she was, all of that bla. sure people say well he's unreliable narrator and that's how he sees her. But to me, it was the author that CHOSE to write this boring annoying version of her, instead of making her into something more interesting. TOO much of the second half of the book was spent on her.
@@lesyablackbird to me, I felt like Rothfuss captured the obsessive singleminded nature of first love just as well and with equal focus as he portrayed Kvothe’s obsessive love of music - I saw the music and Denna and the choice to spend so many pages on both all as further character development for Kvothe
Do you plan to publish a book or become an author?
Plan isn’t the word I’d use since that’s largely out of my control but I do plan to finish what I’m writing and then see if the world is interested...
@@LienesLibrary all the best!
I have this book just looking at me from my shelf, screaming READ ME, but I am for some reason SUPER intimidated by it!
Probably cuz it’s mega hyped by people like me 🤣🙈
@@LienesLibrary that may be part of it 😂 im scared to not loke it! But then im scared to love it bc of the whole 3rd book thing
@@TheBookishMom don’t be scared to hate it - I hate popular stuff all the time 😂 - and if you love it, you’ll be glad to know they are designed to be reread, ie Rothfuss has said wrote them in a way that you can’t pick up things the first time because you don’t know yet what to look for, and then the second book makes you look for even more things in the first and second books that you didn’t know to look for...
@@LienesLibrary that actually makes me feel much better!
I need these recipes lol write a cookbook dammit!!!!
But I never measure anything 🙈
@@LienesLibrary I’m not seeing a problem here lol make it up like max miller on tasting history
Ugh, Denna. What a terrible character that halts all narrative progress when she appears. Neither her nor Kvothe are any use when they are together. They must be kept apart at all costs.
I agree that Rothfuss's writing is excellent but that's how he lures you under his bearded spell, forgetting that the last book in this series came out TWO HUNDRED YEARS AGO.
You can’t rush genius!
Never read the name in the wind but maybe I should?
I mean, I think everyone should read it haha
What do you use to brew your coffee?
A ceramic pour over maker from Starbucks
