Wow! Steps with the lyrics to the “I’m a Toys R Us Kid” song on them. Warms my heart with nostalgia. I hope they can come back everywhere! This is a great comeback 🙂 Great video WallieB!
Thank you for that walkaround! I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a 50 yr old Toys R Us Kid! Toys R Us was a magical place for me as a kid and continued to be into my adulthood as I took my nephew and let him experience it. He has kids now so hopefully the magic will continue!
I grew up with thornsberry and toys R us. They were huge toy stores, thornsberry was around until 1983 then went under they had a monkey as a mascot, toys R us had that graff. Thornsberry was a long time store for years since the late 1940s after WW2 like toys R us was.
It sadly I don't think your average everyday town is going to get a Toys R Us at all because I think Toys R Us now as a company has this idea that they're only building these new Toys R Us stores in certain areas and if your state or your area never gets one then they think oh well an that's the way I they're thinking
Toys R Us kid for life here, grew up in Brooklyn NY. I was lucky, there was one right near my house ( the building is still there , it's a sad reminder ... Can still see it on Google maps ). The website is actually up and running, the plan is to open up inside of certain Macy*s
Hi Wallie and Kayla, I,enjoyed the video of Toys R. Us Store. I, remember Toys R. Us when I was working at Kmart and Meijer. The, Toys R. Us tour, just bought the kid out of me.
I live in NJ and haven't been to the American Dream Mall. There was a huge Toys R Us when I was younger ten minutes from my house. I loved a trip there. I have to go now to this one!
Thanks for the tour of Toys R Us! How exciting is that you both can be experiencing and going back into time. Hopefully that Toys R Us will make a comeback. Love this 😀
Man the stairs with the stores song on it brought me back. I’ll never forget those old commercials and memories of picking out a toy on my birthday. Glad to see them coming back
Toys R US was always cool. I used to save up my Birthday money and Christmas money and would spend it there. I bought video games and mainly Lego's. So many good memories. 😊
Wallie, I apologize for not knowing your name but, THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR FILMING THIS❣️I haven’t had Christmas in years, I don’t have family but, this made me feel a feeling that I haven’t felt since I was 8❣️Thank You!! 😃
From NYC right now I'm in Chicago but maybe when I come back I want to see that mall in New Jersey it looks nice big like the one in Minneapolis Minnesota
Thank you for the memories great to see toys r us back again, now if Kiddie city and Childrens Palace would come back .went to them every xmas at Great Northern Mall North Olmsted Ohio.
I was saddened to see Toys R Us go under. I am happy to see this store. We need more of these stores. I used to shop this store all the time for my nephew when he was growing up!
Thanks Wallie and Kayla for doing the Toys R Us video. Now I'm feeling the magic and I'm not even close to there and now I'm so happy that I'm tearing up it because I'm a Toys R us Kid inside!
It’s cool to see Toys “R” Us coming back I cannot believe how much stuff They can put in a small location I’m hopping they more Locations can be Built I Remember when I was a kid shopping at Toys “R” Us Going through I’ll to I’ll Shopping for video games Games and other things Toys “R” Us remind me of my childhood Those were some good times Hoping they can come back to my area
Plz can you make a videos about the abandoned toys"r"us in Pittsburg California & the abandoned sears at the somersville towne center mall in Antioch California?
I went to that store every time I visited New York. I don't think they'll ever be able to open there as New York has the worst retail space prices I've seen. It's insane seeing so many closed/boarded up shops and buildings because the rent has priced everyone out.
I wasn't a Toys R Us kid, but I grew up with its predecessor. What I miss are stationery and bookstores. My favorite toys were pens and books. Any of those stores you could find? Hello Tokyo is one such place that seems to have multiple locations.
Well at least it appears the American Dream Mall seems to be doing fairly well lately (knowing how long it took for this place to be completed which started almost 20-years-ago!) Let's hope for the best for this mall.
This updated look TRU seems wonderful (I was a customer of both TRU and Kay Bee in the '80s and '90s), but being the new operators have so few stores of this size (I believe as of 4/2022 the NJ store is STILL THE ONLY ONE), as all the others are the "store-within-a-store" inside Macys, which itself is in not-so-solid financial condition, so I don't expect much positive results anytime soon. It's not just us as consumers (and ex-TRU Kids) that need them, but THE TOY MAKING COMPANIES need them EVEN MORE, as online sales and toys sold in Walmart and Target are not enough. The reason is THE REAL TRU bought in a way different from other toy retailers and department stores... Everyone programmed purchases through the year to have for the Holiday Season (a real problem now that most toys come from China and their supply chain is CHOKED for various reasons), but TRU made ANOTHER PURCHASE CYCLE to be delivered much closer to the Holiday Season. This guaranteed that TRU wouldn't run out of toys in the last week or so before the end of the Season, unlike everybody else. And parents KNEW that and went straight to TRU if they couldn't find their choices elsewhere. That's the difference... You "could" buy it cheaper, but TRU made the purchase possible. And, be honest, most of what TRU sells are "impulse purchases", something you can't do online or on Target or Walmart. We need HUNDREDS of well positioned (and stocked enough) TRU stores and a well managed central office (that won't incur in EXCESSIVE CORPORATE DEBT, as the last owners did). FOR OUR AND OUR KIDS SAKE... (let Lego, Mattel and Hasbro "hitchhike" from this)
I would love to see this incorporated into dying malls to help them trigger more foot traffic. It wouldn't completely solve their financial struggles but it would help. I miss Toys R Us so much. Fond memories. Except this one stepped foot into the 21st century!
Thats just the direction retail has moved lately. More stores have adopted the open air displays and less of the familiar yet droll long straight aisles we grew up with.
Did you know in the United States Macy's has Toys R Us inside I dare you to check it out for yourself cuz I did and oh my God I was super freaking excited
Toys R Us (the original chain) was originally part of the same company as TOPPS discount department stores! TOPPS was actually NOT related to the baseball card company with the same name. There were TOPPS stores scattered all over America in the late 60's, but the chain went out of business in 1974. They were in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, and even in parts of IOWA but never had very many stores in any of those regions. The Philadelphia and Chicago metro areas both had only two of the stores, and in both of those regions, the pair of stores were about 40 miles apart from one another. Sadly the two Philadelphia stores were only open from 1970 to 1972! Both of them were turned into S KLEIN department stores (S KLEIN was a New York chain which was very similar to the legendary EJ KORVETTE chain) but then the S KLEIN chain went out of business in 1975 anyway! Such a shame that Walmart and Target are the only true American "discounters" that exist today! There were DOZENS of discount department store chains in America (especially in the Northeastern states) back in the 60's, but gradually they all went out of business (usually after bankruptcies) finally ending with the closure of AMES almost 20 years ago. Ironic that KMART (which historically was a FIERCE competitor that helped put MANY of their rivals out of business) has become almost extinct, joining all those old competitors in the graveyard! Even though Kmart waited until 2002 to declare bankruptcy (the FIRST time, before their disastrous merger with Sears) they actually had come close to bankruptcy in 1995. Kmart closed over 70 stores in 1995, including some stores which were fairly new at the time (there was one in Texas which was only open from 1992 to 1995!) Considering the explosive growth of both Walmart and Target in the 80's, it really was a miracle that Kmart didn't go out of business in 1995! Ironically, Kmart left CANADA in 1998 (despite WOOLCO lasting much longer in Canada than in the USA) even though they logically should have gone out of business in the USA, while staying in Canada instead! Anyway, maybe TARGET would have had better luck in Canada if they had bought the Kmart stores in 1998 (similar to how Walmart entered Canada by buying WOOLCO in 1994) instead of buying the ZELLERS chain, and failing miserably in Canada soon afterwards! Maybe the AUSTRALIAN Kmart chain (which STARTED as part of the American Kmart/Kresge chain, but was sold to a local Australian company in the 80's) can come to Canada someday, and eventually America too! The Aussie Kmart would seem to fit nicely in England too! That would be a great alternative to the British ASDA stores which are owned by Walmart!
Wow! Steps with the lyrics to the “I’m a Toys R Us Kid” song on them. Warms my heart with nostalgia. I hope they can come back everywhere! This is a great comeback 🙂
Great video WallieB!

We need more toys R us stores like this. Walking into a toy store make me feel like a kid again.

Love that they had the precise number of steps to do the entire toys R us jingle
It's cool to see Toys-R-Us back even if it's just the one store. Hope they're successful and are able to expand in the future.
I hope they expand 😀

It's a nice store but I still prefer the old ones which were like a giant supermarket of toys.
Thanks for the tour of Toys R Us!
How exciting is that you both can be experiencing and going back into time. Hopefully that Toys R Us will make a comeback.
Love this 😀
Wonder if they have any Masters of the Universe stuff in there? Always loved picking out a new He-Man figure as a kid in the mid 80s at Toys R Us.
That is so awesome.
Man the stairs with the stores song on it brought me back. I’ll never forget those old commercials and memories of picking out a toy on my birthday. Glad to see them coming back

Fantastic video ! Thanks for sharing ! Have to admit, when you were walking up the stairs reciting the jingle, I got a little teary eyed.
That's one advanced building design. Hope they make more Toys r Us. Thank you for the amazing tour. Glad you bought slime. Cool.

Great Job Wallie. This Toys “R” Us reminds me of the one that I went to in Times Square back in 2010. Keep up the great work. Love your videos.

Geoffrey: "My death was greatly exaggerated."

I’m getting some Five Below vibes
Thats just the direction retail has moved lately. More stores have adopted the open air displays and less of the familiar yet droll long straight aisles we grew up with.
