Thanks for the video! Originally only bought the mid and rear plates. Installed them right after I got the car then found out the front “skid plate” was a farce and am installing my front one today. Appreciate you posting your install, will make installing mine even easier!
I decided I'm going to make these myself while using these as a design inspiration, so I can avoid the steep cost! I know someone with an industrial laser cutter. Will be able to weld those brackets and rivet them to the plate. The only challenge will be those vents
Was thinking. By the time you buy 3/16 aluminum plate and have someone cut it, weld it, bend it and not to mention make sure all your mounting points are correct it might be cheaper to buy them. Just my opinion. Metal isn't cheap these days. Good luck and thanks for watching.
@@madmattsubieman9807 the guy I know has the aluminum on hand at his shop. He would just need to cut it and help me bend the plate. The mounting point placement is actually significantly easier than originally expected, as it takes the same mounting points as that H bracket already on the car from the factory. So just line it up with that and you're good!
I bought my wilderness a month or so ago assumes I had steel skid plates but look and they were all plastic. Extremely upset def not how marketed, besides that car is amazing!
I believe they originally were steel, made in Russia. Once Russia invaded Ukraine, sanctions and/or supply issues made the plates unavailable, and they came up with the plastic replacement.
I have a 21 Limited XT I’ve been thinking about doing this to. Now I know I’m going to do it!! Im also thing about the Nameless exhaust back also. I mean after all, it’ll be up on ramps anyway. 😁. Thanks for the information and inspiration!!

@@Gio-ev5ne I'm gonna try and fab something here in the next week or so. I was thinking of getting some aluminum and bend to fit. I would use some cardboard as a template.
@@madmattsubieman9807 thank you for the reply! Last night was thinking of using a rubber sheet that I will use the retaining clips then bend it with the front skids then clamp too.
@@Gio-ev5ne ya after you message me I was looking at the factory plastic skid plates and started thinking that the sides of those can be cut off to fit and use the factory holes and clips. Should be able to use the 3 holes that come in the Primitive racing skid plates. We are heading out camping for a week so I will have to monkey around with that when we get back. Will post a video on camping and trail driving along with the side of skidplates.
What is the name of company that makes the skid plates ??. I'm glad I found your video. When I go to get Wilderness I will show the General Manger this. Apparently the torque spec wasn’t enough and had to add more to it and that eliminated the creaking issue, also have you ever thought of just cutting th oem skid plate to cover up the side opening?
@@Pogee941 yup, I did cut them and put them on and took them to clean under and haven't put them back on. Lol. I will be checking torque specs before our trip coming up.
I had a chat with them and mentioned there are plans on fabrication of side splash shield but it won’t be for another months no ETA but it’s good to know it’s on there list because am considering cutting it for sure specialy when Fall seasons starts!
Subaru really deceived people with that front skid. I might replace mine, but this is definitely not a forever car for me so I'm not sure if I care. I miss the ruggedness of my 4R and Jeeps. This car is basically a giant piece of plastic, but it sure is nice to drive once you learn the quirkiness of the CVT.
Well they may of not deceived people but they sure changed the front skid plate from all steel to plastic without any notification to buyers. So take that as you like. Thanks for your comment.
Where can we buy skid plates for our 19 Outback with the 2.5 liter naturally aspirated engine? We want to buy skid plates for the engine, oil pan and rear differential.
Ours are Primitive racing. There is Rallitek, I believe LP Adventure. Those are top 3 I can think of. Check there web sites. Also Rallitek check on Orbis overlanding site
Its air vent to let the turbo stay cooler. Dont see any problem with the primitive skidplates. Plenty of cool air get under them. Just got back from a 1300 mile off road trip and no problems.
Curious if you're anywhere near Denver, CO? I've purchased all 3 plates, don't have a lift or experience to have confidence to attempt myself and having a tough time finding anyone local who's installed these before or who are willing to quote me.
Sorry on that. I'm in Michigan. They are really easy to do. Follow the video and I'm sure you wouldn't have any problem. You can do it with car ramps on the ground. Any question I can answer I will be happy to. They are really simple to do.
