A bit of wisdom from a 68-year-old that learnt the hard way. I am on a fixed income and have over the past year and a half been buying up meat and frozen vegetables that had good sales prices and storing them in my chest freezer located in my enclosed garage. Recently, I lost everything in that freezer when the freezer stopped working. I would usually get a meat out to thaw in the refrigerator at least once or twice a week. One day I went to get me some meat out of the freezer and everything in it was thawed and warm. So, I lost several hundreds of my stocked-up prepper items. I cannot afford another freezer as this one was given to me nor could I afford a generator. Believe me when I say, I cried. But I used this as a lesson. It was better for me to experience this now instead of when the store shelves are truly empty, and no meats or vegetables can be found. I have seen many news broadcasts that give worrying details about how poor the entire grid system is and how there will be power outages on a grand scale if something is not done about it now. Well as far as I can tell, nothing is being done about it. Even my local TV station has made mention of power outages are inevitable in our area. I have decided on another course and that is buying up canned meats and vegetables and canned food items that are considered a meal by itself. For instance, Brunswick stew, Stew beef, Chili, corn beef hash, etc. I hope this helps someone.

Canned food that can be eaten cold is a good idea.
I am sorry you lost all that food. Do you have Ball jars or Kerr jars that you can can the food yourself and make it shelf stable? I do one pound of chicken breast raw in chunks in a pint Ball jar. I can fit 12 at the same time in my stock pot. Put the filled jars in the pot then fill the pot up with water. Bring it to a boil and keep it boiling for 3 hours. Then shut the pot off and let the jars cool.off in the hot pot. Take them out and set it on the table to continue cooling down. Those jars will be good for a few years. Mark the date on the lid with a sharpie. There are many u tube channels that do waterbath canning. I just did, beef stew, unstuffed peppers, unstuffed cabbage rolls, beef chili, pulled pork, plain pork etc... I bought 60lbs of pork shoulder with bone in. Deboned it cut it into chunks. Seasoned it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika. Sliced up onions and a few pieces of garlic. Each jar had onions and crushed garlic at the bottom and stuffed the rest with the seasoned pork and 1 bayleaf per jar. Put the lid/ring on, and water bathed it for 3 hours. I have about 45 pints of seasoned pork that I can add to either rice or pasta or egg noodles. Meal in a jar that's great for years. This is how my grandma did it. She canned fish, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, rabbit and shrimp... Plus a whole bunch of other food too.
You can always go to ypur local food bank. They don't ask for income, but they will want an ID so they can see you live near by. Check it out online for your county.
Thisnthat, sorry but that is bad advice on the proper way to can. Meat and veggies must be canned in a pressure canner to be safe. Regardless of how long you boil water, it will only reach 212 degrees. Meat and veggies needs 239-250 degrees and for only 75-90 minutes for meat depending on jar size. Vegetables 30-90 minutes depending in the vegetable and jar size. Also you need to remove the jars from the canner 5-10 minutes after the lid is removed when the pressure has reached zero. Not doing so can lead to flat sour.
If you want to risk your life and your families life to botulism then that I'd your business. But please don't instruct new canners on how to do it. Please.
@@thisnthattalks1153sorry but meat needs to be pressure canned to kill bacteria. Anything else may appear safe but it is not for long term. I’m all for canning your food for long term storage but so it wisely.

I am back. I was essentially away from the world, away from news, stores, and social media for 10 days until today, being in the hospice ward at the VA hospital with my brother. (My brother passed away this morning and I am back home.) I was ready to go because I had sufficient clothing, (and kept my laundry clean), extra toiletries, non-perishable foods, etc, that I could quickly take with me. PREPPING can handle every contingency in life,I have found.
The illegals were brought into our country and other countries to destabilize our culture and keep people fighting among ourselves .If the companies who hired illegals had gotten more than a slap on the wrists, if indeed that much, they would not have come.Granted, not only workers are entering the country NOW. The US has been ESCALATING the war and 'we' are backing some bad crap. We are headed by all of this, AS PLANNED, to One World Government.

Businesses are closing down because it's too expensive to run . 2 pizza places close down in my area due to the price of food, the lack of customers coming in , paying employees, utilities and rent to expensive.
There going to be a lot more businesses closing down because people just can't afford it.
I know I can't afford to eat out at any place anymore. Last fast food I bought was a frosty at Wendy's and that was almost a year ago. I don't use my AC and, in the winter, my heat is set at 55. Just glad I don't have to deal with humidity as well. Two meals a day and breakfast is always a bagel. It is hard for retired folks now.

@@xo2quilt If you can possibly do it, could you set the heat a little higher when winter comes? Older people have a hard time regulating body temperature. Could you apply for lHEAP in your state?, to help with the heat bill.
@@benton-benton I wear long underwear, many layers and sweats. I seem to live in my beanie in the winter too. I stay warm enough. I do have heating pads and heaters if I want to use them. I could put it higher, I don't like to waste the money. In 2020, I kept the house at 75 all year long and it was about the same amount that I pay for the 55 in the winter and up to 89 in the summer. The non-inflation the current admin talks about.

I have my own garden , and when I get a lot of something , like cucumbers 🥒 I post for FREE in my neighborhood FB pages , just had a nice young man stop and pick of 4 huge cucumbers 😊 for him and his family that just moved to our area .

There are many people out there that want to look at the things that are happening as just political and economical problems. In the Bible, when the prophets were given the visions of our time period it was taken into account all of the financial and political problems that would occur and the events that would lead up to certain prophecies being fulfilled. We are definitely in the time period where there are "wars and rumors of wars". Ultimately, we are in a spiritual battle in this world and more often than not the spiritual ailments of the days are not taken into account how they affect things. We are definitely in a time period where "evil is called good, and good is called evil". The prophet Isaiah mentions this and many other prophets also mention it. I really wish there were easy solutions to problems of the day and that suffering could be minimized, but we are just on the edges of the storm right now.
If you want to keep your local mom and pop store in business...spend some money there. Ours has the best beef prices in town when on sale. They use locally sourced beef and butcher it there.

Yes it's getting worse day by day. Kind of thinking that when the sale flyer comes out You Only Buy What's on SALE. That's it! Then you go to the next store and do the same thing. Just buy what's on sale.
Come home and plan meals around what you bought on sale.
It's one strategy that can help you.
That’s what I do but within reason. Chips might be on sale and bananas are the regular price. I will choose bananas over potato chips. Buy what’s on sale but focus on nutritional content of what you buy.
I check all the store sales if it’s what I use I buy the sales and stock up then if I’m short on other things I buy one or two I need that way I save and can buy other items not on sale one or two at a time I know prices well and watch expiration dates closely especially sale items if short dated I don’t buy
I think between the three of us we have done our best work on how to save money at the Grocery store..stock up and feed the family

I have been shopping the way you mentioned for many many years. It helped me raise my children. I still use this strategy. Also when shopping sales, always pick up 2 or more of each item on sale if you can. 😊
I just saw that Big Lots is closing over 300 stores. This is a shame. People on limited incomes shop at those types of discount stores.

If you let in millions through "legal" immigration like Justin Trudeau did, you cannot even see the doctor anymore as he's put his newcomers in line first. It was also a means for the banks and property investors to make big money by artificially keeping the cost of homes sky-high. Average cost of a home in Toronto is over a whopping millions dollars now.

I don't watch the mainstream news. I prefer to watch channels like yours for the news. So I personally will say that I appreciate your work and the multiple videos that you put out daily. You really keep me informed! Out of all of the channels that I watch that are siimilar to yours I must say YOURS IS MY FAVORITE. What I like most about your channel is that you keep politics off of your channel and when you do mention it you do it in such a TASTEFUL way. Several of the channels I watch that are similar to yours (I wont say any names) they really make me dislike them every time it is a voting year. We don't always have to agree. Whether you vote for red, blue, yellow, purple, or orange I just always feel like things can be respectful and without all the name calling etc etc etc and most channels cant seems to operate in that manner but you do an absolute amazing job keeping that type of foolery away from your channel and I for one appreciate that!

In reality, we’ve been in a silent depression for the last two years! Due to people living on their credit cards and the Government silencing the actual inflation and unemployment numbers!😢
Some job hours are being cut in half in order to hire more people. At one job each person can only train another person who looks like them. One night a guy got on the bus only to be told he had to sit on a certain side of the bus. As far as food goes…..everything will get ugly when there’s not enough food to go around. Help the children and the one’s who cannot fend for themselves. Be ready to help the animals as well.
People would be eating their animals (wild, feral and domestic) out of desperation. Not something I'm looking forward to and hope it won't happen.

If you go to the bank or ATM go early during bank hours only. Don't go when the bank is closed. People are watching. They either want to rob you or hit you up for money If the bank closes at 6:00pm and you get there at 6:15pm don't do it. Be there in the middle of the day between noon and 3pm

(#4.) Try To: Cook a meal, Lights? Wash your body, respond to an injury, how will you communicate or get news? What about security... Can you fix/block 2 or 3 broken windows? DO THE TEST

i spoke with a friend today (8-6-2024) told me how bare shelves were getting. she went to 4 stores and BJ wholesale and was totally disappointed...freezer section at BJ's had major issues and roped off. she cans and found vineger GONE at all 5 stores. snacks were plentiful along with flour. now i live in Detroit MI and she lives in Newark NJ. i think you are right Danno we need to INCREASE our stock-up like NOW!!
I feel a large portion of Americans are getting to their breaking point with this inflation. How long can people keep living off credit cards? We are fortunate to pay our credit card off every month, but many do not. I keep stocking up on food the best I can. I would advise everyone to add Alittle more to their current preps, if you can.
Shop at employee owned stores or Mom and Pop stores. STOP GIVING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO BIG CORPORATIONS!

I'm trying to get back into prepping again. For the last year that was on the back burner with so many things going on in my personal life. I've been starting to get some can food and peanut butter and make sure my cats have plenty of food.

If grocery stores close, for whatever reason, it is good to have food, toilet paper, soaps, etc. stored.
Other people will be going to that lake, and will be hostile. Prepare and bug in as long as possible instead of bugging out. You can only do that for so long.

Best prepper food storage advice IMO is to store what you eat and eat what you store. I failed at that when I first started in 1999. I didn't rotate well enough and some food went bad. But I had a pantry full of it.
I bought food I didn't like because everyone said to store sardines. I wouldn't touch a sardine with a 10 foot pole. Yet there I had 2 cases of them.
See what is in your pantry, that you actually use, and double up on it. Search other people's lists but use them only as a reminder of things you will use. Your list should be tailor made to you. I still regret buying knox gelatin, vanilla pudding mix and evaporated milk. I never used any of it. But the Mormons said to so...

I have 3 cats and a parrot. I store LOTS of canned tuna. My cats will eat it if there is no kibble. I also pressure can mostly meat, with beans, rice, pasta, ramen & flours in buckets and heavy-duty (black and yellow) bins.
Humans need 50g protein per day, and the rest is fluff. Cats are obligate carnivores. Parrots eat everything/ anything.

I always say that I am prepared. If I never need it for anything (power outage, job loss, disability, etc.), then I have food to eat that I paid a lot less for than it is now! I don't want to have to use it for an emergency, but at least I have it. It isn't dumb to prepare; it's "lifestyle insurance," as Alaska Granny likes to say. And when something crazy happens, it will give us a little time to plan the next move without being in a panic. No, I'm not sorry for prepping. Everyone should try to prepare the best they can, and try to find like-minded people nearby who can be a source of support. The number one preparation should be knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. If you don’t know Him, it won't matter what you have prepared.🙏✝️❤️

Learn skills too. Learn to can to preserve, dehydrate food for storage, and cooking from scratch. I stock mostly ingredients so I can make my own. So many things can be made if you have the right stuff on hand. Print out recipes to keep on hand. We may not always have the internet. Just a few thoughts.
Very good advice. I thought I could remember simple recipes but after a few years of not making them, I found I had forgotten how. Write or print things out on paper. I can (process food) the same things year after year, yet I have to look up the proper time every single time I can. I have it all handy in my computer but if the grid goes down I'd be stuck.

I have been stocking up for a few yrs, and recently I have been getting a few extra things each week. And even buying a small stockpile for my sister.
And definitely getting extra food for my pets. I have chickens and I always make sure to have 2 bags of food at all times. I see so many friends at work that are still asleep. Scary. In some European countries it is mandated that all left over good is donated to those in need. They are not allowed to throw out. It should be that way everywhere.
And here, fast food and grocery stores throw out so much! One guy sued KFC because he choked on a chicken bone, so they decided they have to throw away the food now. So damn wrong.

@lynncrooks64 I agree with you about being kind and giving if able or feel led to. Giving should come from the heart. If it's forced, people will have resentment and anger. In my opinion, I think the biggest issue in the U.S. is all the possibilities for lawsuits due to food related illnessess. Imagine if a restaurant unknowingly gave away listera/e.coli/salmonella tainted lunch meat/salad/meat/eggs, etc and someone became seriously ill or died? The business would be sued and the owner would probably lose everything. No good deed goes unpunished as the saying goes.

We have high prices is because of greed the billionaires like the groceries it's flooding, fires, drout but a lot of drout. And legal migration yes I agree but people are having bad things happen all over the world.

I have been buying the sales and getting a few extra items each week for several years now. i have done the same with hygiene items, paper products, over the counter meds, and general household goods such as batteries, flashlights, oil lamps, garden tools and such. It has taken awhile but it can be done on a budget. I now have started ordering a powdered or dehydrated item each week. This week I got a cannister of powdered butter. I watch Amazon closely and those items sometimes fall $15 or $20 and when they do I jump on them. I have concerns about our power always being available with all the insane things going on in the world, so don't go heavy on stocking the freezer. Find another source Folks to get the real news about all going on. The media has their own agenda and it not about keeping us informed or allowing us to form our opinions based on the facts. Danno ,I just got back from shopping,i just went out to get a few ingredients to make potato salad and burritos,i got so upset i left both stores without buying any food,i simply have to buy smart,my disabled son lives with me so i pretty much pay for most household inventory as his disability covers not much,i can't just spend 40 bucks on a meal,so i will wait and hit the sales next week,we are cutting out ingredients,no cheese or sour cream on the mexican ,just basics now

A good friend of mine he lives in Chicago and he was just telling me yesterday there are so many illegals that were shipped to Chicago that when he goes to the grocery store there are a minimum of 7-10 illegals plus all the homeless people there is just everybody around the entrance and exits to the grocery stores begging for help.😢

He said I am not financing $30,000 so you can get me a lower payment, he finally said I'm done, dont need it today, thanks for trying...the big guy come running lol, bottom line he walked out with financing the amount he wanted, got the 12% interest to 8% and a $300 payment.
