I love the fact Steve is dressed like he came to the show from a backyard barbeque. His show is about the songs, the music. No costumes or makeup, no dance troupe, flash pots or laser light show. Just sit back and enjoy the music.
When Traffic released this song on their album Mr Fantasy it was the year I became a teenager ( my 13th birthday), 1967. I'm now 66 with three grown up kids and five grandchildren and this just seems like yesterday. The sixties were the best.
36 humans on this planet down voted that. What in the F were they expecting? To have Angel's fly down and carry them to heaven? They got pretty damn close you know?
Steve Windwood doesn't look like a Rock star, but he is and has written some of the greatest rock songs. I feel blessed to have been here to see and hear it.
What you talk'n about Willis? This man established his career before he was 19...not even close to drinking age. He is anything except old. However, age doesn't matter when it comes to talent!
Steve, I have been listening to you since The Spencer Davis Group and Blind Faith eras. You are still beyond excellent in every way ! Your voice and guitar playing are legendary ! Thank you for all your music the last 55 years !
The original Steve Winwood and Traffic "Mr Fantasy" with Dave Mason on lead was a remarkable piece of music by Jim Capaldi, and at 70 , still my "Best of" from the Sixties, was 16 when it was produced, life was "pretty interesting" in Berkeley at the time, for all of us really, and the music wasn't a "luxury".... This here?, is a stunning reminder that Steve Winwood is and always will be a musical force to be reckoned with and enjoyed
It was within a popular music 'Renaissance' period in time, indeed..!!! And when bands stood out, sounding different from one another, yet so many equally as great as the next..!
Such a gifted musician and awesome vocalist from his early Teens even! And then a killer resurgance of "High LIfe" , Grammy award winner. For those 62 with a thumbs down I hardly find it hardly necessary to reply other than to say you must have been deeply sheltered to Real Rock n Roll & Blues all your life! Turn up the volume & enjoy legenderay RnR that will live on to eternity unlike one hit wonders!!
I first saw him live in 1969 with Blind Faith in their only tour supporting their only album. My God ... what a show! Delaney and Bonnie was the "warm-up act". I saw Stevie a few times over the later years. A rare talent indeed.
Saw Steve Winwood and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers play at the Gorge Amphitheater in George Washington around 8 years ago. What a concert that was. Awesome Venue as well.
Growing up. My house was full of sounds from TRAFFIC ,, SMALL FACES. WHO ,,, HENDRIX ,,, STONES … DOORS. STONE PONY ,,, AND SO MANY INNOVATIVE MUSIC ,,,, MR FANTASY ALBUM ,,,WOW ,,, Gx
His voice is unique, and you never tire of listening to it. His vocal quality is similar to Peter Gabriel after he left Genesis. I'd love to see a show in which they perform together, singing each other's compositions.
Clapton has invited Steve to at least two crossroads festivals. They do Mr fantasy together and then Steve does it without Eric. Both are awesome performances. The sound setup is top notch with two drummers. Steve's abilities shine no matter the circumstances
Steve manages to make it sound like he is playing lead guitar, rhythm and bass all at once. And what an imagination!!! Those solos just get better and better. No wonder Jimi Hendrix thought so highly of him - and for me Jimi is THE guitarist of all time.
I love the timing...starts out really SLOW...and starts to BUILD.....Rock/Roll hall of famer rocking with a couple young dudes..they must be TRIPPING...drummer does a great job.
It's sad that too many people don't know the impact that Steve had on the music world. But, on the other hand, if you're ever in a bar, BS'ing with somebody and they know the Winwood catalog, just know that they understand good music and have a good conversation.
Traffic and its lead singer/keyboardist/guitarist Steve Winwood (solo) are nothing short of rock royalty and this is much much before this song got featured in Avengers Endgame .This peerless musician joined his first band -Spencer Davis Group as a teen prodigy vocalist singing like Ray Charles in mid 60s. Winwood jammed with Hendrix and a member of short lived but awesome Blind Faith which had Eric Clapton as lead guitarist and Cream's Ginger baker
Endlessly stoned 50 years ago listening to a perfect song by the best voice in rock. No longer quite so stoned but appropriately medicated and this version is one of the best ever. Roll on Steve
Every child of God Counts it takes all of our Holy Spirit to become one Light of the world Jesus Christ is the Way The Truth The Life The Light of the World. 5:05
Reyes Jr went full on beast mode, that was awesome. Steve Winwood is so great, underrated if anything, I have always enjoyed his work. My dad turned me on to this performance, just perfection, what's not to like?
I was at this show in 2004 with my future son-in-law who got us free tickets through some guy he knew that worked at WTTW. I've always been a huge fan going back to Spencer Davis, and have most of Steve's albums and this was an unbelievable show as it's filmed in a studio that holds about 300 or so. One of the best concerts I've ever seen!
@hellostranger Arc Of The Diver, or the Higher Love album... But any Traffic album (quite varied from one to the other) is a good choice. And... the eponymous Blind Faith album is a 'must experience' as well..! Also, there is a DVD attached to the album/CD, Winwood & Clapton, Live At Madison Square Garden from a very limited short tour with the two of them... a great music documentary of that revisit performance with intermittent interviews of each of them separately, discussing their relationship as friends and collaborators. The album is terrific... and the DVD is an 'award worthy' documentary in my humble opinion.
Never tire of hearing this song. The final (effortless) wail on guitar displays what a master of the instrument Mr. Winwood truly is. Not bad for a bloke noted for playing keyboards, eh? And how valiant is that drummer? Chanelling his inner Jim Capaldi, or what?
Every performance of this song sounds different. His guitar solo really nails it this time - one hell of a magnificent duet with the drummer who just gets it. They both make it sound like there's a whole orchestra playing. I've been hearing this song since it first came out, and it mesmerises me to this day each time I listen to it. Pure magic. Thank you thank you thank you.
Great performance! I kept looking for the bass player, but that must have been the keyboardist playing both bass and organ :) Love the finale with the drums and guitar. Just outstanding musicianship.
I just saw Winwood April 18th at the Chicago Theater. He played this and all old music except Higher love. I remember 7 songs, but would still like to see the playlist. It was expensive but worth it.
I m an old hippie from Steve's days with "Traffic"........I always appreciate and marvel at his performances........btw, the drummer is just sick ( in a good way ) !
1-6-2024 Earth Quake are starting and Floods and the evil is droping and soon all will care for one another and show their Light of the Holy Spirit of Jesus and make one Light together for His Children.
I couldn’t keep up very nice very well done the whole time the best place in town He sang the guitar sang and the whole place was a jumping drumming 🥁 fun place 🥁 💃
Thanks for your never ending love for great musicianship, great songs and stories over the years ….. I’m a big fan Steve …. Born in 1959 I started playing the drums at the age of 5 and was all over your music as a child. Now 64 and still can’t get enuf of your compositions…❤️🥁🦅❤️🥁🦅
I have been guided back to this song from many years ago when I first heard it. I loved it then and still do! I’m 69 years old now and I wonder if it was tuned to 440Hz? If so I’d love to hear it tuned and played tuned to 432Hz,God’s frequency! I’m willing to bet it would blow your mind!
I love the fact Steve is dressed like he came to the show from a backyard barbeque. His show is about the songs, the music. No costumes or makeup, no dance troupe, flash pots or laser light show. Just sit back and enjoy the music.
Brilliant still even after 50 yrs. A real classic. Wonderful unique voice. Great rock song.
One of the greatest musicians ever, still has same voice, incredible, one of a kind
I agree with you 100% this song, OMG is best and "P early Queen, " too.
Steve if you see this...The USA LOVES YOU!
The older I get, the more I appreciate Steve Winwood. The guy is incredibly talented and has been performing at a high level for many, many years
Same here.
Me too!!
When Traffic released this song on their album Mr Fantasy it was the year I became a teenager ( my 13th birthday), 1967. I'm now 66 with three grown up kids and five grandchildren and this just seems like yesterday. The sixties were the best.
I wasn't a big fan of his 80's pop output (although Arc Of A Diver is enjoyable), but I adore the rest of his work, especially Traffic.
I agree 100%.
While nobody can steal a show from Steve Winwood, his drummer, Walfredo Reyes Jr, comes pretty damn close!
yes
People forget what a great guitarist he is. A real Hendrix-like tone and feel.
Insane Greatness Here in 2024 .
This young guy on the guitar wears only 67 years here...music is undoubtedly the best remedy for ageing
Even at his age he still absolutely kills it. What a talent.
I agree with you. Talented in deed.
absolutely kills it
What you talk'n about Willis? This man established his career before he was 19...not even close to drinking age. He is anything except old. However, age doesn't matter when it comes to talent!
Got that right.
He keeps me alive
Steve Winwood ladies and gentlemen. Master Musician/Songwriter/Artist.
Steve, I have been listening to you since The Spencer Davis Group and Blind Faith eras. You are still beyond excellent in every way ! Your voice and guitar playing are legendary ! Thank you for all your music the last 55 years !
RIP Spencer Davis..!

Strange, as far as I know, and what do I know, Winwood played lead on Dear Mr Fantasy and Mason played bass.
I'm glad I was a teenager in the 70s, so many good tunes!! Exceptional musician, brilliant track!
It was within a popular music 'Renaissance' period in time, indeed..!!! And when bands stood out, sounding different from one another, yet so many equally as great as the next..!
DMF. Pound for pound best lyrics in rock and roll IMO.
Same feeling I get when I hear here comes Sunshine
Holy Moly, the guys is still killing it. What treasure Steve Winwood is.
That may have been the best use of eight and a half minutes I done all month.
Mrs. Who Live and Loves Jesus Christ Our God that sees the future and past.
Such a gifted musician and awesome vocalist from his early Teens even! And then a killer resurgance of "High LIfe" , Grammy award winner.

Who else could play base, rhythm, and lead guitar?
Wow 😮
And keyboard.
Dave Grohl
s anyone here, who is aware how good Steve Winwoos is ? - outstanding performance and talent.
Super awesome Winwood, great as usual, and a lot of fun to hear him sing and play.
I first saw him live in 1969 with Blind Faith in their only tour supporting their only album. My God ... what a show! Delaney and Bonnie was the "warm-up act". I saw Stevie a few times over the later years. A rare talent indeed.
I saw him and Blind Faith in '69 too. I think to this day it was the best concert I have ever seen
Saw Steve Winwood and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers play at the Gorge Amphitheater in George Washington around 8 years ago. What a concert that was. Awesome Venue as well.
Wow that must have been amazing and at the Gorge! Excellent venue to enjoy any concert
I would "thumbs up" this 100 times if I could.
The thing I like best is the way he uses his unique voice.
One of the BEST songs EVER ! ! ! This folks is what a Master Guitarist / Vocalist sounds like!
Not many musicians that can compose on both piano and guitar the way Winwood does , A rare breed indeed !
...and be this great of a vocalist... zlso..!
And mandolin
I was in 7th grade when i 1st heard Trafffic and I've been in love ever since
Yeah, he's among my "heroes"... cut his teeth on that big bad Hammond, but absolutely shredding that Fender Strat! A rock legend rolls on... .
Love this song, great guitar work and drumming. Doesn't get any better than that. Winwood is unreal on that guitar; timeless!!
patfromjersey indeed and everyone considers him a keyboard player. Live he plays four or five. Instruments like they're his specialty
Eric Clapton considers Steve Winwood an absolute brilliant guitar player..!
Clapton has invited Steve to at least two crossroads festivals. They do Mr fantasy together and then Steve does it without Eric. Both are awesome performances. The sound setup is top notch with two drummers. Steve's abilities shine no matter the circumstances
Oh yes..timeless!!
Steve is right up there with the best and all top musician's know that he has played with all of the best end of.
He always sounds live just like his recordings..That is talent...
he sounded better :)
Note for note on this..!
The bass track was pre recorded
It's sad that too many people don't know the impact that Steve had on the music world. But, on the other hand, if you're ever in a bar, BS'ing with somebody and they know the Winwood catalog, just know that they understand good music and have a good conversation.

Great musicision song writing. Great guitar player
Underrated is an absolute understatement with Steve winwood.
underrated only by those who are unaware.
Every child of God Counts it takes all of our Holy Spirit to become one Light of the world Jesus Christ is the Way The Truth The Life The Light of the World. 5:05
You can always tell real musical talent when the performer can entertain a thousand people, and then go shopping without getting changed.
Reyes Jr went full on beast mode, that was awesome. Steve Winwood is so great, underrated if anything, I have always enjoyed his work. My dad turned me on to this performance, just perfection, what's not to like?
There are no bad versions of this song. Traffic, solo Winwood, or even Mydland of the Grateful Dead, it is damned near bulletproof.
Stands Tall.

Ad CSN do an amazing cover too!
Closet Steve Winwood fan here. Didn't even know he sang this song with Traffic.....mind blown
I saw Steve and Eric Clapton together in Dallas. He more than held his own on guitar. Clapton would stand off to the side and smile.
The Drums are so good at this one too!!!
not a die hard avengers fan but this song made me watch the whole movie....this is a good song.
Wherever and whoever he plays this song with, it always sounds amazing. I absolutely love this song.
One of the greatest music artists of all time from his days at Spencer Davis to now
I’ve seen so many covers of this, but none of them top Winwood in any of his career incarnations. Fabulous as always. And still going...
Well, he was the original you know.
Never see Steve on any best guitarist lists. Is it because he's such a great singer and multi-instrumentalist?
Respect to this man! With no audio tunning or any help... his voice is a true instrument... such a true avenger
Just Wow! Some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard! I knew he was good, but this was spectacular!
Never tire of hearing this song. The final (effortless) wail on guitar displays what a master of the instrument Mr. Winwood truly is. Not bad for a bloke noted for playing keyboards, eh? And how valiant is that drummer? Chanelling his inner Jim Capaldi, or what?
"The final wail on guitar..."
Absolutely Majestic..! The entire piece is, actually.

Great voice with great chords and licks
very respected
Great performance! I kept looking for the bass player, but that must have been the keyboardist playing both bass and organ :) Love the finale with the drums and guitar. Just outstanding musicianship.
Great song. Blew me away when I first heard it in HS in the 1970s and I wrote it down on a list I kept of great music
It's amazing that to this day, he still does the song in the key of A. How is that even possible? You'd think he'd be down to F# by now.
I believe it is in 'D'.
And how about that CREW! Love it all. The drummer killed it!
I just saw Winwood April 18th at the Chicago Theater. He played this and all old music except Higher love. I remember 7 songs, but would still like to see the playlist. It was expensive but worth it.
Wow! I wish I could’ve been there.
Great rendition. I really like that the drums are more in the mix. It really plays to the song.
I m an old hippie from Steve's days with "Traffic"........I always appreciate and marvel at his performances........btw, the drummer is just sick ( in a good way ) !
Agreed. Solid Drumming.
One of my music idols. Could never forget him. I saw him play in concert with Blind Faith-1968/9
Back to Traffic days! Magic.
The hippies were right

The drummer is awesome
What can you say? This song is just very cool.
Memorable Steve! Drummer superlative! Top top top! 👍👍👍👍👍
