    I've had one of these in my basement since 2009. I didn't know how to use it, so it sat and collected dust. After seeing this video, I'm now recording with it! THANK YOU!!!

    Really good explanation. I have just a couple of minor quibbles. 1) When you create a NEW project and select CONTINUE then you get the track settings, etc, for the previous project copied into your new project. If you select RESET then all the track settings are set to system defaults. For beginners, it's probably best to use RESET when creating a new project.
    2) If you record a dry signal then decide later you need an insert effect, you can use the Bounce feature to add the effect and record it onto another track. You can do this as often as you like until you find the best setting. After the bounce you can swap the original with the bounced track if that's more convenient.

      Much thanks for the compliment. I've been pleased with the Zoom R16 so far. FYI, another recorder I used was the Boss digital recorder which was a workhorse for me. After 15 years of hard use it finally stopped working correctly. When I went shopping for a new one, the Zoom appealed to me.

    Simple and clear! First time I watch a "teaching" video from first second to last. Nice Job!

    So, I did a master's in educational psychology. We talk about a number of different sorts of knowledge that are important for a teacher:
    1- subject knowledge ... the stuff they're about to teach
    2- pedagogical knowledge ... how to teach what they're going to teach
    3- target audience knowledge ... who they are teaching to
    Three out of three, mate.
    I watched this as someone with a little experience in R-16 use and then very recently bought one, and I learned more about this thing watching this video than I've been able to focus on in the manual - so, there you go. I found the video entertaining and informative, and seriously well planned. Given where we are, I don't have much in the way of other comment except to echo another commenter here: "ended up watching the entire vid and your teaching style is freakin fantastic" (Carl Geers). You got me past a rather nasty hurdle.
    Oh - and I subbed as well. Thank you for this!

The trio that I play in, we do sort of a jam band, Fusion / blue / Funk sort of thing and we just started recording on 16 track 2 in tape and it just sounded killer! The drums in particular just pop! Do you think that you can get does kind of sounds out of this Zoom R16 unit? I mean I realize there's the cost difference in a quality difference and all that but being digital do you think it can replicate the analog vibe?

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  4 роки тому +2

      I used to record on reel to reel too. Not sure if you can ever duplicate it. The good thing about the Zoom R16 is you have those 8 inputs to record drums and there's an insert effect section called 8X Comp that has some different settings that might be good to record drums.

      stevekonbass Awesome, I went and got one, it's pretty easy to use so far. I'm trying to figure out the algorithms so that I can gate live drums, I don't think there's an easy way around that, so I've just been using it as an interface at the moment. I'll probably use it as a standalone for recording gigs or rehearsals and see if I can mixdown with the built in effects. It seem pretty promising so far.

    Easy to understand for a technical moron like myself. Does this unit come with Cubebase software? Do you upload your individual tracks on the SD card to your pc and then mix and master on cubebase? Thanks!

      Yes it came with a free Cubebase download. You can mix on the Zoom itself or do it on Cubebase

    Man, this is a great set of videos for the R16! Thank you for the time doing these. I usually go to a friends studio, but with COVID 19 (STAY AT HOME) going on here in April 2020, I am pulling this out, search for a tutorial, and found you. I subscribed too! I'll now be able to finish up songs that I am collaborating on.
