    Tal vs Botvinnik 1960
    Moscow
    No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points--a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
    Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than "tricks", Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

    Some interesting story including Tal:
    A couple days ago I’ve been with my neighbor (about 50 years old man), and he told me that his uncle defeated Tal 3 times. That’s a great achievement, but it’s even greater that his uncle is amateur, so never played chess professionally. He defeated Tal when Tal came to Montenegro(Yugoslavia back then) with GM Bozidar Ivanovic, at Zeta river to be more precise.

    Your videos have rekindled a lost love of chess. At best, I’m a poor amateur, so playing isn’t the best of experiences. However, watching your chess board and listening to your explanations/commentary help me learn and enjoy the beauty of the game. Perhaps after watching the rest of your videos, I’ll learn to better think like a decent chess player. Regardless, thank you for the time and effort you spend creating this wonderful content.

      Keep in mind while I love this channel, the host is actually not that strong, probably 1900 Elo, and he's no doubt using an engine, as well as often giving bad reasons or trite reasons for the moves suggested by the engine, showing lack of chess understanding. But it's entertaining.

    I ran into and started watching your videos a couple of weeks ago when my love for chess was reignited and I am glad to say that I have improved already. Today I beat my friend - to whom I lost almost exclusively - with a better play style than I ever had and I even found the right move to beat Tal! Thank you for such high quality videos, wish you all the best :)

      Zephyr Elric Well engines took out some beauty out of it,no more over the board findings and shifts in theory.But i feel Alpha Zero can turn things around and make chess more exciting

    • @kshitijjhalak1939
      @kshitijjhalak1939 6 років тому +9

      Whiners like you will never enjoy anything. People back in Tal's time were whining that analysing chess openings have ruined the game. Besides that if chess was all about rote learning engine moves then we would have a Carlsen coming out of every street.

    • @zephyrelric6442
      @zephyrelric6442 6 років тому +8

      Kshitij Jhalak chill dude I still enjoy modern chess I am only saying that current players rely on engine calculations too much also , the reason Carlsen is able to overcome other Grandmasters is due to his great endgame skills . Basically anyone with a phone can defeat the world champion that is the issue here

    • @antasena1219
      @antasena1219 6 років тому

      Yep rhis is true,e.g look fabi im really sure his calculate everything with engine,and as u can see his game is draw style or if it is not his game like a blind game (full of engine move)

    • @kshitijjhalak1939
      @kshitijjhalak1939 6 років тому +1

      Lol no, you can't defeat Carlsen or any other WC by memorising your phone engine's moves. Even if you could, then that's just accessibility, how can that be a bad thing ?

    I have reached the point in the video where Tal retreats his knight to e8 in the opening. This is so anti-common sense. Black has 0 piece developed, actually he had 1, the knight but now he has brought it back to the last rank, this is not how chess is played, i am pretty sure Tal will lose this game, lets see If I am right, or grandmasters can get away with any moves.
