So essentially all the people complaining the EU is undemocratic should be complaining to their own national governments for always making backroom deals rather than the EU itself.
Well yes, sadly. We often forget that our leaders sit there in different positions. Watch out for our upcoming videos on the European Council and Council of the EU for some more examples of Brussel blaming (and confusing names).
But the EU parliament, the only institution directly elected, can't initiate or amend legislation. So it's not an actual parliament like in other countries like UK/France/Germany. So you can see the criticism.
@ It can actually amend legislation, but indeed it cannot propose it directly. We do think this is a democratic deficit in the EU, because like you say it is possible in most countries. For more info check our new video on the EP here: ua-cam.com/video/WoGvVUtRnoU/v-deo.htmlsi=iYmVr4LyVyCubyqZ
We put that there to see if someone is paying attention… You won..! Sadly no, no idea how Norway snuck in there. Must have been a mix up with the Danish flag… Good eye for spotting it!
@@AlexeySkripnik I could have sworn that I had changed that one... Thanks for spotting it. They do have strong ambitions to join the EU, so maybe in a few years this will actually be accurate :) I'll put it in the description as well.
You made a little mistake in the composition of the EC. Currently there are 8 vice presidents, 3 of those are executive VPs, 18 commisaires and 1 high representative of the EU
Still too complicated, so glad I voted out of this mess, as a brit i want to get to vote for who runs my country directly, not some nobody just appointed by other nobodies behind closed doors? This is why I never formed any connection to the project.
The Commission President should be either directly elected or, my preference, be elected by parliament from among MEPs by MEPs. Then maybe approved or not by the council. I know this is a question of the national governments in the council trying to hold on to their country's sovereignty but the fact is that this makes it less democratic than it needs to be for no real reason. One of the biggest weapons anti-EU politicians try to deploy against the EU is that it isn't democratic enough. This would be a way to make a huge forward step in that. Edit: And also, parliament should get the ability to initiate legislation. Though I have no problem with the commission also retaining the power to initiate legislation.
This Video Explains nothing I sugest everybody watches yout tuber "Finnish Bolshevik"what is the EU,The Fact that this OP thinks,EU is about Regulation Fearness,is absolut Joke.

No-one Elected Ursula .
Well, we did not as citizens directly... But our countries' leaders did vote...
Why was Norway included at 3:20? They aren't a member state. Have I missed something?

If you give anyone money, they're free to use it however they wish. If you have a problem with that, give them gift cards instead.
