0:43 A favorite; mine as well. I did my Mid EXAM for my German MAGISTER DEGREE in Ancient Hisory about the WAR REASONS for the Second Punic War. :) If you want to know more about Hannibal´s elepants read the chapter about them in Gavin de´Bear´s Hannibal biography. Other as the rest of the book that part was great. It explained that most of his animals were of the West-African sort, Minature Elephants as to be found nowdays in Nigeria. So there is not much with MILITES HANNIBALI AD ELEPHANTOS PUGNABANT as I had learned in Latin class once because those animals were much smaller as the Indian kind. :)
Right, there are versions of this game areound since over fifty years by now. A very eraly edition I had seen in a game catalogue when I was five in 1966 already- I really like this clear and helpfull presentation of the rule booklet since those manuals are otten written in a way which makes every non natural English reader to cry. SERIOUSLY !! this clip and the others are great help to understand the rules in deep.
Great review James, this game is on my wish list for sure. If you have an interest in the history of this conflict, please read the excellent "Storming The Heavens: Soldiers, Emperors, And Civilians In The Roman Empire" by Antonio Santosuosso (the previous book in his series, on Classical Greek warfare and its influence on the Roman Republic, is also well worth reading).
@YoksterMan Will do, I've been looking for good books on the subject, Cheers. There is an excellent Podcast called "the History of Rome" Great reader, great information. Episode 23 is broken into a few segments that are all about the Second Punic War, worth listening too.
My biggest issue is that its a two player game. Otherwise it looks great and good review (maybe ease up on the hand motions though =3). Would prefer to play this four player if it was doable
I'm in a tournament April 2018 I played Rome, killed Hannibal in round 6 and then the rotter plays the Peace Card on the last turn and all my 5 laurel reef cards could not nullify it because the EVENT on them has to be played out so I lost as I could not recapture territory .... screw you Hannibal !! LOL ,,great game though.

Thanks for the review, I really enjoyed it. I wanted this game before but now I really want it.
@kytodd No, not yet, I'm thinking of converting some warlord minis.
This version is a very interesting improvement over the original game, thanks for the review.

Great review mate.
I looked at this game and just had to pass it up because I just couldn't pull the trigger. After the review, I'm a little closer but not. quite. yet!
Thanks for the great video!

this reminds me so much of twilight struggle- a game I love. I've only heard good things about hannibal, so I'll have to check it out

these kind of games looks fun to play if u find any poeple with the patient to learn it
Good thing about it is you only need to find 1 person.

Excellent review of an excellent game. I don't think the latter version is really better than the valley games version.
