    I like this video, but I thought of a serious downside. If humanity used all of the Sun's energy, there wouldn't be any left to power photosynthesis. As a result, all life on land and in the photic zone of the oceans would die out. Infinite energy vs the worst extinction event in Earth's history. Not a good trade-off, in my opinion. 😓

      I think the kicker would probably for that would be for us to be understand and to be able to create the process which is happening in chlorophyll to be able to create something that can produce food on a scale that we can engineer to the T would be next level stuff to be able to grow our food from nothing and not have to rely so much as germinating or trying to produce something out of but we have only available

      I've also thought about solar panels using up Sun's energy quicker, but luckily, we have enough to still have it lasting for like several billions of years or so.

    A Dyson sphere around the sun is impossible because it would be dynamically unstable because each part of it would have to have different orbital velocities.
    A Dyson swarm, however, would be possible. Even a Dyson swarm would not be able to intercept ALL of sun's light.

    If some of the sun energy is lost and reflected because of earths atmosphere I think that a good step to that direction would be to put up some solar panels on the L1 lagrange point. Still, we had to think about how we would deal with the radiation being send back to earth without being fried.

      I mean, you could use some kind of energy absorbtion unit on every section on the Dyson Sphere that can transport the energy through space, or two energy converters that can change the sun's energy into electricity instantaneously, then through super durable massive wires that connect to the Dyson Sphere, send them to an absorber region of the Earth to bring the energy to all plants that can take it. Why are we trying to get the power back to Earth? If you're making a structure around the Sun, then you might as well just house everyone on it. It will have a much larger surface area than Earth with that diameter, which means way more room for our increasing population. With all that energy we wouldn't really need to worry about efficiency at first. You could have all the food and trees and stuff growing on the opposite side, and reflect sun around or even use full spectrum bulbs to provide the light needed for the plants to grow inside the giant structure. Put all the water in panels or pipes on the surface facing the sun to heat everything inside, provide steam power, and block some of the radiation. We could even make giant electromagnets around the structure to block some of the radiation, much like how Earth does. Removing all or most the humans from Earth will let it restore itself a bit and let some of the other animal populations grow, or just mine it to the core and bring everything to the megastructure with us, like an ark. We could try crashing Jupiter into the sun first to make it more dense, and we could feed it more planets periodically to prevent it from collapsing on itself and destroying everything, but that would also mean we would have to find a way to redirect the sun so we can travel to other systems to use them as fuel. So I guess the main concerns are steering the sun, and making sure we have enough water for everyone, the plants, and the animals. We have a ton of water in the oceans we aren't really using, so that could sustain us for a few hundred thousand years while our sun makes the journey between systems. It would be a hard decision to tear apart our solar system and get rid of all the planets at first, but if that's what it takes to ensure the survival of the human race then I'm sure we would do it if we had to. It would seem like less of a big deal once we've done it, and, I mean, there are how many other planets in the universe? So who really cares if we have to sacrifice a few uninhabited planets to survive and travel to another solar system?

    Would make more sense to install solar panels on the Moon. No atmosphere, more energy, space enough to cover the whole thing with solar panels.

    • @dagdbot83
      @dagdbot83 2 роки тому

      Meteorites would be a problem though, since the moon doesn't have an atmosphere there will be no "invisible shield". What if instead we built it around the Earth's orbit moving at the same speed as Earth and far enough to escape our gravity then for it to come back to earth there could be this "drones" that will collect the energy that the SP (solar panels) generated back to earth then repeat

    You have to Advance the Battery first that can store energy without aging and more capacity in mini scale without any problems. Then put the solar panels in space rather than in the earth as earth has only limited sunlight. If the batteries were charged in space then harvest them and export them to the earth.

    Here's why this video is impossibly unrealistic.. first off: "We" is collective. That's not where we are now. WE can agree on anything.. secondly: if we can agree, we'd build solar panels across every desert in the world BEFORE we try it in space. Third: solar panels require materials, at this point, material we're taking from Earth - we'd hollow out the planet just for a few space laden solar panels. We need to figure out how to get materials from space and build in space BEFORE we decided what we are going to build.

    People are worried about the effects of man on our planet ... putting an energy absorbing belt around the sun in the plane of the solar system would have effects on all the planets that are on or go through the plane.
    Why would we be so stupid?
    What would we use all the power for? ... and if we imported it to the Earth we would have to re-radiate it to keep our home planet habitable.
    Building or moving a planet closer to the sun would seem more sensible when the incident energy is too low to sustain (human) habitability.
    Preventing solar microwaves hitting and destroying the habitability of the Earth when the magnetosphere decays seems a more pressing problem to me! Perhaps the 'Musk' experiment in trying to habitate Mars will help with information for maintaining habitation of the Earth in the, hopefully distant, future.

    It is not possible to put solar panels around the sun. The sun is a massive ball of gas and is not a solid surface on which to install solar panels. Additionally, the temperatures and radiation levels near the sun would destroy any material used to make solar panels. However, scientists are looking into ways to harness the energy of the sun through other means, such as building solar power plants in space.
