Im an actor. I studied the Alexander Technique in my training program over 10 years ago. This was probably the most powerful aspect of my training. I didnt realize that until i ran into a stint of depression. Saved my life. Now i dont go a few hours without checking my points of contact, freeing my neck, allowing my spine to float in its natural curvature and honoring the power of the new moment with each breath.

Great lecture, August! You did a wonderful job of what seems to be a very difficult thing to do: explain what the AT is to the uninitiated. Some say it took FM 3 years, while most claim 10 by himself. It took me 20 with help. But I was only allowed to take lessons for about 5 times of that time. Imagine your enemies prohibiting you from taking lessons to remedy your problem, and setting back it's solution for over a decade. That would have sucked, huh?

Thank you August Berger for talking about Alexander Technique and saying that it saved your career. The points you highlighted are the most important, in my opinion, and you were really effective in how you interacted with the audience! I wish everyone who benefits from the Technique speaks about it so that Alexander Technique becomes as widespread as it deserves to be.

As a 5k runner, rower, and then a classroom teacher I developed painful posture/proprioceptive habits over the years. AT has probably added years of pain-free joint function to my life! Thanks for sharing.

I like . AT enthusiast here, potential Alexander Yoga teacher as AT changed a lot in my practice, and my vision. Actually it feels like the concepts Alexander became aware of are pretty much concepts of yoga philosophy, YET because he was a one-person discover, the whole thing is more consise and more specific, which allows it to be more instructable. And more useful, IMHO.

I've started a singing class online, and the vocal teacher has studied The Alexander Technique. For homework, she asked us to watch "The Art of Breathing" with Jessica Wolf. I realize, as someone who has been more fearful and anxious, how I hold my shoulders up and tensed a lot of the time. It is a muscle memory, and I am now so interested in this method. Yes, it is a lovely introductory video.

Interesting. I didn't realise until watching this that there are parallel's been between this method/it's stages and what I'd been consciously applying to my practice of Muay Thai to improve technique and reduce muscle soreness. Makes me want to explore more purposefully

Okay, um... he’s hurting so he’s just asking himself if he’ll need surgery and what good would it do if the pain came back? Here’s an idea: GO TO A DOCTOR. Someone who would actually know what the issue was. Someone that could tell you if you needed surgery and if that surgery would permanently fix the problem. “I needed to get to the root of the problem.” I don’t believe you because otherwise you’d have gone to the doctor to find out.

Nice that you have such faith in the medical profession. Are you a doctor? Medical student? How many doctors have I been to who couldn't tell me what the root of the problem was. Completely useless. Ultimately, it's postural and surgery wouldn't do a thing for that. And guess what, he resolved his problem without surgery by following this technique. Weren't you listening? My chiropractor has helped me more than any MD - no surgery and guess what, it's postural.
