    DIGNITET Curtain Wire Hanging System from IKEA
    In this video, I'll show you how to install the DIGNITET curtain wire hanging system from IKEA. It was really intended for hanging curtains but has a multitude of other uses and is simple to install as you’ll soon see.
    Be sure to check out my other videos on this product, including how to cut the braided wire that comes in this kit from IKEA. I overlooked including this step, but this companion video should be helpful.

    Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. Half the work with these IKEA things is deciphering the instructions, and your video did that job for me, clearly and succinctly. Very much appreciated!

    Your my hero! Thank you for saving me hours of torture with your easy tutorial! Too bad ikea couldn't give easier instructions but I guarantee you saved my project because I know that plastic piece would have been on the wrong side of my wire cut!!!

    THANK YOU!!! I bought that little Dignitet set ages ago and was flummoxed when it did not include the anchor bolts for the wall! I originally only started to watch your video to see what you used to anchor it, but kept watching because your directions are so very explicit. As a teacher, I appreciate good, clear directions and yours are great! Thank you so much!

    I've had this setup for a couple of years, thinking I would use it in my camper. But this weekend I needed to rearrange my in-home video studio for online teaching, and this was perfect for hanging the backdrop curtains I wanted, to shield the rest of my tiny house from everyone's view. (I don't mind standing next to the bed to teach, but I don't want the students to see that!).
    Anywhoooo ... I really appreciate the care you took with this video, because I no longer had whatever instructions Ikea provided, and I wasn't at all sure how much extra space to leave on the turnbuckle end. Your video answered all my issues. Thank you!!!

    Great video!!! Helped by having everything needed to complete the project. Cutting the wire was trickier than I imagined. Also, the plastic drywall inserts didn't work with my 80 year old apartment because I think there may be plaster underneath because those suckers wouldn't go any deeper than 1/2 inch. Got it done though!!! Thanks!!!

    Yes, thank-you for sharing your talent in putting this together!! I am imagining that if you do hang curtains from it, they have to be ones that have an 'open clip' arrangement, so that they can be attached to the wire, yes? In other words, I cannot use curtains with a continuous loop needing to be threaded onto the wire...

    • @diycollaborative
      @diycollaborative  3 роки тому

      You’re very welcome. You pretty much said it. Use curtains with open clips or you have to take the wire down to thread them on. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    really informative. I may need to watch it another 100 times because I don't learn too fast. I will be buying these instead of curtain rods or a new closet sliding doors for my kids room. I will be using wood clips or meyal clips to slide curtains back and forth.

      I typically use Bulldog Drywall Anchor with #6 Screw for most 1/2" drywall installations. Size can vary depending on the span of your wire and load hanging on the wire. I've found them at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's and on Amazon. Hope this helps!

      Yes, they have them at IKEA for sale in the same area. I think there was 25 or so in a bag. Very inexpensive and handy for hanging other items as well. Thanks for watching!

    • @diycollaborative

      Good question. Do you know if the walls in your structure have studs? Most homes have them on 16” centers with drywall on the top. If you knock or tap on the wall, if it sounds hollow then chances are there are studs inside. When you drive a nail in does it seem hollow inside? If so, then you likely have drywall. Now, that said, your walls could be covered in wood slats, with drywall on top or not. Sorry for the complicated answer.

      @@diycollaborative The reason I ask is that I'm doing a very short run of these between a window and a set of built-in bookcases for my cross stitch threads. I have a stud finder and it seems to indicate there are studs on either side, but they aren't always accurate. I'll take your suggestions and see what happens! Thank you very much and also, thanks for such a quick reply!!

    after wrestling wth the cutting the cable.... and cutting it... the strands are beginning to unwind, and don't seem to want to sit into the very small hole in the bracket. not sure how to remedy the situation. I guess I'll trim the excess at an angle

    Thank you for your helpful tutorial! I'm in the planning stages for a very low-budget craft room/studio myself, so it was nice to see someone using it for that kind of area. I'm considering mounting these from the ceiling and using the support piece as a corner to create a 2-sided curtained "closet" in the corner of my sunny but closet-less room. After seeing how easily you installed them, I now just have to do the math and weigh the appropriate amount of canvas drop cloth to see if it will max out the weight limit. I don't know if if would be in your realm of knowledge, but do you or your wife have any suggestions on other opaque (but lighter weight) fabric I might try if the canvas is too heavy? Thanks again to you both for taking the time to share this video!

    I found your video very helpful, but I have a window that's more than 197 inches across so how would I combine the wires to stretch the length of the window. I recently purchased two packs of the dignitet if that helps.

    • @diycollaborative
      @diycollaborative  9 років тому +1

      Keanu Pagan Good Day, I'm not sure what tools you have available but you might try splicing the cables together but this would require some type of fastener at the splice or some method of locking the splice together. There may even be some type of sleeve available much like the ones on each end of the mounts provided in the kit that would allow two cables to be joined together but I've not been able to locate one yet. In any case, you'll probably still have to deal with the area where the splice is not being as small or smooth as the rest of the wire which may create a problem for whatever you're placing on the cable while attempting to slide it over this area. You can find tips on the internet on how to splice rope, wire, etc. The other issue to consider is the total span of the wire and how much weight it can support at the mounting points. You may want to think about just installing both complete sets and have them meet in the middle with a split in the covering or fabric hanging on the wire. Hope this helps and thanks for asking. Let us know how you solve this one. I'd be interested to know more...

    Thanks so much for your very well done instructions... Like some of the other comments, I looked at those directions and scratched my head and wanted to pull my hair out. They should hire you! Do you know what weight this will hold? I was going to hang curtains with grommets.

    • @diycollaborative
      @diycollaborative  7 років тому +1

      +Sandra Holtz Thank you Sandra. It depends on the mounting surface as to how heavy the items can be. The wire will hold a good amount of weight and you can add additional center mounts. Thanks for watching and for your comments.
