- The complete Dave collection of Emmanuel Kamarados, better known as Kamarr. Then-Late Night Researcher Laurie Lennard saw his act at the Café Versailles revue "C'est Si Bon" and invited him to perform on the show's third International Night special. After she became one of the Talent Coordinators, newly-hired Researcher Madeleine Smithberg inherited the job in the Fall of 1986 and, in her words, "took him to the next level."

This was a fun find. I had actually worked with Kathy, Kamarr's daughter, in 1990 in Glacier National Park in the summer. She was fun and nice. She had mentioned being on the Letterman show though I had rarely seen it. She had said that Letterman had even asked her out, and she had been very surprised about it, and declined. She had also mentioned that she and her father had done a small background piece in the movie 'Scenes from a Mall', which had Woody Allen and Bette Midler. You only saw Kathy and her father as Allen and Midler were coming down an escalator. It was nice to find this collection of all of Kamarr's performances on the show. And it was nice to see Kathy again, too.

That bottle band near the end was absolutely amazing, never saw anything like it, very David Letterman. Love those surprise bonuses you sometimes include.
The finale of this (brilliantly compiled) montage is from New Year's Eve 1998. And the four lovely ladies in semi-tuxedos who assisted Kamarr with the Houdini Sack Escape were actually background singers & dancers who had done a Broadway-style musical number with Nathan Lane earlier in the show. 🙂
Sadly, the clip of their performance was evidently removed by The Management. 😞
It wasn’t removed, just not included here, since the focus was on Kamarr.
@@dongiller I meant that someone else had posted that musical number a year or so back. So, I immediately favoritized it! Unfortunately, UA-cam removed it for some reason.

how funny I actually work at the shop that made him that escaping bag trick and it turns out the prop master switched the fake bar for that trick for a real one he had made to fool people backstage LOL
This is quintessential Letterman. Messing with KAMARR (all caps per his website), the sarcastic insults, the ad-libbing. I'd watch hours of this vs some celebrity banter.
Always loved when Dave would crack up Headroom.

There were a lot of thrill cams and prancing fluids. Merely the essential ones where the story develops would be nice.
Kathy is pretty cute lol am I wrong? I wonder if he ever got his birds back that were stolen?
I listened to one of the eps of the Carson Podcast featuring Morty where he recalled a Kamarr segment where he screwed up one of those box tricks where he plunges swords into a box with his assistant inside, and ended up accidentally slicing Kathy in the process. He mentioned they were able to go to commercial as if nothing bad had happened. Did that actually ever go to air?

@@dongiller he did that trick in one of these but he just pulled the swords out I think and she popped out but he didn't set it up so maybe what we saw was a redo.
16:00 if that is considered the "discount" magician I would love to see what david thinks of a serouse one lol that guy must be really good! caus this discount guy from craigs list is really good I cant figure out how he makes cakes in those pans lol the big ones are easy to guess but the small slight of hand stuff he is amazing with
the cake and banner was prob in the lid and when putting the tops down the inside bottom extinguished the flame - possible retardent underneath.
