“Getting flour everywhere would be the Yeast of your concerns” XD
At yeast he cleaned it up. XD
At least he ROSE above his experience.
That pun was amazing to say the yeast
You guys knead to stop these bread puns
Daniel Davis but they bring in a lot of dough
The dough is supposed to be sticky. You have made the same mistake many of us do. OVER FLOURING WHEN KNEEDING. You should not be adding so much flour when kneeding. It will make you dough heavy and dense. It can also cause your dough not to rise properly. Try adding little dusting of flour kneed that in and add more if needed. As dough is kneeded it gets less sticky. So so much flour is not kneeded haha
Agreed. When I saw the amount of flour I was amazed lol..
Hey Berry,
Could you do some Polish "Pierogi po Ruskie"
Its totally my most loved food in Poland.
Would love to see you do them
If he does them the way he did the bao buns, please don't. Maybe it'd be worth trying the recipe out first cause it can get painful to watch.
Hope i've got you drooling wanting to try these! They are really worth the effort and a lot of fun to make and fill to your liking - pork belly, veggie etc play around with it. If you'd like to try it head here for the recipe with some of my notes barrylewis.net/recipe/steamed-bao-buns/
and if you want to see more taste the World recipes, check out this playlist ua-cam.com/video/wmTdbGAmUNI/v-deo.html - cheers :)
Barry Lewis can’t wait to try! Especially as my other half’s doing us a lovely new kitchen, so your recipes will be the first ones in it!
@@samanthaburnpartofthefam1855 awesome
@MIMP GUDRAIS def worth the effort
Döner kebaaaaaaaab
Romanian Sweet Cheese Pies with Raisins - Branzoaice something sweet and different It tastes like bread n butter pudding almost
I really love this series you have started😁. You should try a Norwegian dish.😊
Addie Johson I love this idea. I did a road trip through Norway some time ago. What can I say: I fell in love with the food there 😍 l hope he sees your comment :)
I've got two words for you MAKE CRUMPETS!!!
Those onions would have been great with some brown sugar and balsamic vinegar too
good call! love balsamic
I've hated onions since being a child. So basically my whole life. I wish I liked them 😩
Could you please make kimchi jiggae or something similar such as bulgogi or jajangmyeon home made style from Korea I always wanted to make these but didn't know where to start or what to do XD thankyou so much.
3:06 Kneadless to say that you're doing a good job
Whey!
It’s the yeast he could have done.
Barry please make a cajun dish like gumbo, etouffee, or jambalaya!!
I AM LIVING FOR WHOLESOME FOOD CONTENT AND LITTLE MIX REFERENCES
Great video Barry!!
one like just for this really bad koreander dad joke...
loved it! :D
Yep,that's when I like the video lol
I think you added too much flour when kneading the buns. It usually grows bigger when you steam it but that looks great though.
There was SO MUCH flour!
Barry you don't have to use jam to caramelize onions. Just use a little sugar and salt sweat the onions. This way doesn't add flavors you don't want together.
You really don’t need anything but onions, cooked very low and slow. The sweetness & caramelization of the onion is great all by itself. User’s choice, of course, if you prefer adding something. Just an FYI.
@@jvallas like you said, you don't have to add sugar to onions. But either you don't add sugar and let them naturally caramelise on a low heat which takes 20 minutes, or you cheat and do add a little bit of sugar and get them done in 5 minutes. So it meanly depends on how much time you have/want to put in the dish.
He said this in the video :)
Babs he knows this, but I’m sure the jam flavor went amazing with the meat. He didn’t truly caramelize them anyways, just cooked them down with jam.
Oh well, life moves on, and hopefully so do we.
Thanks for reminding me that i need to get a steamer thingy..... ALSO barry, i dare you to do any polish cousine, anything like bigos, pączki, gołąbki etc.
YES!!! I'd love to see him do authentic pierogies or Kifle cookies!
Barry, I have my mother's Kifle recipe I can send over, if you'd like!
I would love to see you try to make Mofongo with chicharrón
Yes!! Puerto Rican food!!!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssss!
These buns are my favourite food of all time! I love getting them during a cold rainy day while they're steamy 😍❤
Bao means bun in Chinese... So according to you, you made steamed bun buns. :d
I like that... I'm looking forward to making steamed bun buns!!!
Us British do that a lot. Naan bread = bread bread, chai tea = tea tea ect. Even rivers in our own country, the river avon = the river river.
Trying to think of what Barry could do for Australia? Fairy Bread? 😜😂 meat pie maybe?
please try kanelbullar from sweden!! love your vids
@@allknowingpineapple4112 Two totally different things. Köttbullar are Swedish meat balls and Kanelbullar are Swedish cinnamon buns.
Or kroppkakor.. 😍
Did you mean fiskbullar?
@@Bhalforii Fiskbullar (fish cakes) has nothing to do with kanelbullar (cinnamon buns/rolls), köttbullar (meat balls) or kroppkakor ("body cakes" - pork and onion filled balls of a special dough made from potatoes and then boiled..).
Although I grant you that fiskbullar are quite tasty! 😍
@@fikawithangel4803 Aha thx maybe he meant lusebullar then
'Bao' means bun in Chinese, so you've just made bun buns 😂
He needs to go to the ATM machine.
I love RAS Syndrome!
No rabbits were harmed in the making of bun buns 😁
"I wouldn't CARROT all"
You summon all your daddity for these videos.
Thanks Barry! Please do Hainanese chicken rice from Singapore 🙏
You should do french Patisserie, please make Mille feuille
Hey Barry love the video! Try to make danish "smørrebrød" it is an open faced sandwich with a lot of different toppings! Look it up, it is delicious!
Well... they are amazing, and the Danish are among the best in the world when it comes to food, but they are still just sandwiches. I think rødgrød med fløde would be nice. Much easier to make than pronounce. :-) And also delicious.
I think you should try to do soup dumplings in the very near future
Try a Trinidadian dish
Like doubles
Try making Koeksisters from South Africa. They are basically plaited strips of doughnut mixed with honey or golden syrup and deep fried, so good!
Ah! This is what I was going to suggest as well! :-)
Try and make jerk chicken and plantain from scratch
Boondoggle 316 😂 hilarious
If you're short on time or just want a fool-proof way, using a pressure cooker is such a great way to make pulled meat. Or you can just put it in a slow cooker overnight and it's ready in the morning. Amazing video as always, Barry. My family loves watching your vids!!!
Some foods from finland that might interest you:
- pinaattiletut (a kind of pancakes/crepes with spinach, can be eaten with whatever you want, sweet or savoury)
- korvapuusti (cinnamon buns but different, they are cut in triangles and squashed to show two beautiful spirals. The name litterally means a slap to the ear, they actually look a little like ears)
- bostonkakku (cinnamonbuns baked together into a cake)
- saaristolaisleipä (a type of slightly sweet rye bread, goes best with fish)
- hernekeitto and pancakes (green pea soup and pancakes are normally eaten on thursdays, usually there is meat in the soup and the pancakes are the dessert)
Sir, could you do some Norwegian cuisine? Maybe Klub or Lefse?
Plum and hoisin are two different things man 😂😂 looks amazeballs though and I will try it with both 😏
Australia- Lamingtons (sponge cakes covered in chocolate icing & coconut) or Pavlova or ANZAC biscuits
I love your videos never give up
Your videos are always a joy to watch, thank you for the wonderful ongoing entertainment 😊
I would love to see you cooking a German dish like Käsespätzle. Käse = cheese (like Emmentaler) and Spätzle = German pasta made of eggs
AKA German Mac and cheese. Hahahahaha
You made another great recipe, Barry. Now you can take a bao. Cheers!
It would be awesome if you would make finnish karjalanpiirakkas (karelian pies)if you make them be sure to put some egg butter on them.Btw love your vids, keep it up 👍👍👍
Oh my word! Just saw these on sale in the shops yesterday but couldn't afford them. Now I can make them! Thank you Barry!
Loved this! Really adventurous, but actually looks manageable. Would be really cool to try one day. :-)
Dolmades - Greek Cuisine - Basically like stuffed vine leaves. Id love to see some greek food on this playlist :)
i think he tested out a gadget for this
Tried this recipe and it's a absolutely good. I will share a photo of my very own Bao in your other social media! Thank you Barry ❤️
❌❌❌Polish pierogi for the playlist ❌❌❌ my favourite food in the whole world!!! ❤
My favourite food Bao Buns! Thankyou Barry 😃
you're welcome (said in Dwayne Johnson voice)
Hi Barry just a thought you could make a popular polish soup called Żurek which comes inside of a bread loaf
Im a chef at wagamama and the minute I saw the thumbnail I knew you were using our buns as inspiration. The onions in the wagamama buns are red pickled which is why they are pink!
Ive never seen someone pretend to orgasm over eating dry beef. Dude, turn the temperature down on your oven and let it cook slower at a lower temp, Im no rocket scientist, but you cant pretend that beef is tender, anyone thats cooked for more than a week can just look at that tell its dryer than British humor.
Could you do Filipino food Barry?
Anything will do
FYI- duck sauce is completely different from hoisin sauce
Barry, if I may, how about Pad Kra Pao Gai? Thai basil chicken. I'd love to see your take on that.
Can you please make a calcannon from ireland
I learned to love cooked cabbage by eating my mom's colcannon. Colcannon and roast beef (with carrots and onions) is one of my favorite meals!
Yeast is a living thing. Too hot, you killed it. Add salt, you killed it.
Hi Barry can u make an Indian classic for next weeks taste the world episode like a extremely spicy curry or a very nice chicken corms with narmb bread
Plus love ur vids they r amazing and I tried most of ur recipes
Hi Barry,
Wondering what type of food processor you use. It seems to be quite quiet, and I've been looking for one which will do that job.
Thank you,
Casey
Bao long did it take to clean your lens after you smacked that bao bun on it at the end Barry lol
You should try making Jersey Wonders! They're basically like dougnuts but in a knot kind of shape. Super delicious!
Never heard of it but now i want it. *hungry*
Hey Barry,
I'd love to see you making a German "Krustenbraten" it's delicious.
Greetings from Germany.
Onion + heat + time = caramelized onion
I can not be the only one bothered by Barry leaving hot pan handles sticking straight out from the stove. 😱😱 Turn your pan handles IN, Barry! For safety!
You're not! I just left a comment about exactly that. I hope he doesn't do that when his girls are in the kitchen.
Its like one of the first things you learn in home economics. Its the first thing any cook should be taught.
@@Twinkedink right?
@@coveredinpaint7318 I know. It worries me too.
Yep, that's what I said! It was the first thing my mum taught me, and I taught my kids.
I'm so excited that you made a video for bao zi!!! I love bao zi and it's one of my favorite foods. But I do kinda wish you did more of a traditional bun, but this still seems super good😋
Bao is all over the place at the moment. Bao means bun though so you are saying bun bun :D Drop the bun.
I'd only tried them in a restaurant local to me but loved them. Didn't realise it took so long dough wise, but well worth it
@@mrbarrylewis , sorry Barry, I mean that they seem to keep popping up on youtube for some reason :D Love bao in Wagamama but love their chilli squid starter more and have that every time. Definitely highly recommended!
Who puts onions in the fridge? 😂
Please try to make Portuguese tarts.
Oh my!!! That looks amazing!!😙 now I'm hungry, went to the fridge and there's nothing there that's like that!!😞
Barry make good from Africa
As for Brazilian cuisine, you should try Feijoada, which is a very popular and recognizable Brazilian dish. It's also full of history since it was created by slaves during colonization (sad, I know).
We also have something called Barreado, which is more a southern specialty from the seaside area of Paraná (the state I live in). It looks a bit like pulled pork. It's a shredded meat stew that we eat with Manioc Flour.
From Bahia state, you may try to to Acarajé, which is more like street food. It looks like a big falafel filled with fried shrimps, and vinaigrette.
Going to street food, you may try pastel, with is the Brazilian variation of a Chinese spring roll (and it's a square, not a roll) and coxinha, a deep fried "raindrop" shaped dough filled with shredded chicken. Those two are very popular on street markets.
Yumm!! Those look sooo good! You should try making Æbleskiver : )
Make Shawarma from UAE
can we see a giant boa and a mini boa....i miss the tiny foods....
Some of my personal favourites for you to try:
Mexican mole sauce (both the red and cocoa versions) with chicken
Toulouse cassoulet
Blinde vinken (Belgian thing where you beat beef to death and then wrap half a pig with it and then submerge the whole thing in beer)
Chicken Alfredo (basically chicken drowned in melted gran padano with tagliatelli - right up your street, methinks!)
San Francisco-style chowder in a sourdough bowl
Chilli cheese pastrami fries
*POUTINE!*
Argentinian-style roast beef (it's marinated and basted and is really slow cooked)
Spanish Salmorejo soup
Fideua (kinda like Catalan paella, but with really small spaghetti bits instead of rice, and a different mix of meats and fish)
Bitterballen (amazing Dutch stuffed croquette things with a runny filling)
Pirozhka (small Russian pies that are amazing)
Coxinhas de Galinha (large Brazilian pear-shaped ball things stuffed with chicken and lemony cream cheese)
Beef Carbonnade (amazing benelouxian casserole where you slowly cook a whole beef joint in a pot with about 2L of dark beer (ideally Leffe Bruin), plums, apples, garlic, and shallots - one of my favourite things in the world to put in my face)
Tsukemen ramen (served deconstructed, really good)
Khao soi / soy (Thai / Burmese curry made from coconut milk, lemongrass and chilli oil, served with chicken or lamb and bamboo shoots)
Pho!
Kimchi!
Korean-style rice cakes (they're cylindrical, and usually served in a hot sauce)
…and there's so much more I can suggest if you're interested ^^
I'd love to see you try a Bahn Mi (Vietnamese sandwich) including making the bread. Or perhaps Japanese Tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) Curry, Gyudon (beef bowl) or Okonomiyaki (Japanese cabbage pancake). Korean yangyeom tongdak (sweet and spicy fried chicken) or ddeokbeokgi (rice cakes in spicy sauce) would be interesting too. Kebab in a flatbread like a Gyro or Souvlaki would be interesting too! :) just a few ideas for you.
You should try making pupusas revueltas with salsa and curtido. From my beautiful background El Salvador 😁 pretty easy to make and they taste AMAZINGGG. When my grandma makes them, I will drop everything to grab me about 10 of these bad boyz.
If you do something from Sweden, do tunnbrödsrulle, smörgåstårta or princess cake! 😋
Could you make something typical Dutch? Like stampot Andijvie or Boerenkool? Or maybe the all known stroopwafel? I loved you trying the pepernoten!
I ate a peanut butter & jelly sandwich with a can of chicken noodle soup for dinner and I hate the fact I punish myself watching these video!! Looks amazingly beautiful and I just might feel froggy and motivated to make this tomorrow night!
Can you do this one from Finland? I've only bought it before so I would love to see someone make them, ultimately challenging me to make them better than that person..! Goggle for pictures!
Karelian pasties (Karjalanpiirakat)
Ingredients:
1 decilitre water
½ - 1 tsp salt
2½ decilitre rye flour
Rice filling:
2,5 decilitre water
1 litre milk
2,5 decilitre rice
1 tsp salt
Rinse the rice and place it in boiling water. Simmer until most of the water is absorbed.Add the milk, lower the heat to a minimum, and partially cover the pot. Simmer until the milk has been absorbed and the rice has turned into a thick porridge. Season with salt and leave to cool.
Add the flour and salt to the water and mix into a solid, compact dough.
Form the dough into a strip and divide into 12 pieces.
Roll the pieces into flat thin ovals.
Spread some filling on each oval. Then fold the sides towards the center, pinching and making neat pleats along the edge.
Bake at 300 ºC for about 10 minutes.
Brush them well with melted butter or a butter and water mixture.
Place the pasties, separated with baking paper, in a bowl and cover with a towel to soften the crusts.
Serve warm with butter or egg butter which is made by mixing equal parts of butter, (cottage cheese) and chopped hard-boiled egg.
Google "karelian pie recipe" if you don't trust me!
Some foods I think other people need to fall on love with that I think would be great for this series of videos:
-Iranian dolma (stuffed grape leaves) or fesenjan (chicken/walnut/pomegranate stew)
-Russian golubtsi (stuffed cabbage rolls)
-mexican conchas or Japanese melonpan (They're very very similar)
-japanese ramen (the proper stuff that the broth takes ages to make)
Julienned is a specific type of cut. Think match sticks, about 2 inches. Not short floppy shoelaces lol. And once done you can make Burnoise (3mm3mm3mm cubes). By this you should get about 18 cubes with a proper julienned piece.
How's about a nice spicy gumbo, some grits and chitlins, could you shows us please how to make a
Pork pie....that hot water pastry is a utter pain in the glutamus maximus!!!. Salt fish and acki, and finally some soused Herron??. Hope you pick one of those badboys bazza, I've chowed down on them all on my travels and gotta admit , for rustic cheaper food, they ain't half tasty!!
You absolutely have to try making Finnish food. If you wanna make something easy you should try Karelian stew. Karelian pies are tricky but I'd love to see you try. Or you could do what SORTEDfood did and try cooking based on a recipe that's entirely in Finnish.
I keep telling my mom about your channel and she mentioned a British cooking show called Posh Nosh (I believe that’s the name of it) that she said was so funny and ridiculous
I know I’m a bit late but Paul Hollywood has this book called ‘The Weekend Baker’ and it’s got recipes from America, Italy, London, Spain, Germany and more so I’d really recommend it for this series.
Barry A.) Show us how to make Chinese pork buns and B.) What happened to "My Virgin Kitchen"? Should I ask...
Barry, u definitely are not a chef. 😩 my grandson is an Executive Chef in San Francisco and when I show him ur videos he can’t believe what u make. 😂😂 anyway I think u r absolutely a howl ( funny ). U make me really happy even on a bad day😁. I don’t think that’s how the Chinese make the shape of the bun. I doubt they use a chop stick😂.
They look amazing Barry! I personally prefer filled and closed bao's. Prepare a pork BBQ mix for 95%, and cook it the last 5% by steaming it inside the dough. They look like the head of the character in the Pixar movie called Bao.
(I learned to make mine years ago from another UA-cam channel called Maangchi, she makes a lot of great Korean dishes)
1. "Bao" means "bread/bun", so it's redundant to call these "bao buns".
2. Adding baking powder not only gives the dough some extra lift, but adjusts its pH and whitens it.
Could you make an Aragones paella? With clam, lobster, shrimp, prawn, squid, octopus, little bit of sausage and of course, saffron rice?
I used to work in Wagamama and I loved the Steamed buns, tip for you Barry the mayonnaise they use is called Kewpie mayonnaise and you can buy it in the oriental section in tesco for £3.99 for 500ml :D hope that helps!
Bet you could prove it while watching Corrie and err EastEnders so it don't feel like it'll take a long thyme and you don't end up with a basil batch (basil Fawlty, though basil might be a good addition to the buns)
I was trying to figure out why you bleeped out "Alexa" for about five minutes before I realized it was probably because it would trigger Alexa for anyone watching. Nicely done, I would not have thought about it.
Please try to make a German dish, like Linsen mit Spätzle und Saitenwürstchen= Lentils, German
Pasta made with eggs and sausages. Or Maultaschen = pasta squares filled with meat and spinach.
Barry, when you do an Italian thing, please don’t make a stereotypical dish, like those abused around the world. Make something we eat, but visitors are surprised by. Maybe a sformato, which can be many things, but for you, I’d think asparagus. England grows great asparagus, and the sformato is one of the most ethereal expressions of it.
What about German specialities? 🇩🇪❤️ I live in Franconia and in my opinion we're the Kings and Queens when it comes to German traditional food.
I’d love to see you give dango a try :) (and show me how to make a proper mitarashi sauce, because I can add 50 tons of corn starch to it and still don’t get the lovely, jelly/syrupy texture that they had in Japan
Norway has probably the most unappetizing unappealing looking food that everyone (except me) loves, there are lots of names and variations on them, but theyre balls of shredded potato(dont think hash browns, its grey mush) and you have more potatoes and salty meat and sausages with it..
Potetball or komle.. im not even sure you could get it looking nice for a photo even..
its just, nah man, and it feels like every norwegian i know loves it, and looks at me aghast if i say i dont like it.. and they want to know how my family makes it because theirs is better blah blah, no its all awfull! I'll eat the other food with it (just not kålrabistappe! Extra bacon and butter pls), but never that.
The buns look yummy. Seeing your new pug oven gloves I am thinking if you were to get another pug why not
call it Spark.... Pug! 😂😂🐾🐾🐾
You should try making Spanish horchata, it's a drink made from tigernuts (chufas), or can even be made with rice (that's how I make it at home). It's amazing and something most people don't think of when they think of Spanish food (or well drink in this case)
Please try to make Nsima with rape leaf salad (maybe with Chambo (fish) goat or something too in a traditional African way). Im vegetarian so my time in Africa was difficult, haha! But its a very interesting dish to make and super unusual.
