Kim I didn’t know you were in Maryland! I love your videos so much and appreciate them more than you can know. I’m also in the DMV area and learning about gardening has been part of my healing journey after I’ve developed a debilitating neuromuscular disease. For my one year anniversary I ordered some David Austin’s, and I am watching your videos to help me prepare for them. Thank you so much for your wonderful sharing of information. Warmly, Mary Beth

So, you do technically have a loamy soil, BUT, since you're RIGHT on the water like that it causes greater impaction, so for all intents and purposes it acts like a clay soil. We had very similar issues living off the lake in Minnesota back in the day. You want some challenging growing conditions! The last winter I lived (survived) through in MN (2010-2011) killed ALL of my plants, not just my roses. EVERYTHING. I had lost my job, house, best friend, and plants all in that same year. Anyways, I just wanted to assure you you're not crazy!
Also, you totally inspired me to splurge on my very very first DA rose yesterday. A Desdemona. She's my Valentine's gift this year. I also got a bouget of Lady X roses that I'm trying to root. I live out in Arizona now, and the conditions here are just divine for roses. I've got two bushes in their third year this Spring (Perfume Delight and a Queen Elisabeth standard, as well as a third yellow rose which I have no idea what kind, it's a standard tea, very golden yellow. I love it. ) I also just got a Chrysler Imperial, Caribia, Arizona, and Rio Samba in the ground, along with interspersed Calla lilies, and I just can't wait to see them all pop into life soon. I can't wait for your first flush either. I bet it's going to be fantastic! Here's some good luck to both of us! 🤗🥰🎉✨💖

Thank you for showing us how to stay positive and pro-active when faced with difficult growing conditions. I love your kind and positive personality. Your unboxing and reviews of vendors and their roses is really valuable to me, and your content makes you a much needed channel on youtube for rosarians. Your focus on vendors is not available on any of the other youtube channels. Are your raised beds tall enough to make a difference in keeping roses out of the water? It is a lot of work to install raised beds, and It just doesn't look like yours are tall enough. Looks like you need the more common raised bed height of 10-12 inches. Also, I find using topsoil alone to fill a raised bed is cheaper, but not a great soil medium for growing plants unless it is amended. I know you have done so much to deal with your high water table, and I can sympathize. I have one small area, about 10' by 18' where water is a problem, and have brought in 5 truckloads of topsoil and too many bags of soil amendments to count. it hardly made a difference! I now plan to install raised beds in that area, but will make them about 2 feet high just so I can plant there without getting down on my knees.

Hi Kim, Did you ever use the following product for the David Austin roses? Is it similar to Biotone?
    DAVID AUSTIN MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI

Hi Kim, Did you ever use the Bonnie Harvest Select organic raised bed soil or the Harvest Organics raised bed soil in your raised beds?

Hi Kim, I will be creating a 2 raised beds in my backyard for bareroot roses. Just wanted to know what the depth should be as the ground where I will be creating them is hard to dig. So shall I fill them with 8 inches of soil or less? Also wanted to know the soil mixture you used is only plain topsoil or you have mixed compost and peat moss with soil? Also wanted to know the name of the bags of soil you are using here. Did you buy them online or from your local garden Centre?

Hi Kim, Do you place any fabric liner at the bottom of your raised beds before filling them up with soil?

Hi Kim, I have just installed a 8’ by 4’ raised bed which is 14” deep for the bareroot roses. My local garden Centre suggested ‘Coast of Maine planting soil for roses & flowers’ for the raised bed. But to fill up the bed with this soil would cost me about $400. I just wanted to ask you if I can recommend any other soil which I can use to fill up the bed that will cost much less. That would be very helpful.

@@TheRoseGeek Thank you Kim for being so helpful. Also wanted to let you know that my yard soil test result came from UCONN lab and I have sandy loam soil. But it lacks in following elements.
      LIMESTONE:
Apply ground limestone as recommended to raise the soil pH. For new plantings, work the entire amount into the top 6 to 8 inches of soil before planting. For established beds, gently scratch in limestone into soil around plants. If more than 10 lbs of limestone per 100 sq. ft. is recommended, put one-half down now and the other half in a month or more.
      FERTILIZER:
Soil test values for both PHOSPHORUS and POTASSIUM are BELOW OPTIMUM.
In May, June and July apply per 100 sq ft, 2 lbs (4 cups) of 5-10-10 or the equivalent from other sources.
      OR
Rose bushes can be individually fertilized by applying about 2 tablespoons of 5-10-10 per plant in each of the three months listed.
See Section III on the SUGGESTED FERTILIZER PRACTICES for FLOWERS fact sheet for instructions on when and how often to apply the fertilizer recommended above.

Hi Kim, another great video! Very helpful tips!
We just dismantled our son’s wood bed and there are about 12 wooden planks 3 feet long and 4 inches wide. Can I use these wooden pieces to create similar raised beds like the ones in this video? The spray paint you used to paint them ,is it a special kind of paint? Or I can use the leftover outdoor brick paint I have from the summer? Please let me know. Thank you so much!❤️

@@TheRoseGeek Hi Kim, We found some ready made borders for the raised beds at Home Depot which are not wooden. We will install them in March. I also wanted to ask you if you have any information about when the One Love Rose farm start taking orders for Spring shipment. I have been checking their website , but could not find any. I have Shropshire Lad, Jubilee Celebration and few other roses which I wanted to order from them. Please let me know if you have any update.

Love watching your rose videos and hearing your sweet & calming voice:) I’ve just bought 4 raised beds and they are 11” tall. Do I do it correctly if I don’t dig the ground, just put cardboard over the grass and add soil in to plant my roses like how you did in your video? Is 11” tall enough and I assume the roots will eventually grow through the cardboard to the soil below over time? New to raised beds for roses but would love to get amazing results like yours. Thanks!

@@TheRoseGeek thanks so much Kimberley! Now I’m a lot more comfortable starting raised beds for roses as I don’t want to dig. Also your reference and experience of planting them 18-24” apart is so helpful. I was always worried about planting them too close together esp. those bigger girls.

Hi, How tall are your raised beds? I want to make sure I have adequate amount of space for the roses roots.
