i purchased a 3040 last week and have the 4th axis.
through watching your videos i now have the know how to do as described here.
i will try this out next week as good a few things planned for this machine just to busy to play with it right now.
Indeed a VERY informative video. Always wondered what it would take to add a rotary to my router. Thanks Charlie!
thank you for a well edited video. i learned a lot in short order, not what i was looking for but useful none the less. too many youtube vids are a total waste of time watching the grass grow slowly
+spencer chase
Awesome. Glad you found it useful. And yeah, I understand about the grass, lol.
Thank you.
I have had this machine for a few years and never knew how to set it up.
Lill' Wolff Very welcome. I hope that means you have it up and running now. Fun little machine.
Well done - that looked involved from a "check it first" POV, but you did it really well.
Thank you
The controller you're using is omg i want this! AH MACH3! nice going to go look into that right now.
I learned some new Mach features watching this. Thanks!

Great job bro . Badass machine
you made that look easy, i have the 6040z with the 4th axis but have never got to use it .thank you i learned so much. going to scorchworks.com to grab that software now. thumbs up and subscribed .
Ewing Fabrications Awesome, glad the vid helped you out.
Hard work = a nice video. You are a virtuoso of metal humor and cnc satire.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Good job dude looks nice!
cool presentation keep the good mood !!!wish you the best.
+azedine acem Thanks, and the best to you as well!
Yes I have I ran a piece with two different size holes and a pyramid pattern in the center and it worked perfectly. the knob I am trying to turn shows all the toolpaths run ok and the 3D wrapped drawing shows fine.
The two pins for alignment isn't something I've seen before. It could save me hours!
It's not the most accurate way of doing things, but certainly good enough for most jobs I do on this machine.
Just to reiterate: Your two vids on tool setting have changed my efficiency to a new level with my 6040 CNCEST; absolutely brilliant.
Tip: Set your slow jog to 5 or 10% and leave it; arrow keys in Mach3 will always move at slow jog, unless you also hold down shift, then fast jog.
Why have you not posted videos in two years? Waiting for more great content!
Awesome! Glad the tool setting videos helped you out. New content is coming, so you won't have to wait much longer. :)
great video, now I want a 4th axis :-)
Awesome! Go for it!
رائع جدا. very nice I love your work
Thank you.
joli bravo continuez !!
That is so badass is unreal . I love that machine . O need to get me one

Great video! Wow!!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Love the vid!!!!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
Hey Charlie great video. Just a cuestión, how do you make this funtion (/) for divide at half the total steps on axis ?
영상 잘보고 갑니다!🤩
Impressive...
Thank you.
very funny, thank you!
+E Falegname
All in good fun, you're welcome.
Muy bueno todo el preparativo del router y bien el grabado pero hay una herramienta para cada trabajo y esto se imprime con láser.
Ok thanks
Welcome
It would be pretty cool if you machine a technigrip bar and mount it in your rotary 4th axis, with an idle support at the other end of the technigrip. Then I think it would be a much more versatile 4 axis setup.
+JaycubL
That does sound like an interesting project to tackle.
Hi, Thnak you !. I will be add 4axis in my CNC , but first I try to learn how to connect my driver/motors etc...and how to fixed all in Mach .
Thanks bro..
very good
Thanks
Amazing toy like machine fully operational.
Does the job, lol.
Charlie Sarsfield Oh! Really?
Absolutely. Bought the CNC to engrave on steel tools/parts I make on my manual Mill and Lathe.
Charlie Sarsfield is it so rigid to engrave on steel as well? For how much did you get this and is this available in India?
Rigid enough for about .003in (.076mm) deep engraving in steel, but probably not much more. That is as far as I'm willing to push it and do not need more than that anyways. I bought this machine from eBay for around $500 USD about 3 years ago.
Super! Thanks!
good inffo!!
I'll soon be getting cnc ,to work on cues and engraving will be a big part
works as a vinyl plotter x axis.
Muito bom o final hehehehe 🤣
Could You tell me, what is the gear ratio (pulley ratio) of rotary axis and its stepper and how to compensate it?
Oh, I found Your other video explaining that :D Thanks!
good stuff thanks. I'm looking at getting one
+barry 5284
Welcome. You will enjoy having one.
did you use a UC100 USB Motion Controller with Mach3 on a laptop
+barry 5284
No, I use an older pc with a parallel port.
Charlie do you know if it would run from a laptop with a UC100 USB Motion Controller
+barry 5284
I haven't had to try it, so I'm not sure.
great.
Thanks!
I love it! Is that very special flashlight the freebie from Harbor Freight?
Jerald Doerr
Glad you enjoyed it,lol. Although I do have several of their freebies, no, this is a UV flashlight I bought to use in a practical joke on my sister, lol.
Great video Charlie!!!, thank for share it. Im looking to buy one of this one to mill wax. Do you think its a good option for the accuracy? It is possible to import STL files and then milling on this machine?
Best Regards, Charlie.
Thanks, glad you liked the video. Certainly accurate enough, yes. For the STL files, you'll have to use some software to convert STL files to G-Code to run the CNC. Have at it! :)
Very nice! Thank you for sharing!
I have one question if its possible to answer me..
On 5.38 you are starting with (/)... but how do you find the center!
I know maybe its a stupid question but im struggling to understand how to find the center of a piece!
Thank you in advance
Wanting the text centered along the flat of the flashlight... At 5:26, I aligned the tool center with the left side of the flat, then zeroed the X axis. Then moved the tool to the right side of the flat. In the DRO I typed: / 2
[ENTER]
Thanks for the excellent video. Where I can get the fourth axis system and what value it has, it seems good for me to do many innovation works in a 360 degree turn ... thanks for your answer
The rotary came with the machine as I bought the 4 axis version.
Hi, thanks for the video, very helpful. When I follow your video and apply it to my rotary axis my engraved text comes out the mirror image of what it should be. Any idea how to fix this?
Thanks, Chris. If the tool path shows up correctly in the Mach3 tool path display, but is mirrored in practice, then you should only need to reverse the axis in Mach3 settings. Config_ Ports&Pins_ Motor Outputs_... Check (or uncheck) the Dir LowActive setting for the rotary axis. Should take care of it. :)
My head just exploded
Perhaps you missed a step, lol.
Hi, can you tell me where I get the CNC machine ?
away from 4th rotary axis: using a new blank car key: can the machine precisely cut it to the desired shape? .. I believe the challenge is deciding the xyz refrence starting point
?Can a mach3 program deal with 5 axis cnc
?What is the maximum number of lines it can handle
if machine to system communiction not working which type we need to connect

Hi guys. I like your VDO. I need to know if order CNC this model how much of the price.
Hey guys can u please give me advice.. I’m doing wooden stuff like wooden rings and wooden glasses and more of accessories so I’m looking for the best CNC machine for wooden art
Thank u so much if u can help x
Hello, I want to get into carving cnc router and want to learn how to use it. Please help and list me things that I need to get start.
I am using feature cam for my cnc milling machine. Please list ALL stuff that I need as a BEGINNER. Thanks
Hello Goodnight. I'd like to see if you can advise me on setting up the spinle in Match3. Specifically, the parameters in "motor tuning and setup. I have had this machine for three months and have not been able to configure it. I would appreciate it if you could help me. Thanks and regards.
In my case, I have the spindle setup on a relay (on/off) and the speed is controlled manually. I might be able to help you with the motor tuning. Email me at sunny5rise@gmail.com
Send some pictures of your machine and some motor specifications and I'll look at it.
where is the website for it ? where can I buy one ?
Hi
From where can I found the caliper that shown in 4:24??
+بهاء رجب
Just do an internet search for "1in/25mm Digital Indicator" and "Magnetic Indicator Base".
Hi Charlie, I have same router but the problem is that it does not respond to Mech3. It only works with chinese CNC USB controller software. can you please suggest me something , how did you made it work with Mech3.
Hello! Thank you for your videos, it's very helpful.
I just bought same cnc and i can't understand how to make friends cnc and Mach3. I use USB cable. Maybe this is the problem and i should use LPT cable + LPT-USB? What configuration do you use? Or maybe you use regular USB cable and some specific drivers?
P.S. Sorry for my english.
vadddoo Hello there. I had to look into the USB version a bit so that I could answer your question. Firstly, my unit only uses parallel ports (LPT), which is what Mach3 was designed for. It looks like the USB version of this machine has to use other controller software such as that offered at PlanetCNC. I'm not sure if there are any special drivers available that will allow Mach3 to work with the USB machine. There might be though, so keep searching.
Thank you for your answer! :)
vadddoo very welcome

Very positive laugh.

where to buy the CNC 3020T-DJ/Mach3
wondering what kind of g code programming you are using you said ripper program what exactly is that ? Bob cad ,inventor, solid works?
G-code- ripper is one of them. Link in description.
Which is the most accurate belt drives or screw drives?
I have only used my belt drive, so I can't really say for sure. I don't have any accuracy issues, but I'm not making aerospace parts either, lol.
Threaded rods are more accurate usually but it depends on the thread pitch against the number of pully teeths and belt pitch, also the threads are better in holding position once you move you can denergize the motor and still hold position perfectly while a belt system could easily be moved
Screw drives, if you have anti-backlash devices installed.
I have a CNC router with Mach 3 usb card but gcode ripper but it never worked could u help please
Hi, I have the same machine but with 5 axes. Could you tell me how to correctly calibrate a 5-axis machine, bring all axes to 0 (perhaps there is an auto-calibration function in Mach3).
email me at sunny5rise@gmail.com and I'll send you some information and try to help.
Charlie
this is new field for me , so I ask if you make this because the chuck is not fixed in the router table?
if some one want to make the post processor fit his machine configuration(the 4&5 axis center or pivot point ) , he do not need to modify the programming code of the machine , is this right?
he can determine these parameters by positioning the spindle or probe in some position , is this right?
What size rotary is that? Where did you get it? How is this it connected? I am a jeweler. I need something like that for milling modeling wax. Awesome work!
Thank you. The rotary is 2 inch (50 mm). It came with the machine. I got the 4 axis version. It connects to the included control box via 4 prong cable just as the other motors.
hello I would like to know what are the parameters for the rotary axis tuning motor, ie the A, I have an equal cnc and I have not managed to make it work, thanks
In the description is a link to my previous video on rotary configuration. Should help you out.
I'm looking into a similar machine. I was curious if the 4th axis can be spun 90 degrees to engrave longer pieces
Yes, absolutely.
@@sunny5rising thank you for the quick response! Much appreciated!
Hello
Can the laser be installed instead of the engine in the CNC 3040 4 axis Router.
Is the electronic circuit has a place to install a laser cable.
I imagine that is possible, one way or another.
Charlie where did cncwrapper download go?
i cant download at scorchworks
It's in the video description. Just checked and it's still working.
hey I've got that same cnc, lately I have to push the spindle to get it going. If I just turn it on that's not enough, I have to physically push it. Once pushed it will spool up normally.
Any idea what could cause that?
With the spindle off, turn the spindle slowly by hand. Do you feel any resistance that would cause it not to initially spin up? Feel and grinding? If so, possibly bearing failure. That's where I'd start with testing.
@@sunny5rising Thanks for the quick reply and your thoughts!
I did think of mechanical resistance.. it seems to spin freely/normally.
I do hear the little buzz as it tries to start up.. it just seems too weak or too short...
I will check again to see if there is some resistance...
@@sunny5rising Okay I just checked and it doesn't seem like the motor has any unusual resistance...
I did oil it for fun. Just turned the machine on it's side and dropped some light oil into top and bottom bearings to see if any difference.
Still same result.
I think flipped over the two front switches as they were upside down (down for on).
After that no spindle. So I'm betting I have a wiring problem. I'm going to go over those connections and see if I can find anything...
@@sunny5rising Boom! I pulled the switch jack off the board and jumped it with an alligator. And it's working!
Thanks for the ears and help!!!
Yay, I don't have to push start my spindle anymore!!!
Awesome!
Hi Charlie, I'm looking at getting this model but the resellers are only saying the motor can be switched on and off at the control box. It appears from your code you are using M3 and M5 to switch off from the program - can you toggle it on and off from the code or not please?
As my machine came stock, I could only switch the spindle from the control box. I did do a little modification to the box so I can control the spindle through code. That video is linked here... ua-cam.com/video/OeBqSI8oevA/v-deo.html
@@sunny5rising Thanks Charlie - I'm modifying the 3020 to a 4 axis robotic glueing station. Adding a persistaltic dispenser that can dispense superglue and controlling dispense signal with the output you have used for the motor control. Your video's provide fantastically useful projects to guys like myself who try the unusual!
The three-axis CNC, can work with rotary axis and tailstock??
Yes, All four axes can work at the same time. If that's what you mean.
3020, with capacity of 5cm3
What are the different 3020 version meanings? T, T-DJ etc?
Haven't really looked into that one, so I'm not exactly sure.
very nice machine .. were can I buy such machine please
+alzeeraworks Link in description to one at Amazon or you can probably find it on eBay.
bravo, are you a CNC expert?
Definitely wouldn't call myself an expert, but I do have 16 years experience in the CNC field. At home I do machining and CNC as a hobby.
Don't know if you can help I am new at cnc I am trying to turn a knob with Mach3 and Aspire. I drew it up in Aspire and did all the toolpaths, saved them to a file. When I import it into Mach3 and try to turn it on my 4th axis the spindle always wants to travel to the top of it run. and the project won't run.
First off, John, welcome to the fun world of CNC. Have you been able to successfully run programs on your CNC before this particular one?
