Just finished listening to the whole album /for the umpteenth time/ - probably the most beautiful piece of music I've come across in the last 20 years or so. Melancholic, heart and soul piercing, sorrowful, mesmerising ... absolutely unforgettable.
I'll mount the air on swallow's wings to find my dearest dear And if I lose my labour and cannot find him there I quickly will become a fish to search the roaring seas I love my love Because I know my love and he loves me I'd comb the air and ocean deep to find my dearest dear In all my days and empty nights I cannot find him there I swiftly will become a deer and scour the heathered moors I'll find my love before the winter falls on these shores I'll cast all fear unto the wind and bring him to my soul And if in danger he becomes and tumbles from my hold I'll break the earth on which he lands and rest his head to sleep I am my love because I know my love And he is me I'll mount the air on swallow's wings to find my dearest dear And if I lose my labour and cannot find him there I quickly will become a fish to search the roaring seas I love my love Because I know my love and he loves me I'll mount the air on swallow's wings to find my dearest dear And if I lose my labour and cannot find him there I quickly will become a fish to search the roaring seas I love my love Because I know my love and he loves me A whisper, a memory I can feel that you are near me Oh I feel that you are near me Oh I wish it to be I'm holding, I'm crying In hope that you can hear me Oh I feel that you are near me Oh I wish you to be
My guess is the Trad Folk guys will hate this (still Playing the Wild Rover eh lads). To me, probably the most innovative piece of music I've heard in years. Beautiful treatment of a beautiful Dorset Folk Song.
No amount of syrupy string backing, over-busy drumming or trumpet noodling can disguise the underlying inconsequentiality. "Heart and soul piercing, sorrowful, mesmerising"? "Utterly beautiful"? Utterly banal, more like. Bah humbug!
Leigh Hughes It's nice enough I suppose but a bit coffee table. Can you recommend any modern folk with more bite/edge? It seems to me there are 10,000 twee, whimsical acts at the moment but not much which is just straight up kicking tunes. And I personally don't like much of the Jazz element in folk music. It can work but a lot of the time it seems to dilute rather than enhance a good tune.
The entire album is a classic and this particular tune is a standout among diamonds
I just heard this on Radio 2...I had it on in the kitchen. Had to dash in, turn it up and then Google straight away! What an awesome chance discovery!
I cant go and see them, they fill a space that's sound and paints pictures that they put in my head they are so much bigger as sound
I have a vision of Hozier covering this that I think needs to be fulfilled...
Tear-jerkingly beautiful - the girls' voices are so pure and natural.
Just heard this on Lyric FM in Ireland and had to look them up as soon as I got home. Beautiful.
Thank you to BBC 6 music for getting me here! Lovely piece, keenly awaiting the album!
Truly Wonderful.... good to see you all at the Christening.

Charming video and nice to see them still channelling their inner Robert & Alfie

Hi There! you guys are really amazing, from Lima,Peru...Fernando.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Utterly beautiful
very excited about the new albumn
Saw them...brilliant!
The beginning is magical like Miles Davies his Sketches of Spain!
I'll mount the air on swallow's wings to find my dearest dear
And if I lose my labour and cannot find him there
I quickly will become a fish to search the roaring seas
I love my love
Because I know my love and he loves me
I'd comb the air and ocean deep to find my dearest dear
In all my days and empty nights I cannot find him there
I swiftly will become a deer and scour the heathered moors
I'll find my love before the winter falls on these shores
I'll cast all fear unto the wind and bring him to my soul
And if in danger he becomes and tumbles from my hold
I'll break the earth on which he lands and rest his head to sleep
I am my love because I know my love
And he is me
I'll mount the air on swallow's wings to find my dearest dear
And if I lose my labour and cannot find him there
I quickly will become a fish to search the roaring seas
I love my love
Because I know my love and he loves me
I'll mount the air on swallow's wings to find my dearest dear
And if I lose my labour and cannot find him there
I quickly will become a fish to search the roaring seas
I love my love
Because I know my love and he loves me
A whisper, a memory
I can feel that you are near me
Oh I feel that you are near me
Oh I wish it to be
I'm holding, I'm crying
In hope that you can hear me
Oh I feel that you are near me
Oh I wish you to be
wonderful, cant wait for the new album, greetings from germany
A delicious bite of folky bluesy jazzy pie...
Your performance of this at Solfest was so so beautiful :) I loved it!!
they still peel layers of my skin off, they are awesome, they make me more and they make me less.
this sounds like agony
a fantastic album, but even better heard live! rachel's voice is - for me - perfection.
