  • There's a few uploads of this on UA-cam. Each one getting clearer than the last. This one is a little better. I definitely think this telecast is an improvement on the MGM version.

    All of a sudden this movie popped into my head. I remember watching this movie with my dad almost sixty years ago. I wonder why a memory such as this out of nowhere suddenly appeared. Whatever the case, I welcomed it. I don’t recall what the movie was about, but only that my dad and I both really enjoyed it. It’ll be 20 years since my dad’s passing. This recollection put a smile on my face and warmed my heart. Love you dad ❤.

    I love this addition of Brigadoon it’s my favorite addition, I believe everyone did everything fabulously, and was only around 4-5 years old, and remember it very well, couldn’t find it for decades, but I finally found it, I was so happy, and still am, I remember thinking SallyAnn Howes was the prettiest girl I’d ever seen.

    I love this production . These songs need to be sung, and Robert Goulet and Sally Ann Howes sure did sing them! Much better than the original cast, which was more of a dance-fest.

    I remember watching this nearly 60 years ago. I can remember virtually every word and note just as it was so beautifully was it performed. Such a shame that the original recording has not survived so that people today could hear just how magnificent this musical was and how great were the talents of Goulet, Howes and Falk. Thanks for posting this holy relic. JMK

      The late Sally Ann Howes's vocal and dramatic characterization of Fiona is a real gem.

      On "The Heather On The Hill", Ms. Howes's lyrical mezzo-soprano voice blends very well with Mr. Goulet's rich baritone.

      “Come to Me, Bend to Me” is pure, transcendent beauty. Would that there were a composer like Frederick Loewe today.

    A very nicely done tv video taped movie. Look, they only had so much money and unlike the theatrical film which was a vehicle for gene Kelly, this had only 118 mins to tell it’s story rather than two hours. This was proof that a good deal of “early” tv was excellent. You’d never see a production like this nowadays.

    Peter Falk is perfectly cast as the cynical skeptic. Howes completely owns the female lead part. She was nominated for a Tony for this role in 1963, and performed it for President Kennedy at the White House in a special command performance. Goulet was a classically trained baritone which blends well with Howes, who transitioned from actress to operetta singer at this time.

    Marlyn Mason delivered a delightful performance as Meg. She was a fine singer and actress, and she had pretty feet! (Ms. Mason also played Carrie in "Carousel" for ABC in 1967, with Robert Goulet as Billy Bigelow.)

    Who in the world approved this remake? It's awful! While I love Robert Goulet, he portrays absolutely no emotion. Peter Falk, an accomplished actor, has no right to assume Van Johnson's role. The entire production is hideous. I was surprised to come across this version and am extremely disappointed. The original is incredible!!

      Sally Ann Howes is a vision. I prefer this television version to the MGM movie, which is severely miscast.

      You know you can't call this a remake when the film was based on the Broadway play in (1947) I think. The film also had three songs cut from the Broadway production and the sword dance is also missing from the film. You can substitute Goulet's voice for Kelly's dancing. Cyd Charrise & Gene Kelly didn't get along and Jane Powell was considered for the role of Fiona in the film version. This version is the complete Broadway version done live.

      The original was the highly-acclaimed 1947 Broadway musical. The 1954 movie version was ill-conceived, charmless, got poor reviews, and lost money. The 1966 TV production was a relatively low-budget project, designed for the small screen. It was not an attempt to outdo the musical or the film, but to showcase the popular Goulet and Howes. Nevertheless, it garnered five Emmy awards.

    • @kelleyceccato7025
      @kelleyceccato7025 4 місяці тому +2

      The 1954 has its moments, but too many songs were cut. I can't really call it "Brigadoon" unless I hear "Come to Me, Bend to Me."
      This version has its issues too, however. Goulet sings "The Heather on the Hill" more like a lounge singer than like a Broadway baritone.
