    Whew! I did it but i tried using a biro so the lines would be lighter. However, it needed lots of touching up. I have been trying to do looser watercolour but can’t get the hang if itso this was definitely a help and didn’t destroy my confidence like loose watercolour. Thankyou. I can really appreciate your delicate linework Matt. 👍🦆🦉🦊🐕🐇

    This style suits my interest and skills best. I love realistic wildlife painting, My drawing skills are good enough, but my WC painting isn't quite there yet. Certainly hope my WC skills continue to evolve, but I love this style of WC art. How much background detail should be considered with this style? What is too much?

    Great video Matt, and thank you for sharing. I'm so glad you tell us about your art materials. One question: why use dip/nib pens instead of a fountain pen? (I'm not sure which one to get) 2:10 isn't it more like "arsh" ?

    • @girl-rp8my
      @girl-rp8my 3 роки тому +1

      If you use fountain pen, It will surely overflow with the watercolor, I experienced it😂

    • @anjapinkau3737
      @anjapinkau3737 Рік тому

      @@girl-rp8my Only if you use the wrong ink. If you use waterproof ink, a fountain pen is great! I use Rohrer & Klingner Sketch Ink in a TWSBI Vac with a fine nib. Depending on how much pressure you use and at what angle you hold the pen, you can have some very light marks and some thicker, and you can exchange the nibs in a TWSBI Vac. I'm happy with my system, but I have to admit that those nibs like in the video create even crisper and more beautiful lines. I haven't switched to pen-and-ink yet because a fountain pen is more convenient than a pen without ink reservoir, but with an open bottle of ink that can easily be toppled over (yes, the huge black stain under my desk is still very visible!). And you have to take good care of your nibs. But at least the fountain pen is still nicer than a fineliner.

    Really nice! What do you mean by pulling or pushing the nib pen?

    • @thevirtualinstructor
      @thevirtualinstructor  3 роки тому +2

      You should try to pull the pen, making motions towards your body. If you push the nib outward, you risk the nib catching the tooth of the paper, which could result in a splatter of ink.

    Hi Matt, I was experimenting with my nibs last night and I found the ink was not flowing through the point. I would dip and fill the point but the ink stayed in the nib. The nibs are new. I was wondering if you had any thoughts about this.

    • @thevirtualinstructor
      @thevirtualinstructor  3 роки тому

      Just make sure you are not getting too much ink on the nib. If there is too much ink, the ink won't flow. The ink you use may make a difference too. What kind are you using?

    • @moonwoven
      @moonwoven 3 роки тому

      @@thevirtualinstructor The ink I used was Sennelier but I have also noticed a similar phenomena with Noodlers. I like the nibs because of the differing sizes but the only one with which I have had some success is the larger one. Thank you for your response. I am a huge fan and find your lessons on the Virtual instructor clear and translatable to my work as a new artist.

      I find my Crow quill nibs can vary and are sometimes temperamental, especially when they’re new. When they don’t flow, a quick wipe with a paper towel gets them going again.

    In your sketching, I noticed you'd been dragging your pencil back and forth instead of just drawing the line straight. I want to know if that’s the way to do sketches. I’ve noticed this too from other artists like yourself, and I am now more curious.
