Thank you for this video. I have been retired for a very long time and was checking a battery charger I have that quit. I could not remember if I should get a reading between the anode or cathode and gate. I looked everywhere and could not find the answer I needed. Thank you for this video. Excellent info.
Great, it is clear, however not so when you consider enough or too high resistence values. How do you decide what is enough or high? has this criteria rounding the Thyristor size? Please help us to understand better, Appreciated
Hello. would recommend apply voltage with the battery to test the SCRs while they are still mounted on a soft starter ???. or is this done only when SCr is been removed ??? are you familiar on how to do voltage drop test to verify contactors health on soft starter??? I been told there is formula to calculate the expected milli volt reading , but cant find much info.
hello and congratulations, I have a question, I often deal with 24 to 80 V DC-powered handling systems driven by SCRs of 200-300 A and above managed by the relevant logic/controller. Let's assume that I have an anomaly elsewhere and the SCRs don't come into operation, how can I energize them manually to test them without dismantling them? Let me explain better, the systems control motors, if these do not turn usually the technician energized the first SCR to make them turn, the second SCR which charged a capacitor and then a third SCR which with a sort of countercurrent turned off the first (usually they are disk st333 as in the video, by doing so he was certain that all the power was ok, and he could move on to troubleshooting the auxiliary part, the driving, safety devices etc., therefore what voltage and polarity should I give to the gates always taking into account that some machines are powered by 24v, others by 48, others by 80 and so on. Thank you.
It would be great to see the resistance from anode to cathode while the gate signal is turned on and continue reading while removing gate signal. It should conduct until reverse biased. Thank you for the video.
Hey man, I have a mini lathe with a brushed dc motor driven by SCR’s (A69154) and cannot for my life find a data sheet for. Do you possibly have the resources? I’ve got 76ohm b/t outside leads but not sure which is gate or cathode.
The preassure required for these hokey puck diodes is stated in the datasheet, but how the heck do i verify the clamping force? I just tighten the bolts on the heatsink but i have no idea how much force i am applying... Any ideas?
@@surgingcircuits6955 The only time I have seen the term "Line" used is when referencing power distribution in commercial and residential systems...[Line - Neutral - Ground.] The proper term for that would be Open Circuit.
@@DrHarryT , thx. I adopted Open Line for continuity mode checking. No connection, on a DMM, shows O.L. - and I don't consider it Over Limit. So, that's what I was referring to. For other modes (e.g. measuring resistance), if you're set under the measurement, it will be Over Limit. Cheers!
great video, also in vacuum spaced tubes the electron has to break free and travel through the mostly empty vacuum to cause current flow...thanks...:\ which direction?
Thanks for your video. Any possible change to gate 5,4 and 6,7 connected. I mean 5 to 7 or 6 to 4 are connected. Actually I have a this type of thyristor which shown is 5 to 7 31 M ohm, 5 to 6 31 M ohm and 4 to 7 31 M ohm, 4 to 6 32 M ohm. But another thyristor's showing OL/open loop those point combination. Please reply me.
Great work, but if we setting the dial of multi meter on diode tester ..and without applying a signal current on the gate just applying a compression force on it By testing Anod and cathode by diode selection tester is not enough. , please I need to your answer.
The video demonstrates a quick method to determine the quality of most scr devices. If the example described didnt give you sufficient results, to be more precise, a bench top setup with variable power source is needed.
I think your mistaken . The scr shouldn’t show resistance while scr is off. How I check a bad scr in my industrial facility. Is any one scr that shows any resistance while off is bad . That has always been the case
I apologize as I do not use WhatsApp. What are the doubts? Also, please be reminded this video is explaining how to test with minimal resources. If you have more advanced skills and equipment, there are better ways to test.
The pressure requirement is what landed me here. Works great now. Thanks 😊

Thanks, this helped me identify defective thyristors in welding machines.

Liked and subscribed! Had to test some puck SCRs today.
Good teacher. Thank you very much🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great video! Very informative thorough presentation!
Great video. Sir, please make the video on IGCT testing

It was so helpful to me.

I have a puck scr that is reading resistance without any pressure on it. Does that mean it’s shorted?
I always viewed "OL" as Over Limit meaning the resistance is beyond the range of the meters current setting.
Situation; Over Limit for some, Open Line for others.

Oh, and other's I've heard refer to it as "Open Lead", too. Guess it's a either a preference, or a mystery. :D
Very helpful cheers for that
Is 1.6meg ohms to low on the SCR anode to cathode? The new ones we have are 20 meg ohms

On a 40TPS08A if i have only negative resistance is the SCR is defect ??
Brilliant video.Thanks.

Incorrect
What if an scr after being triggered doesnt stay on
Good work
Thanks!
Now in this video, the 3 scr's are working or not working?

Who makes dislike its unbelievable
now what does he eat
80kohms scr also we are using in service , its working normal sir
Please remember this is quick tutorial on standard SCRs. There are thousands of different builds which can have different readings.

Battery tester using Volt?
Good video sir nice sharing 👉👉👉👉❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
its posible recuperate a SCR bad?
No, like a light bulb, once it is burned out...It's done.
i think of pictures of grumpy (negative) cats and that reminds me the Cathode is always negative
