I was living in San Francisco and my Jr. H.S. was just a few blocks away from the People's Temple church. When the tragedy occurred, I was haunted by the tragedy and obsessed with why this happened for decades, watching every documentary on it. I have to watch this one.

@@YolandaAnneBrown95726 I read the book the Road to Jonestown where Vernon was interviewed. When Larry Layton, the man who shot him on the plane, was up for parole, Vernon actually spoke on his behalf. He did get released in 2002/2003 but nothing else has been reported on his whereabouts.

It must’ve been both heartrending and cathartic for Vern to constantly relive that awful day. I always appreciated his forthrightness, even as he told the most painful parts of his story. I hope that he finally found his peace in the end.

There still are people like this out there, cheap sales people that sell an ideal of what people are looking for and then get them to do criminal acts. Albeit smaller groups, but still happening.

I wonder if this would’ve ended differently had that reporter not confronted Jim & everyone turned the cameras off. I understand why they were there, but people were frightened to speak of leaving, let alone do it on camera, & they were recording all their “secret conversations.” That must’ve made Jim furious & created quite a stir. You can see the terror in their eyes.

    • @PrtyBlaque318

I came on here after watching (yet already familiar with the story) to see if anyone else felt this. I felt bad that I felt some type of way towards the reporter, especially since he lost his life. But, I truly believe had they just got the heck outta dodge - not even bother with the mini interview with the Senator after he got stabbed - they may have been okay. Sadly, I think alot things they did poked the bear. They say they came to help. Why antagonize the situation? The minute he showed him that note, I threw up my hands and said, Cmon now bruh! What you being messy for? Imagine you are the one who passed the note and saw that! Like oh no, thats not the way this was supposed to go at all.😣😣😣😣😣

@@PrtyBlaque318 Yes! I was furious when he showed Jones the note! Why show him unless you’re trying to get “good content.” Did they not see the fear in the people’s eyes? Maybe they underestimated Jones, but I believe that reporter was just trying to get the scoop & ratings, especially back then.
