Another outstanding talk from Chris Rufo. He is clearly, calmly and articulately setting a path forward for humanity. He is not speaking for conservatives. He is speaking for the best ideas of classical liberalism that have been proven to lift everybody in society.
Finding out that Chris has left wing roots makes a lot fall into place. I find that he has a much deeper sensitivity to and is able to refute left wing arguments much more effectively than other right wing commentators like Matt Walsh and Chris Knowles who seem more to be preaching to the choir.
Good discussion. One major question that keeps popping up for me is what have the conservatives been fighting for the past 30 years? I’ve only been in the political arena for a year or so but I see the liberal/left has taken over pretty much all institutions. What have conservatives been doing this entire time? I just struggle to understand their failings here .
Brian - The best way to understand this is to read the "Age of Reagan," by Sean Wilentz volumes I and II. Ronald Reagan came into office during a serious recession and went to work to address the economy which had been wracked by high federal taxes and over-regulation. By lowering tax rates and rolling back federal government regulation the economy was unleashed. Things were so vastly improved President Reagan was reelected in a 49 state landslide. Ronaldus Magnus was successful by employing conservative principles of de-centralizing federal government power over the citizenry while exerting or country's sovereignty by hardening our borders and strengthening the military. His roaring economy enabled Reagan to so vigorously fund an arms race with the USSR that Gorbachev collapsed his country's economy bringing not only an end to the Cold War but an end to the Soviet Union. But Reagan started out as a Democrat. When he changed parties he famously said, "I didn't leave the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party left me." The best way to understand conservatives is to understand Ronald Reagan. And the chronicler who best understood conservatism was William F. Buckley, Jr. If your read any of WFB's writings you'll be in a master class with the added benefit of expanding your vocabulary!
The failing is having these kinds of "intellectuals" with confused identity (getting from being methodist, then catholic, now orthodox... wtf is that?) who then finds his prophet of conservative politics in the form of a small east European wanna be strong man, who is not even a conservative 🤦♂️
I keep hearing the “charisma” thing about DeSantis. I disagree. Yea he doesn’t have the charisma of a Trump or even an Obama but he does have a reasonable level of it. He does speak powerfully and passionately about things.
I disagree with Rufo on his Libertarian governor take. I would love to see more Libertarians in executive roles at the state and federal levels. We need cuts to government, period.
Trump isn’t going to cut it. I like his spirit but if he gets in there we will have another 4 years of madness. Most of the madness coming from how the liberal/left .
He is 100% right about DeSantis. The left wing hates DeSantis because they can see what Rufo sees that he really knows how to drive change. Conservatives that have been criticizing DeSantis for not being libertarian enough are completely missing the point. I am a hard core libertarian but I’m tired of losing to the left and DeSantis has figured out how to make real progress.

Great stuff Chris! I wish I could become the Brazilian version of you

Michael Knowles?
@@kathybenton2680 Correct, Michael Knowles. Thanks for pointing that out. 👍🏻
Greetings from Budapest
Two of the most important thinkers in today’s conservative movement
You done good, Christopher.
Chris Rufo comes across as authentic and humble...a pleasure to listen to....love the reference to GK Chesterton.
Thanks!
Excellent

They’ve been busy losing.
They've been raging against homosexuality, abortion and equal rights. That is literally all they have been doing.

As a British 21 year old, I have massive respect for both of these men.
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
I have given multiple people copies of The Benedict Option since it came out. In fact, I don’t seem to have a copy of my own any longer!
Ron Disantas is proudly pro slavery. What a wonderful role model.
I want nothing to do with that man. Has he repented yet from wanting to drop Trump supporters from a moving plane?
He is donor class funded neocon.
Pay what you owe. 40 acres and a mule.
Shouldn't Rod Dreher be focused more on exorcisms?
Desantis is a perfectly competent politician. He lacks two things presently that make a critical difference:
1) Soaring rhetoric
2) Charisma
Neither of those are necessary however they are both favored tactics of the left and of the evil.
I keep hearing the “charisma” thing about DeSantis. I disagree. Yea he doesn’t have the charisma of a Trump or even an Obama but he does have a reasonable level of it. He does speak powerfully and passionately about things.
Yes, unfortunately true. The GOP base is still wedded to the Trump cult, despite him being a grifter and not a real conservative.
Did you see the head wobble in Japan?
@@HostileTakeover555 charisma aka overconfident bullshit just tell the truth and get the job done. lets get him in with rufo over the d. of education

His comment on MLK makes it sound like his entire view of MLK is based off nothing more than one line from one speech.
Perhaps. But it’s the one line that united the political parties to create a national holiday named for him.
Rod its the universe. You're gay. Its fine. Just be gay. Nobody will be mad
Unfortunately DeSantis is tanking in the polls. We are going to be stuck with Trump.

Stuck with a person who kept his promises and broke through to marginalized groups. Tragic.
