What’s the longest long run you’d do? And how far out. I’ve been working 13, 15, 18 miles consecutively. Up to maybe a 22 4-5 weeks out. I had a 24 in my training for sub 3, but maybe too long idk.
Longest run I ever did was a 30 miler leading into the 2011 Monumental marathon (5th in 2:26:42) but that was only ONCE...most of my long runs ranged from 17 to 23 miles in length. Hope this helps. What you are doing sounds right to me..gradual increase in duration and slightly faster the fitter you get).
@@rundreamachievethanks coach! Appreciate the response and great content. BQd last year 2:57, but didn’t make the cut. So running for that sub 2:50 this year, let’s go!
I'm 43 and ran a 1:20 half marathon last year. 2:49.59 is my goal this October. My old legs don't enjoy track work, so I stick to 2 short runs, one tempo run, one sub-pace run and one long run per week. Is this feasible in your opinion with that training?
Absolutely. You do the best you can with what works best for you. I know many runners who do no speed work but focus on endurance and stamina work like this and get legit results. yes, very feasible
Thanks for the sub and appreciate your support. Awesome job dropping that 3:05. LEGIT running my friend. Keep me posted on your progress..you definitely have a sub 2:50 in you
@@rundreamachieve CIm is next! Dec will be my 1year running consistently.. after not competing 12-15yrs . And my 3rd marathon for the year . Boston in April 2024 I am in as of tonight what a evening . 3 marathons🤞🏿and money more to go🖤🏁👟
I'm trying to run a sub 3 hour marathon this April at London (3:11 Oct 21 at London). However 4:12/km feels unachievable at this point (18 weeks out) is that normal? Following 1 speed session + 1 long run a week with easy pace runs inbetween. 70km pw > 100km pw by peak week.
Outstanding time you have already dropped running that 3:11! Of course, goal pace always seems unachievable in the early stages of a build up. Be patient and keep working on that goal pace. The body takes between 3 to 4 weeks to adapt to any stress load being placed on it. So, keep putting in the work. It will pan out in due time and focus on a 10-day taper.
Coming back to this comment almost a year later, I managed to run 2:59:47 at London April 23! Thanks for all the advice. Actually stumbled back here looking for tips on a sub 2:50 this April 24 😅

This is fantastic advice. I ran 2:47 this past weekend and can say that everything said here is accurate.
Appreciate your support Nick and VERY well done dropping that 2:47, an extremely competive time. Keep me updated on your future races.

Any time. Thanks for your support. 💪💪💪💪

Super helpful thank you. Would you say there generally needs to be one tempo session, one vo2 max session and one long run per week?
Appreciate the support Charlie. 100%. Yes, 1, vo2 max, 1 long run and 1 tempo run per week. Spot on. Keep me updated on your progress my friend.
