Relabled Genmax. For turning off the gas, if you move the dial to just before the off position(sweet spot is a hair out) it will close the fuel valve and run the carb dry. 1st time Ive seen that propane purge tip, nice.
Will give that a shot this weekend! Will also be load testing, decibel testing (for state parks), upgrading (spark plug, hour meter), providing valve clearance specs and probably more this weekend on this little gen. Good times.
Dinking also makes the Maxpeeding Rod generator. Basically the same thing except it comes with electric start. Sadly, the one I bought had a faulty battery, and it’s really difficult to use the recoil with propane. Looking forward to whatever trick you have about making the recoil start easier…..I will admit I haven’t gone to 18 yet, though, in trying to get the darn thing started.
Yeah the Predator 3500 was nice when it came out, but now it's wildly overpriced and oversized/overweight compared to competition. It's so nice to see what's becoming available in the sub $550 range for inverter generators. The sweet spot to me is under 60 lbs, under 70 decibels, minimum 3600/3000 watts and preferably dual fuel, although I typically use ethanol free gas.
I’m really drawn to the Maxpeedingrod 4000GT for all its bells & whistles. Since you’re the go-to guy, I hope to see you take a look at it before I make a decision on one of these. Please don’t stop with the inserts, they are totally worthwhile!
They had promised to send some units out for review and then never did which is unfortunate. I followed up a few times and it became pointless. They definitely have some bells and whistles to them!
i have champion 2500 watt(3 years) and 2000 watt (2years) both run the 5000 btu window A C, battery charger, furnace off batteries and i have a plastic cover from a storage bin, with filters for air and 12 volt small radiator fan helps kept the dirt out and have had some surge on 2500 this last season in Arizona so i used small amount of acetone in gas tank (2 full tanks)and it stopped the surge i get 8 to 9 hours on one gallon of gas
Is there any possibility of changing out/upgrading the 30amp receptacle once you have it all torn a part? I saw your video of the new version that has the regular 30 amp RV plug, but I like the smaller size and weight of this unit better.
Great video! I just bought one on sale at Walmart $489. Still in the box and I'm planning to do the same mods and break in. Oh, I used your links to buy a few accessories like the magnetic dipstick, etc. Both of your videos are great! It looks like this is the same company that makes the Genmax, which seems to be taking the small inverter gen market by storm!
Excellent review! I live in high altitude New Mexico, how do you get to the carburetor to replace the jet to a high altitude jet? Thanks in advance. Subscribed.
just checked valve lash cold .0025 Exhaust, Intake .002. That on good runner other one vibrates aleeady adj and did not take stock specs as .004 did not go in
Would lining the plastic case where possible with dynamat (sound deadner) assist with lowering the DB’s or would you think it would retain to much heat and hurt the generator?
GREAT VIDEO!!! 1. Can you specify the dimensions of this unit? 2. I'm interested in installing it on a boat (dry space). Do you think it'll survive? 3. Would it be possible to setup a remote start on this unit? Thanks!
As most of these newer small inverter generators are coming with a floating neutral and you tend to do tear downs anyway while at the same time most any use case for these small generators needs to have bonded neutral on the generator to be safe and comply with NEC codes, do you ever want to get into bonding the neutral in the generator as opposed to us realizing it is wrong and unsafe for our application just using a bonding plug? For an example of why it is unsafe is say you plug in a power tool with a metal case using an extension cord at the job site. The neutral has no tie to ground. So now say the tool develops a short to the case. Well now the metal case of the power tool and any exposed metal part of the generator is energized, so if you touch it, you are touching an energized surface. Now say you have neutral bonded to ground and you develop the same short to the case of the power tool. Now it has a path back to the source over the neutral-ground bond that you made and the breaker pops, clearing the fault. Now it is safe to touch the metal case of the power tool as well as touch any exposed metal parts to the generator.
A very good topic to discuss. I might cover it in a future video, dedicated to the topic. Such a quick and easy, I am surprised they don't just do this factory.
Excellent point and one that most buyers are unaware of. Some small generators such as the Honda EB2200i are bonded, while the EU2200i is not. I believe the reason manufactures may choose to not bond a particular generator is that it is mostly intended to power an RV, which already is bonded at the RV electrical panel. Only one bond is needed, as a second bond would create its own set of problems.
@@acwilsn I believe the only one neutral bond applies to house connections. The reason why they use the neutral bond plug is because when you hookup a un bonded generator to a rv surge protector it shows a fault and wont work. When you plug in the dummy neutral plug the surge protector works as normal.
If you don’t have an EMS in your RV, then you can use either a bonded or non-bonded neutral generator. If you DO have an EMS installed, then you’ll want to use a bonded neutral generator.
I Got mine start yesterday 20 pulls? Bled purged slowly so reg not trip. Once going vibrated a lot. Tried gas easy start. Should I try new plug. Hard restart when warm on choke over fueled wouldn't run. On run I do not think started when warm
Thanks for the great info. I just ordered one for my aframe camper. What Spark plug replacement is best for this model? Also, is there a torque spec for valve cover after greasing gasket? Thanks.
Great review, nice machine. I have the Dinking version and would like to add a quick connect for the propane side but the fittings seem too small for the quick connect kits I have looked at. Is there a way to do this? Thanks!
I have not checked into the quick connects as I rather have threaded fittings so I can bleed the line off before 1st start. I will try to determine the fitting size.
Thank you. I understand there are pros and cons to connection methods but I would like the option for quick connect if possible. Very much appreciate your help.
This is same phyical size as a Honda 2200. db level from videos isnt but around 2db difference which by ear almost is not noticeable. Im curious on if it will hold a 3200w load?
I have not yet tested the Wen 3600. On paper, it looks decent enough, producing slightly less power than this pulsar. The digital display is a nice touch with hour meter already built in. Not knowing the OEM for it yet, I would stick with what I know and the GD400BN is a really good little gen. My personal generator these days that I kept is the Heimaito 4300iD. Such a nice unit for the cash. Runs amazing.
Hows the generator holding up , im a mobile guy looking for something smaller and powerful and compact to save space on my detailing rig. I will be using it everyday 4-6 hours a day. My predator 3500 just gave out , turns on but turns right off my be the carborator needs to be cleaned
Clean the carb and check valve clearances. Sounds more fuel related per your description. Never had an issue with these little GD400BN's! Less than half the weight of the predator. You are doing it professionally so my only thought is the lack of electric start. That is nice to have when you have to start every single day, sometimes multiple times.
Wow, never realized how many parts were in those little inverter generators. You need a job with NASA working on space ships with your mechanical ability. Best regards!
They only start right away on propane if the line is bled and no oxygen in the line or carb. The trick with these on propane and many dual fuel generators: When first hooking up propane, bleed the line for about 6-8 seconds and then tighten. Starts in 1-3 pulls after that and 1 pull every time after it has run on propane. I do detail this in my videos.
What kind of run time are you getting on 25lb propane? Sounds like you know your stuff.. What would you recommend as far as longer run time on gasoline in case of emergency?
At 50% load, this gen uses around 1.61lbs if propane per hour. Standard tank holds around 17lbs of propane. If you truly have 25lb of propane in your tank, it should run for around 40 hours.
Propane weighs 4.2lb per gallon. Most exchange places or people that fill, never fill a tank to the full 4.7 gallons they are rated for. You are lucky and have a good fill station! That is why I mentioned "holds around 17lbs". They can hold up to 19.74lbs but average more at 17 or even 15lbs.
Interesting, they are telling me something different, you may want to email them to verify. But after seeing how you tore your generator down you are probably not too concerned about the warranty....lol!!! Thanks for the effort and time you put into these videos, it really helped me make my decision on purchasing this generator. The larger GX400BN was a nice unit, but the size of this one sealed the deal for me.@@MR_Garage
That's great! Their website shows 1 year. That is all the info I have to go off of. And nope - tearing down a generator (or anything) does not void warranty. Taking something apart does not void warranty. They would have to show or prove what was done caused the specific failure. Same with using aftermarket parts - not something that can legally void warranty but some (not pulsar) manufacturers try to make you believe it. Luckily, the GD400BN has been rock solid and I have zero reason to ask for warranty! The GX on the other hand...Still no call all week from Pulsar support. Had to followup with them to get a response which they asked for my number and then... crickets... nothing..... Amperage on display still does not work. Guess I have no choice but to send that one back. Bummer. I 100% agree, The size and weight of the GD is outstanding.
wait how adj valves? intake then exaust moved when came up tdc thought good. Now second guessing. Is this correct way? ua-cam.com/video/CMC-SUK4ogM/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
You need to be on the compression stroke. Remove the spark plug and put your finger over the spark plug hole and turn over the engine with the rope. Air should push out the hole slightly on the compression stroke.
@@MR_Garage did you see Champion video? With decomp pull rope waited one valves be down then adj other. I waited valves go slack adj both sides same time? Thought that comp stroke. Cover off I can pull valve cover quick.

18.9"L x 11.4"W x 17.3"H per the specs. No possibility for remote start as it is a pull start only generator.
Thinking about buying a fourth one of these and trying to get 220 from two sets of two in parallel.
that wont work. You would have to buy the Genmax gens designed for 120/240.
