Hey all, want to say thanks for watching the video and just want to note that I made a mistake that I didn't catch in editing. When I was reading from my teleprompter and accidentally said that 47% of the responses to the government consultation on making the puberty blockers ban permanent were in support when it was actually 27%. So no, the government did not manage to create a consultation so rigged more than 100% of respondents responded. When in doubt the text on the screen is to be believed over what I'm saying. Apologies for that, hope you all enjoyed the rest of the (hopefully mistake free) video.
Exemplary work as always - one thing i will add though is that the £22b black hole is actually on top of the £20b of public sector cuts dubbed the 'conspiracy of silence' by the IFS + Owen Jones + others. The 20b of cuts were projected in unprotected departments not included in manifesto grey books. The '£22b black hole' is a combination of £11b of public sector pay awards, £6b of departmental overspend and the rest were capital projects that were considered 'uncosted' (as the OBR has to use government cost projections no matter on their legitimacy) this is why the budget raised over £40b, as it allowed some (not all unprotected dpts) to get away with no cuts (they then asked for this anyway lol) and to cover in-year spending commitments on public sector pay awards by covering both 'black holes'.
Can’t believe anyone thought Keir was a good idea in the first place, tho I guess the alternative wasn’t any better. Voted green for the first time in my life and don’t regret it for one second.
2:03:16 If my mums dealings with Pension Credit and the Winter Fuel allowance is anything to go on, means testing it has completely overwhelmed the system. So even people allowed it under means testing are still probably not going to get it this winter. What a stupid policy, made even worse doing it in the run up to winter.
Christ just finished watching this on my stream SK, I'm bloody knackered now. Well done Comrade ✊🏼 but you must be bone tired after doing that marathon video. If you want I can link my livestream footage of it for you to make sure you like it or want a right of reply.
In my many years on UA-cam, this is possibly the longest video I've watched (OK, I cheated a bit by watching it at 1.35X), but it kept me engrossed and informed right the way through. 👍 *subbed
I'll start, but I can't finish tonight. I do worry even now, it'll just keep going, Truss was rare, mediocre politicians can just... Carry on, there's not a lot that we often do to remove terrible leaders from power 😢 But... I try to stay optimistic, 😅 it'd be nice to see this dude get taken away from the reigns of power. 😊
That's what the timestamps are for in case you need to go and have a life instead of watch a 3 and a half hour video about some guy we hate. Also he really might mess it so bad that he's ousted.
Brexit and being honest that the UK has no leverage to re-enter other than EU members willing to consider it at a cost to the UK addressing EU member demands….and the reault will be a net benefit to UK citizens
Forgive me if this is fantastically ignorant, but could you follow up on your thought at the end that the way forward may not be married to electoral politics? I'm probably missing something obvious!
Ah yes I was more referring to how the main political force rising at the moment is Reform and since Reform draws on (in my view and I plan to expand on it in a video at some point) a tradition aligned with British fascism that they aren’t necessarily married to electoral politics since Fascism broadly doesn’t care about what methods they use to gain power. Which is why while I think there’s some utility in thinking about electoral politics we need to keep our eyes on and be prepared to meet these people outside of that particular sphere.
@SKTheCrusader Brah... _This_ is how you break the news that I am not a bossman? Even at Charcoal Grill? Are you really Turkish? Or did you just misspell tactless?
@@fightthepowerman Start making videos about how good capitalism is, about how good big business is, just read some think-thank papers and make videos. The money will fly to you.
The part on him being a conspiracy theorist is silly. Keir correctly identified that the Conservatives intentionally increased immigration. Immigration increased significantly while they were in government. I think it is unlikely that they happened to be so incompetent that it increased significantly while the main policy they were talking about was reducing it. They could have simply reduced, rather than increased, the number of visas they issued during the time and solved the alleged problem. Of course since it is the Conservatives, they might just be that incompetent, but I think that would be a bit much even for them. There is nothing about identifying this very obvious fact that makes it necessary to believe in the conspiracy theory. The reasons for the Conservatives being pro immigration probably have to do with the shortage of workers in certain industries, as well as it being useful for them to propagandise about the situation. Keir didn't suggest a reason for the previous government policy, but that doesn't mean he believes the conspiracy theory reason. It didn't even occur to me that people would think that was the reason until now. It seems that the group have misrepresented Keir by implying that he agrees with their specific interpretation of the situation. That doesn't say much about Keir though.
Sone ppl just cant get to grips with what it means to run the country and what the government demand sof those who do. If you went into this expecting miracles and massive social change then you completely misunderstood the nature of what it means to be a prime minister of the uk.
I don't think anybody expected miracles, but to get into government with the kind of majority that can easily achieve broadly popular policies like nationalisation of energy, water, mail and rail, but instead decides to piss everyone off enacting policies that will save peanuts in national budget terms takes a special kind of incompetence.
I literally say “no government of any political persuasion could have solved the UK’s problems in 6 months” in the video. It’s not that I was expecting miracles, I was expecting at least a sense of direction of how they intended to solve the problems and that’s missing. So all that’s left is to look at their actions so far and oops turns out it’s all shit and everyone hates it.
@SKTheCrusader how could a new labour prime minister address the entirety of what's become known as neoliberalism? Will he tell you straight on what risks you face and why you should be center right small c centrist in order to evade attack from bad actors?
I was under any illusions as to what Starmer would attempt to achieve. It's why I voted Green. I think you've misunderstood the point of this video. I have never expected change. But the point is - Starmer is failing on his own terms, no the lefts. Where is the growth?
@@sichambers9011 agreed, he is failing on the lefts terms. But the left doesn't set the terms. New Labour is a centrist organisation now, the terms are set by the Tory party, new labour will always be triangulating it's way through the risks the Tory party creates.
Imagine looking at the current state of the conservatives and Reform and thinking that Labour have already lost an election 4.5 years away. Take a chill pill and wait a few years dude.

It’s not that Starmer is stuffed it’s what replaces him that’s scary
