Superbooth 2023: Norand Mono MKII - Modulate and Morph Everything - Very Innovative
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 гру 2024
- We spoke to Mathieu from Norand about their new synth, Norand MK 2, a fully analog synthesizer with a sequencer and super fast patch-changing. While it may appear to be a basic synthesizer at first glance, the device offers an array of features that make it pretty deep. For instance, each parameter has its own modulator and envelope, allowing users to modulate the filter and add an LFO on the frequency with ease. The sequencer allows users to sequence notes and patches, making it easy to achieve something really interesting in just a few minutes.
The oscillator is a triangle core that is slightly skewed, giving it a unique sound. The filter is fully continuous and state-variable, allowing users to move between band pass, low pass, and high pass. The super quick patch shifting even allows you to turn the synth into a drum machine, the pads have x, y and z pressure sensitivity and is capable of moving between standard synth sounds and deep into glitchy weird territory.
Norand MK 2 Available June 2023. Price: 840 Euros

The most innovative of the show, period! It is unfortunate that out of all the reviewers and other supposed influencers, only SonicState took the trouble to report on the release of the NORAND Mono II during the SuperBooth, the others contented themselves with the usual visits to their advertisers / sponsors. If you pretend to be a music technology enthusiast and you don't relay such a machine, it's either that you don't understand its potential and the phenomenal amount of innovation (work) that it encloses, or that your interest is very... let's say... selective. Congratulations to NORAND for this tour de force, in the end it is those who buy these products (and not those who receive them as a 'gift') who determine the true value of an instrument.
All synth makers should use his video as an example of how to present your product. He knows his product - succinct and clear.
True , so many are back room nerds, and cannot speak publicly or have the charisma of a shoe
@@dmomcilovic9185 doesn’t mean they can’t make good stuff though. But they should hire someone who can deliver.
The first time I saw this I was shocked it didn’t take off immediately cause it sounded incredible! This is even better sounding!👽✌️
Thais guy is going to make history. Amazing and brilliant concept.
Interesting piece of gear. Looking forward to a full review of this.
Wow! A lot of functionality handled so efficiently! I agree could be " best in show"!
I absolutely love my mono OG. This is a very interesting young man. Keep up the great work.
Oh, now this is pretty brilliant and unique! Best in show? Could well be.
Yeah we thought it was pretty cool
That's actually really good. I haven't seen this product before.
This synth is brilliant, I hope to see it in the hands of Richard Devine or someone with the same sound inclination at some point, just for the sake of hearing the crazyness that will come out ! If you're into sequenced analog substractive synth, I can't see a reason not to love this one, really...
be the richard of your dreams
Wow! He put so many cool features in there.
this is really excellent
the 1st version of this is awesome! i just the mk2. it makes awesome sounds!!!
Simply, Wow.
That’s really cool and creative thinking
Wow what an incredible synth 😮 this is amazing !!!!!!
Very cool! This is the most desirable synth in this style of format I’ve seen. Lots of amazing features my only wonder is sequencer length and its workflow. Good job dude!
64 step sequencer. If the VST releases i'm sure there will be a workflow that suits a wide range of creators. I agree though it is slightly different than what you expect, but i think that's because of the MPE that has been implemented in such a cool way.
Great desgn and looks like a lot of fun
This thing looks phenomenal
uuuuhh this is getting interesting!!! morphing between patterns in seq. mode in hardware.
This synth is a beast
It's analogue with FPGA for control I think?
@@sonicstate You are absolutly right! I made a typo error, I wanted to say "this synth is a beast"! not a "va beast" xD
Nice 😊
This is an incredible synth. Such a smart design
I will call you Ben NORAND then ;)
Have their vco module but want this.
Wow very nice!
pretty cool machine! want want!
I so wish there was a screen though. Still, it might be worth upgrading my mk1, especially for velocity/aftertouch
so innovative! how many synth patches and synth presets can you store?
I would love to hear this in one of Nick's Friday night fun episodes
Brilliant
Wow. Someone not just replicating old stuff but thinking up new ways of doing something. Good candidate for best in show. Or at least an innovation award.
I want to see Oscillator Sink do a ‘turning this synth into a drum machine’ on *this* one.
ok this is really interesting
I have the Norand Mono MK1 and as you can put an envelope and LFO onto EVERY SINGLE KNOB, it only takes about a minute to create really weird sounds (5 seconds if you're Mathieu from the video). I bought it as "a 303 clone" but it's SO much more! And Mathieu is really crazy, he just rewrote the whole OS to get even more performance out of it (the program / preset changes always were instant already, while in comparison my Modal Argon8 from a much bigger company takes 2 seconds to switch). I love what he's doing, it's so well done.
What did he just say ?
Rewind
"Very high resolution, 1024 ppqn actually..."
1024 ppqn !!!!! 1024 ppqn !!!!... Great Scott !!!!
I need this 😍
This is genius
This and reason object are tied for most innovative synth engine of superbooth 23 I think
Well I wasn't expecting that! - this is like the DFAM added AI and connected it to the mainframe :)
The original Korg Electribes had high res motion control and I've been disappointed no one has done it since, but... who cares. This is awesome.
Do the knobs feels better and are they case mounted?
What are case mounted? I'm interested in learning about that. Do you mean mounted to the chassis vs the pcb? Is that a thing?
No they are not. They do feel better (I have them on morphos). I’m either upgrading my knobs or the whole thing for mk2!
@@kaislate yeah bolted on to the chassis so they don’t put pressure on the pcb solder
@@mamakuproject unfortunately you can’t change the knobs because of capacitive touch and leds the knobs on the mki were the worst knobs I’ve ever used and overall the build quality was pretty bad but it did sound amazing but for that money I want indestructible
@@hollownation yes you can, just email them. €30 for the set
super cool. imagine if it was semi modular..
This is one reason why I dropped DAWs and went DAWLess - the community is really cool and not so corporate.
Wow
Imagine the poly version 🤯
Ya this wins
"the keyboard is replaced by patches." So its AFX mode like the BS2. Sweet!
Super cool shit
NOOOOO!! The beautiful 303 style knobs are gone 😔
They were pretty i comfortable on the fingers though
been testing the mk 1 - very good sounding and the x-mod concept is brilliant also audio rate mod with keytracking is a big plus, otherwise would just be the usual noise. zero-through FM !!! it is worth every penny.
Also don t be fooled, it s not a dead sounding DCO mono!
Will wait for MK IV 😂
This thing sounds mean af for hard forms of techno
Note to self todo: make a good Mk1 demo before getting the Mk2!
TAKE MY MONEY
One of thousands of desktop units, why do people not make good old rack mounted options ?? No space left , need a football pitch
Sounds like a bit of self reflection there
I was a backer of the OG Mono, which also has tons of modulation. OcillatorSync did a great video on that ua-cam.com/video/QAdF4qjH-Rw/v-deo.html
Elon Musk called and wants to know if he can solve Teslas catching on fire!
I hoped it would be about £400 but at this price….meh
best synth on superbooth 2023 imho
