What’s worse is I was so ignorant for so long that I got sucked into actually BELIEVING a few of these myths myself. But today I’m going to explain why these myths aren’t true so that you can have a better understanding of this disease.

Just found your channel. :) I was diagnosed with endometriosis about 9 months ago after years of painful periods and chronic cramps and back pain even when I’m not on my period. I was always told it was normal to have painful periods and was dismissed by my mom, sisters, aunt, grandmother, and doctors. But once I turned 30 my gynecologist finally diagnosed me. Had the surgery 9 months ago and still experience chronic lower back pain and abdominal pain so waiting to see if it’s because of endometriosis or a spinal issue or gastrointestinal, or something else. Also get ovarian cysts and the vaginal ultrasound is not fun and my female doctor when I was 17 forced me to choose to get it or not get treatment even though I expressed the pain and discomfort of inserting something when I was not physically or mentally ready. I had not had sex yet and was definitely not comfortable with anything being inserted at that time. Missed two weeks of school due to the pain of the cysts and still regularly get them, but it seems (based on anecdotal evidence) like endometriosis symptoms are not taking seriously until about 30 and ovarian cysts are only taken seriously at a younger age. 🙃

Yup this is so true! I wasnt taken seriously or diagnosed until i was 35😣 and because i was undiagnosed for 18+ years i lost my ovary and am pretty much infertile its so upsetting. And make sure you talk to your doctor about your lower back pain. I had similar issues and when i had my surgery they found two fibroids in addition to cysts and endo. I do believe endo increases the risk of fibroids. So make sure you bring it up!
