Yep she had him hook line and stinker after a while and the respectful competitiveness later on mixed with flirting, both definitely seemed a little into each other.
Fun fact: This was based on a true story. Jerri Nielsen was a doctor stationed at the South Pole who discovered a lump in her breast right as the Antarctic winter set in. She consulted other doctors via satellite link and performed a biopsy on herself. The air force then dropped supplies for her to start doing chemo. She was eventually evacuated and went into remission, though sadly passed away ten years later.
Why couldn't she be evacuated right away? I know she had a contract and whatnot, but you'd think that potentially having cancer would be a legit excuse?
@@Arsaja It's not a matter of urgency. The planes simply can't land, take off again and get home. When the landing gear opens, the hydraulics freeze. Flying with the landing gear deployed creates drag and the plane can't reach New Zealand.

I guess it is not beacuse it couldn't happen in House lore, but because Mia Sorvino was single episode guest. And so they made it up like House saw her in love with other guy from South pole and quit.

The fact that she clearly scared him a little and the fact that they had great chemistry, i really wished they have developed this relationship a little more. Allow them to have a long distant friendship. She clearly is very smart and can read him well but at the same time doesn't seem to be put off by his abrupt nature. The fact that she is a shrink means she actually could have been good for him as in both a friend capacity and in a more than friend capacity. Missed opportunity.
Glad you enjoyed it, amazing series. My favorite episode by far is the one where the guy had 'the bends' on the airplane and the rest of the passengers had conversion disorder.
I really wish she came back in the series at some point. House seemed to genuinely like her. The ending of "I liked her and that caused me to miss something so I shouldn't ever like someone" was so disappointing.

This entire episode is basically what happened with Apollo 13. NASA had to work with the astronauts to figure out how to make a square air-filter over a circular tube, or else they'd die of carbon monoxide poisoning (iirc). And they could only do it using *exactly* what the astronauts had available, *plus* account for the fact they only X amount of tries to get it right.
Sorry, but that scene in Apollo 13 was made up. The engineers had figured out how to do that before any of the Apollos were launched. It was cinematic license to add drama.
The showrunners intended for her to be a recurring character, but then the 2007-2008 writers strike happened and the idea went away. Not sure if it was the writers strike that gave the episode the rather lame ending, with her cuddling the man who loved her, but staring at House or if that was the original intended ending.

I had interchanges with the sick doctor at the time while she was still at the South Pole; until this evening, I didn't know that a House episode was based on that situation.
One can realize in these chapters that, in principle, the writers had planned for Kurtner to be the next (or closest to the next) House. Not even Chase had that many good ideas often.
Kurtner is an amazing creative mind in the medical field, but Chase is definitely more House-like than anybody else. Even though the show liked to pin it on Foreman.
The writers never had any long-term plans for Kutner because they never had any long-term plans for Mr. White Castle himself, Kal Penn; they didn't know it was going to be a White House gig, but they knew he'd leave sooner rather than later. By contrast, Chase was the character originally conceived to be House's medical "partner-in-crime" and the only other attending physician in his department; it was only when they cast the much-younger Jesse Spencer in the role that they made him a fellow like Cameron and Foreman.
Such an awesome last line and she definitely is better for house the cuddy. She would constantly challenge him and not put up with his bs till he became a better man.
It’s too bad they can only talk through a computer screen. I bet they’d be good together, because she’s one of the rare people that can hold their own against House and he likes it!
Wait she was asked to x-ray her whole body; how did they miss the broken toe if they actually saw the x-ray? Did something occur that prevented her from getting the x-ray? Been a while since I've seen this episode
I didn't see the episode, but I gather that when she was undressed for the exam they are discussing in this clip, she kept her socks on. She probably also didn't X-ray her feet either, because everything they were considering/looking at was in her upper body, basically from her thighs upwards. It's only later when House realises the only part of her body he hasn't seen, are her feet, that it clicks.
Once again, the great Mira Sorvino proves why she was unjustly railroaded from the business, in spite of being a MONSTER talent. Not many people hold with "House", let alone believably take him on.
